Re: Redskins signing rookie class of 2009
You know, I really think Cody Glenn is going to be a player at this level. I don't think anyone else we drafted in the last two rounds is going to make much of an impact, but I think CG will stick.
|
Re: Redskins signing rookie class of 2009
^^ I don't, but I think Henson could be a great OLB and that some of the undrafted guys will do better than the drafted guys (excluding orakpo and barnes of course) like edwin Williams and jaison Williams
|
Re: Redskins signing rookie class of 2009
I dissagree GT, Henson looks like the impact player, but we'll soon find out.
|
Re: Redskins signing rookie class of 2009
I haven't really seen either so no clue. Haven't read a lot about them either. Are you guys going on their college days or have I been missing a good source for info?

I'm basing it on production, Henson's experience at LB, as well as his duribility I don't think he missed a game in college. Glenn seems like a raw project to me. |

He seems to be raw but someone with a good skill set. Probably a special teams guy this year. |
Re: Redskins signing rookie class of 2009
I think everyone of our picks is going to be a HOF player.

His resume makes him look like the best athlete of the group, though M. Mitchell sounds good too. Glenn might have the most upside, so I'd agree w/you in that he might eventually have the most impact. From what I read it sounds like he was a stretch or a bit of a gamble even in the 5th round. Gotta say this about Vinny; if he wants a player he picks him no matter what the majority of nfl scouts think & whoever else calls his picks a "reach." Rinehart, Kelly (lesser so), Brooks, Brennan & Glenn are some examples. If these guys pan out (maybe even Brooks, though somewhere else :( ) I think it boosts Vinny's stock tremendously. |
Re: Redskins signing rookie class of 2009
I'm looking forward to seeing Glenn play, hopefully he's not another Dallas Sartz...I remember Mitchell doing pretty good last year against the Terps in their bowl game
Lets just get Orakpo signed so he can be there for all of training camp |

Whats your reasoning about Glenn....gut feeling, or you know something I don't about him. Personally, I think he'll never see the field. |
Re: Redskins signing rookie class of 2009
can't speak for GT, but what sounds good about him is that he made a switch to LB from RB. He started & apparently played fairly well (haven't seen him either). the fact that he didn't play the position his entire college career could mean that he is still adjusting to it. Probably putting on more weight while trying to maintain speed. Thus, maybe he's on a learning curve that could pan out in a couple years.
Someone mentioned Dallas Sartz, but this pick reminds me of McCune. Remember how much the warpath loved him? Never played a down in the reg. season for us. |

Albright is one of few Redskins we can always depend on :)

Re: Redskins signing rookie class of 2009
Im really just anticipating the signing of Orakpo and Barnes.
|
Re: Redskins signing rookie class of 2009
Is anyone else excited about Marko Mitchell? I like his production and it seems that he has all of the measurables.

Mitchell a bit raw but he has a good size to speed combo. I am worried that he played against weak competion, but I think he can develope into a quality player. |

Late round players commonly get signed right around OTA's. I expect Barnes and Orakpo to sign at some point in mid to late July. Maybe a bit earlier for Barnes. |

Same here. He has potential. Can't wait to see him in the preseason. |
Re: Redskins signing rookie class of 2009
Lets hope we get more production from this years Rookie draft class than last season. We know Orakpo and Barnes should see the field this season but what other Rookie will surprises us like Chris Horton did last year? Maybe it will be one of the Rookie LBers we drafted since we don't have a for sure starting SLB as of yet.

Marko Mitchell has no shot at making the 53 man roster. he at best will be a practice squad player this season. Unless we have a injury in camp or they trade ARE. If we keep 5 WR it will be Moss, ARE, Thomas, Kelly, and Roydell Williams (Titans). Thats my educated guess. |
Re: Redskins signing rookie class of 2009
I can see Marko makin the team.

I tend to agree. He's a practice squad guy unless we keep 6 WR which I doubt will happen. |

It's going to be interesting. We saw last year that Vinny doesn't like cutting his draft picks so he may not cut him. I think unless Williams is terrible in camp he will earn the #5 spot and Mitchell will be a practice squad guy but you never know with VC. |
Re: Redskins signing rookie class of 2009
Keep signing players who won't even make the team!!!! Nice work
|
Re: Redskins signing rookie class of 2009
I think if Roydell Williams makes the team, it will be as a #2 or #3 receiver. I just don't see him as the type of guy to fit the #5 role that Thrash could. To me, the #5 WR isn't about being the worst or least experienced WR on the team. It's about a guy who you know can step in at a moment's notice at WR if needed, but most of his value is going to be on special teams. And not just as a returner, but as an all-around performer (blocking, tackling).
I've never thought of Roydell Williams as a special teams guy, maybe he is, I just haven't seen it. And we need to remember that with Khary Campbell and now Thrash we've lost arguably our two best special teamers. I'm more concerned about replacing those two guys in that capacity than at LB or WR. |

But, I think the 4 WR stuff that Zorn wants to run, to an extent, will require a player like Williams to run. Right now, the predominant theory is that our 4 WR sets will include 1) Moss, 2) Randle El, 3) Thomas, 4) Kelly, and 5) Cooley. But, I have to wonder if that's the best use of our personnel. These are pretty much all third or fourth down and 6+ yard situations, so maybe in this case, ARE should come off the field for a more reliable hands guy like Williams who has made a career of moving the chains. Additionally, what if someone is injured, and/or our young guys still can't lineup in the right place? There's nothing wrong with the four aforementioned players making our 4 WR set, but perhaps we should have a contingency plan in case one of them becomes injured or a weak link. Williams, could catch 20-25 balls for us as a *4th WR. Plus, since there are 10-12 in-season roster transactions for any team, he could be a guy who gets released if the guys in front of him all exceed expectations. No harm there. Again, I don't think we'd be rostering him instead of a special teams player. Last year, we went with 4 RB most of the season, with Shaun Alexander. This year, I think we'll go with 6 WRs instead. Of course, San Diego might be willing to trade Kassim Osgood for a late round pick. We've thrown picks at lesser needs before, so I'd only be moderately surprised if we did that. |

Yeah I said this awhile back (not to undermine what you're saying since we have more info now); he's this year's Anthony Mix it seems. Not to take anything away from him but we've just about guaranteed 4 of the WR spots and I can't see him taking the 5th. If he does, great. I just worry about what they said his weak spots are (running routes and was it reading the D? something else). |

And while it looks like Thomas SHOULD be the number 2, that's not set in stone by any means, nor Kelly at 4. |

I thought he had some nice glimpses on teams in games last year. But of course the hope (not yours of course since you hate DT :) ) is that Thomas will be the #2 or #3. Of course, we'll need 5 WRs when my boy Chase is running the spread offense! I think Hagans might just make the team |

Hate to break this to you, chief but at the moment your wide receiving corps has just as many question marks as ours. TO was head and shoulders above anyone on your current roster... |

Dallas knows they dont have any offensive weapons at the wr spot, thats why they are tryin to all wildcat
