Fathers Day Gifts
I know that Fathers day is a week away but my wife has this weakness that she can't wait until the day to give me my presents. So today I received my presents, I got a golf kit with a Redskins golf ball, some tee's and a Redskins towel. Also, I got the Redskins t-shirt with Hail to the Redskins lyrics on the back, pretty AWSOME!!! I figure we can say what the fathers get in this thread...

Re: Fathers Day Gifts
I also got mine early. New audio receiver installed in the car (my old one that came with the car - a 2001 Pontiac - had stopped playing CDs). This one's IPod compatible which is huge, now I plug it in and play whatever.
Love it. Next weekend I plan on getting outside on the grill with a beer in hand, maybe slow cook some babyback ribs, and watch the US Open. Can't beat that day! |
Re: Fathers Day Gifts
We got him some shirts as we celebrated his birthday and Father's Day early as he has to be in NC, on work business. He loved them.

Your wife gives you stuff on fathers day? Heck me and my wife don't even exchange gifts on our anniversary. This year all the fathers are going out fishing in my boat and we are having a cook out when we get home. |
Re: Fathers Day Gifts
Going on a steam train ride and picnic with the kids, then a cook out afterwards.

Re: Fathers Day Gifts
I asked for a wood bordered, glass case for my father’s flag. After 9 years I still have it in the plastic case that the cemetery gave me for it. Hopefully I get it.

Re: Fathers Day Gifts
"Happy Fathers Day" should suffice, no?

Exactly. Don't get me anything for Father's Day because a) I probably don't want it and b) I hate pretending to be happy about receiving it. Heat pump just went out (fried circuit board) so I'm cranky. |

It's from my kids, but being that they will not be bringing in income anytime soon being that my oldest is 8 and my youngest is 3, she buys the gifts and lets the kids give it to me. I do the same thing for her on mothers day. We don't do anything for our anniversary either. But we make sure that the kids have something to give for mothers day and fathers day. |

I received one from my mother-in-law for my grandfathers flag. Talk about disrespect, my aunt's and uncle's were going to throw it in the garbage when my grandma died. I saved it and framed it and put a picture of my grandfather in it. |

I agree I did not ask for my gifts, again like I said in a different post my wife and I do the whole mother's day, fathers day thing for the kids, to let them give us gifts. Yeah we buy them for each other but its for the kids to give to us. |
Re: Fathers Day Gifts
I'm not a father yet, but I'm getting some nice steaks and red wine and taking them to my Dad's house this Sunday. Should be fun. It will be low key. I'll probably get him a book, too. He's the most well read man I've ever met, so finding a good book for him is always an interesting challenge.

Well that makes perfect sense. I just hate buying gifts and my mother and father have everything they need or want. I find just making time to spend with them on mother's and father's day is all they really want. My mother was out of town for mothers day so we set a date leter this month for me to pick her up in the boat (they live on the water) and we will take a ride up to a nice returant on the water and have a nice lunch. Not sure what we will do for fathers day but I'm sure it will be something like a cookout with all the family. |
Re: Fathers Day Gifts
Just a thought - For the father's out there, the moment you are most proud of, enjoy the most, or otherwise caused you to say "Damn, it's great to be a dad!"
For me, it's just watching my son grow into a good young man. He's only six and, yes, he's whiny and petulant at times. But mostly, he is a good kid filled with kindness. His school reports said he is always helping others in his class. He practices random acts of kindness, often giving cherished toys to others b/c "they should be happy too". (Boy is smart too, in kindergarten reading on a 4th grade level, math at a 3rd grade level) I am damn proud of him and it makes me feel good to say "Yup, that's my boy!!" |

That is pretty low trying to down grade JoeRedskin's son's accomplishments. Dude is proud of his son. So what if your kid or neighbor's kid had the same thing written, be proud of them as well, this world needs a lot of good heart people. What you expect the teachers to write, that your kid could flew over the moon or something. |
Re: Fathers Day Gifts
If your dad is a Redskins fan, buy him the 3 DVD set from Barnes and Noble, "3 Greatest Games-Super Bowl Victories". For the first time, the original network broadcasts of three classic Washington Redskins games are available to own in this thrilling three DVD set. I just got mine a couple of days ago and I just LOVED it! My prayers were answered. I highly recommend this gift, we purchased it for about $26.00.

