Re: Redskins Best Ever Defensive Tackle
Butz
|
Re: Redskins Best Ever Defensive Tackle
Dave Butz. Without a doubt.
|
Re: Redskins Best Ever Defensive Tackle
W/out question Butz. Butz was sort of ahead of his time. A 6'5 and 300 lbs DT was unheard of in the 70's.
|
Re: Redskins Best Ever Defensive Tackle
Butz. He freed up the Ends allowing them to make plays
|
Re: Redskins Best Ever Defensive Tackle
Dave Butz. No ifs, and, or Butz about it.
|
Re: Redskins Best Ever Defensive Tackle
Butz, and he should be in consideration for the HoF. He was completely underrated.
|
Re: Redskins Best Ever Defensive Tackle
Butz ate guards and centers for breakfest, dinner and lunch - and then had the running backs as a midnight snack. One of the best players not known beyond the beltway.
|
Re: Redskins Best Ever Defensive Tackle
THAT was an easy survey!
|
Re: Redskins Best Ever Defensive Tackle
Dave Butz was the best !!! He dominated the line of scrimmage and freed up the DE (s) and the LB (s).
|
Re: Redskins Best Ever Defensive Tackle
Can someone give me a more modern equivalent for Dave Butz? Like who most resembles Butz from the last nine years?
|
Re: Redskins Best Ever Defensive Tackle
La'Roi Glover? Someone with a better historical perspective help me.
|
Re: Redskins Best Ever Defensive Tackle
Kris Jenkins, when he is playing well, might not be a bad current-day parallel for Butz.
|
Re: Redskins Best Ever Defensive Tackle
I'm sorry, but Cornelius Griffin doesn't belong in the running here.
Butz all the way. |
Re: Redskins Best Ever Defensive Tackle
Butz, but I must say Darryl Grant was also a beast.
|

Grant had alot of heart. One of my favorite players. |
Re: Redskins Best Ever Defensive Tackle
Since a team neeeds two DTs, I would pick Butz at #1 by a wide margin over Diron Talbert at #2.
Daryl Grant played with great hustle and energy but was not in the same class as Butz or Talbert. Cornelius Griffin cannot even be in this discussion... |

I'll never forget the beautiful sight of Grant scoring against Dallas in the playoffs. Take that Danny White! |

Re: Redskins Best Ever Defensive Tackle
Griffin ?? Come on now .. let's not make these list toooooooo easy to make .... BUTZ all the way, side note :: best name ever (close 2nd rock cartwright)
|
Re: Redskins Best Ever Defensive Tackle
P.S. .... hopefully #92 Albert Haynesworth makes the list in the near future !!
|
Re: Redskins Best Ever Defensive Tackle
Butz
yes,without doubt! |

...............who? |
Re: Redskins Best Ever Defensive Tackle
No brainer...DAVE BUTZ. That dude was a man amongst boys. Totally dominant. I hope Albert Haynesworth is that type of player for the Skins. If so, the Skins defense will be the best in the league.
|
Re: Redskins Best Ever Defensive Tackle
I already voted for Butz and think Talbert is the clear number 2. I am not getting the C. Griffin hate going on though. No, he is not in the Butz, Talbert class but he is certainly up there with D. Grant in competition for the 3rd spot. Who else would you put at 4 besides Griffin?
Griff has had his injury problems true enough. But he has been a solid producer for us -- he strikes me as one of those guys who can generally beat his own guy but struggles when doubled. I may be wrong, having not studied the tape, just going on what I think I have seen. If true, he and Haynesworth may be the best tackle tandem we have had since Butz, Grant. |
Re: Redskins Best Ever Defensive Tackle
I agree Griff deserves a mention.
|
Re: Redskins Best Ever Defensive Tackle
I'd have to go with Butz too
He's not top 4, but I've always felt Tim Johnson was underrated during his time here |
Re: Redskins Best Ever Defensive Tackle
For one year wonders how about Sean Gilbert and Daryl Gardener?
|

. . . and his helmut showed that no one battled more intensively at the line of scrimmage than he did. That helmut deserves its own place in the HOF. |
Re: Redskins Best Ever Defensive Tackle
Butz with Hayneworth taking second
|
I agree Griff deserves a mention.
It's not hate for Griffin. He's a good player, no doubt. But to be in the running for the best defensive tackle in the history of the Washington Redskins? Not a chance in hell. |

perhaps Tony Siragusa (Ravens) my vote is Butz as well...6'7" and well over 300. he just caved in the opposing OL... |
Re: Redskins Best Ever Defensive Tackle
I was thinking Haynesworth may be the closest DT we've had to Butz. Butz could do it all, including sacking the QB. If AH can have the impact Butz had, I'll be one happy camper.
|
Re: Redskins Best Ever Defensive Tackle
I like Dave Butz and I cannot lie, other fans cannot deny...Sorry I got carried away.
|
Re: Redskins Best Ever Defensive Tackle
Dave Butz was a Warren Sapp and the man played forever. Truly a 'Skin Hall of Famer and with Diron Talbert a close second.
|
Dave Butz was a Warren Sapp and the man played forever. Truly a 'Skin Hall of Famer and with Diron Talbert a close second.
Correction: Warren Sapp was a Dave Butz. Butz was the first huge DT in football and the one to set the standard to today's DT's. When George Allen got him from the Cards it was huge. |
Re: Redskins Best Ever Defensive Tackle
Butz.
|
For one year wonders how about Sean Gilbert and Daryl Gardener?
I was also going to mention Daryl Gardener who came from the Dolphins. He was a beast for the season we had him. He was playing for a new contract but he had some back issues. Denver signed him after the 1 monster season and he never played for them cause his back was injured again. We did do something smart by not resigning him for big money. |
