What is Portis' Motivation for This?
PFT has an article about Portis already cutting Zorn down this year:
ProFootballTalk.com - Portis Becoming A Major Problem For Zorn First of all I'm curious if anyone else heard about this alleged incident during OTAs? I certainly hadn't. But more importantly, to those of you who listen to the radio shows and whatnot, has Portis ever said specifically what his big issue w/ Zorn is? If it's limited to the times when Zorn went to the passing game or used Betts instead (while Portis was ailing) then I must say CP has to be one of the most juvenile personalities in the league. |
Re: What is Portis' Motivation for This?
Sort of already being discussed, but it's probably worth it's own thread.

Well, there wasn't a thread about it until now. I'm not a mod, but IMO Clinton's diva BS deserves it's own thread. |

Mike Florio regurgitating old stories about CP doesn't deserve its own thread (sorry Goat). I swear, I hope his f'ing website crashes. |
Re: What is Portis' Motivation for This?
So this story is old about clinton portis.. well shit I hope so.. cause we need him to have aye bigger year then he did last year.. I know he can be top rusher this year and just for 8 weekes.. man I hate to see him get traded cause real talk we need him

Re: What is Portis' Motivation for This?
Is there any REPUTABLE source that confirms this? ProFootballTalk.com is the sports equivalent of the "National Inquirer".

I would like to humbly suggest an addendum to the forum guidelines. You're not allowed to post anything referencing Pro Football Talk as the source.
I'm being entirely serious. That site is where just about every ridiculous unfounded rumor gets started. Then they spread around the internet like wildfire. I'd rather not see the Warpath be contributing to this in any way shape or form. Keep in mind Pro Football Talk generates revenue through site hits. Everytime you visit, it drives up their stats and makes them more valuable to advertisers. They'll throw these rumors out just to draw people to their site. They definitely know their stuff is bogus but they're doing it anyway to make a profit. I'm not saying the Warpath should launch a boycott or something like that, but I think it'd be cool if the Warpath put itself above absurd rumors and maintained site quality by insisting that we stick only to verified stuff, or insider info that certain members of the site (SS) may be privy to. |
Re: What is Portis' Motivation for This?
NBC recently has partnered up with PFT, I wonder how that will affect their bogus rumor mongering abilities?
|
Re: What is Portis' Motivation for This?
In the 90's the was a paper my roommate and would get for laughs - teh Worldwide Weekly. It was your typical grocery store aisle rag but was absolutely out there - "Aliens Ate My Dad's Head and Replaced it With a Watermelon" type stuff. They had photos, and sources, etc. but, essentially, as confirmed by one of their writers, they just sat around making up headlines and then writing stories based on them.
PFT = Football Equivalent of the Worldwide Weekly. (Sorry to hijack, but just couldn't resist this link - PALIN BAGS A BIGFOOT | Weekly World News) |

Doubt it will do much. PFT will continue to do what it always does. Take any and all rumors and post them without a filter. It's not too different from NBC's relationship with rotonation.com or rotoworld.com (whatever it's called). |
Re: What is Portis' Motivation for This?
My 2 cents, yeah CP can be a pain in the ass. It would be stupid to deny such at this point. But in the end the guy does go balls out on game day. Nobody can dispute that.
25 years ago, you could say the same exact thing about John Riggins. So he should be the last one to make any comments regarding Portis. It's like Danny Ferry, in his role as GM of the Cleveland Cavaliers, raising a stink about a draft pick holding out or a player refusing to honor a contract |

Yeah I definitely think it's hilarious that Riggo has called out CP for basically the same behavior he was infamous for. |

Question is how can we get linked up with a major news outlet? Guess we need more drama around here. |

The difference is Riggo actually won something. |

Along with one of the best offensive lines in NFL history, a hall of fame WR, a hall of fame CB, one of the best pairs of defensive ends in NFL history, and a Hall of fame coach in his prime and not bound by the current salary cap era player movements... |
Re: What is Portis' Motivation for This?
Furthermore, when it comes to being juvenile and hurting the team, riggo is no saint. He sat out an entire season b/c the skins didn't renegotiate his contract. After Gibbs went out and convinced him to come back along with the Player's Association rep, he showed no remorse. He simply said "I'm bored, I'm broke, and I'm back."
If that doesn't scream out selfish and ego-centric, i don't know what does... |
Re: What is Portis' Motivation for This?
I'm telling it's happening more and more these days. There's more and more hype, buzz and bullsh*t that you have to sift through to get to the truth and what's real. And that's not only in football, but in news and media overall (and even through people spreading rumors in regular conversation). But since football (and sports & entertainment) get a lot of attention, it tends to happen alot in football.
That's my social commentary for today and now I can get off of my soapbox. |
Re: What is Portis' Motivation for This?
Couple of points here:
OK, so John Riggins was not the ideal teammate except on Sundays. That makes him a tad hypocritical when he criticizes Clinton Portis. But, does it make him wrong? Even though you are paranoid someone may be out to get you. Even though he is a hypocrite, he may be absolutely correct... PFT signed a deal with NBC recently that carried enough money with it so that Mike Florio can quit his "day job" as a labor lawyer. That's right; he's an attorney and the deal he signed with NBC is big enough that he can "retire" from that job and forego that income. Somebody somewhere must think he knows what he is doing... |

So I'm not sure that Florio is necessarily quitting his "day job" because he's got bundles of cash coming his way from this agreement. |

Either way, see what I'm saying about sifting through the BS before taking anything you read or hear as truth. |

Yes, they do - NBC thinks that Florio knows how to get eyeballs on his site by walking the fine line between pure BS and some truth when it comes to feeding the ravenous information hunger of football fans. Does that mean they think he knows football? Doubt it... Since when has knowledge been a prerequisite for entertainment value? |

I don't ever recall Riggins being disrespectful to coaches. A pain the ass sometimes? Yep. Not having any respect for authority? I don't ever remember that. Zorn is on a short leash and CP knows it. |

I agree, CP knows he works for DS (not Zorn as it should be) and DS will back him no matter what. |

The bottom line is Riggo is a super bowl champion, hall of famer and the guy who made maybe the biggest play in Redskin history. CP has played in 4 playoff games with a grand total of 214 yds and 0 TDs. I have no problem with Riggo being critical of CP. |

Yeah for someone who "doesn't give a shit" he sure seems to go out of his way explaining himself.
Florio = the Perez Hilton of the NFL. |

I think both Riggins and CP march to the beat of their own drummer and speak their mind, no matter who's listening (or not listening). |
Re: What is Portis' Motivation for This?
I found this to be a tad ironic:

Len Pasquarelli - Florio often alleges that Pasquarelli, a senior ESPN.com writer, defends players represented by certain agents by writing overly positive articles in an effort to help out the player and thus the agent. Florio claims that Pasquarelli does this to keep on the agents' good side so that the agents will continue to supply Pasquarelli with inside information. PFT often refers to Pasquarelli as "Pastabelly"[3] and "Don Vito". PFT has also alleged that Pasquarelli has a bias against the Washington Redskins, writing columns that have criticized the organization, the death of Sean Taylor, the second retirement of Hall of Fame coach Joe Gibbs, and owner Daniel Snyder. He later admitted that his attacks were "in the early days when we we're trying to get noticed."[4]

|

I agree that they both march to the beat of their own drummer however I dont think Riggio cared if anyone was listening. IMO, CP does his silliness because he's so insecure that he craves attention. CP would be very upset if the media ignored his antics. |