What the hell? That's crazy man. I never met my paternal grandfather and apparently he wasn't a very good man, but the family kept the flag and it was recently passed down to me by an uncle after my father's passing (my grandmother got his). |
Re: Fathers Day Gifts
my pop never hints or out right asks for anything but a month ago he pulled me aside and said he wants one of those golf caddie GPS systems. he said he wanted the "bushnell" and not the "skycaddie".
did some research and the bushnell and sky caddie (basic models) cost about the same but the bushnell requires a $40 yearly subscription so you can pull up the data on any golf course. the skycaddie doesnt have a yearly subscription fee but you are stuck with about 16,000 courses and if the course you play on isnt on there your out of luck. i think the bushnell you can upload the data on any course for $1 if it isnt in the yearly subscription. what to do? buy the skycaddie which sounds easier and probaly has most of the courses he plays or get the one he wanted despite my research pointing otherwise? ps he plays on a very established golf course team around the metro area so he plays different courses every saturday. leaning towards getting him the bushnell model. thats what the man wanted. go skins!! ps - for fathers day, my mom, dad, brothers, brothers family, neices, my friends who are dads are all going fishing around clarksburg then bbq. |

Little Seneca Lake at Black Hill Regional Park? Sweet place to go fishing. Oh, and get him the Bushnell. Or buy the Skycaddie, see if all the courses he wants are on there. If not, take it back and get the Bushnell. |

Don't want to get all "sarah palin" and get offended over nothing, but that was a pretty stupid and unneccessary response. And for the record JR, my report cards never said anything about playing well with or being nice to others. Pretty much the opposite... Good job. |

Seriously. Teachers don't make things up and write them on report cards make parents feel all warm and fuzzy. Cynical and uncalled for. I wonder if he thinks what was written on HIS kid's report card was BS. If so, that's funny and sad at the same time. Mocking this kind of thing on a Father's Day thread is low. |
Re: Fathers Day Gifts
Yeah well I guess Firstdown is to busy telling us all what is wrong with Obama adminstration or maybe he is at a "Tea Party" to come back to this thread and apologize for his rude comment.

Re: Fathers Day Gifts
I got my Dad a gift card for Best Buy. I've given him that same gift numerous times for Christmas, birthdays, etc., but I know he loves getting it. He's a gadget geek like myself and he's always got his eye on some sort of new toy. I usually give him that or some sort of food gift, like gourmet cookies or candy.

First, thanks for the comments all. Second, in terms of what was written in my son's report card, it was backed up by several independent comments from his teachers, the principal and separately from the parents of other kids. Finally, at this point, fd has been duly chastised and we can just drop it as far as I am concerned. But back to my original question (maybe it should be it's own thread) - For the Dad's out there: What was your "It's great to be a Dad" moment? |

Re: Fathers Day Gifts
Just wanted to brag my son (wife) got me Redskin Tags for MD. They just became availbale this year.

Re: Fathers Day Gifts
I got an Orakpo jersey, some Skins mesh shorts, a new wallet (my old one was beat to hell), and 4-5 Clint Eastwood movies (Dirty Harry, Hang 'em High, etc.) on DVD. Not a bad haul for the old-man :pimp:
P.S. Orakpo better not get hurt or suck this year |
Re: Fathers Day Gifts
Got my old man a book (Vince Flynn - The Third Option) and a polo shirt. He wanted a shopvac, which he ended up buying himself (present from Mom) on Saturday.
My wife and girls got me a new pair of Oakleys and a few new polo shirts. My parents gave me cash and a night of babysitting (which they always offer, but made it a point to offer knowing that my wife and I really need to get out without the kid) and my sister got me a nice frame picture of my youngest daughter and I together, and a gift card to Lids. |
