how stupid is this?

Just saw a commercial for SportsCenter, the question was asked, has the game passed Gibbs by? After 3 games we're hearing this crap? Lordy

Redskins_P 09-28-2004 05:43 PM

Matty, get used to it........

Winskins 09-28-2004 05:51 PM

Haha Matty...refs do suck

Winskins 09-28-2004 05:52 PM

Oh, by the way, people not from Washington are going to run their mouths a lot until we start winning, but I think that everyone here at the WP knows what the real deal is

MTK 09-28-2004 05:56 PM

Someone on around the horn said the Skins aren't going to win this year. The reason? The defense. That's when I changed the channel.

Yeah I know, I don't know why I was watching that retarded show, it was just on in the background.

GoSkins! 09-28-2004 05:58 PM

Yeah, I'm sure that's it. I guess that the game passed Dicky V by when he lost those games the first year in St.Louis.... How can anybody lose 2 of thier first three games and still have something? What was Philly's record at this time last year????

GoSkins! 09-28-2004 06:01 PM

Look at the schedule. Even playing like they are now I see them winning 9 games this season. But does anyone really beleive that they are at thier full potential?

SmootSmack 09-28-2004 06:04 PM

Matty I did the same thing with ATH. Turned it on to see, just out of curiosity, what the "experts" had to say. When Dallas' very own Tim Cowlishaw said the Redskins were the 4th best team in the division because "they have no defense" I just had to laugh. I mean what else can you do about so stupid a comment?

memphisskin 09-28-2004 06:17 PM

No defense but currently ranked 3rd? No defense but only giving up 47 yards rushing per game?

I don't think those numbers will hold, although I hope they do, but to say we don't have any defense is ludicrous. The numbers don't lie!

NM Redskin 09-28-2004 06:17 PM

You guys should avoid NFL live today, more of the same, bash Gibbs, then they cover there asses by saying "Oh but he's gonna be great". Too me, ESPN has gotten allot more about entertainment and allot less about actual analysis of sports.

Daseal 09-28-2004 06:24 PM

Wilbon and Kornheiser both said that Gibbs gets a free pass in DC for quite some time and that there are places that Gibbs should be criticized. I don't think he'll do bad as a coach, but let's turn this situation again. Imagine Gibbs never came out of retirement and Spurrier was here. What exactly would be your comments today?

MTK 09-28-2004 06:34 PM

I don't think anyone has held back criticizing Gibbs today, daseal.

Clock management was poor and the goal line calls could have been better. What more can we say?

If Spurrier was still here the criticism would be much worse today because he would be in year 3 and he would be out of excuses.

Gibbs has 3 games under his belt after 12 years away from the game. And yes those 3 Super Bowl trophies are going to buy him time to get things going again.

As big as our expectations are as Skins fans, I think we're equally as patient when it comes to giving Gibbs time to make this work. Why should we doubt the guy??

SmootSmack 09-28-2004 06:43 PM

Gibbs has proven he can win in this league because he has, Spurrier has yet to prove anything in the NFL. That's why he gets a bit more of a longer leash.

But this isn't about Spurrier, Marty, Norv, etc. it's about Gibbs. And I think we all pretty much agree that Gibbs made some very poor decisions yesterday.

BossHog 09-28-2004 07:36 PM

If we keep believing in ourselves and keep improving, we won't be denied. Four games remaining in the division...

Gmanc711 09-28-2004 07:43 PM

If we can come back and Beat NYG and Dallas next time around and can beat Philly once, I'll be very happy.

Bozzy 09-28-2004 09:56 PM

Yes Gibbs deserves as much time as he needs to get this done. And he'll get it.

Snyder won't fire Gibbs, and Gibbs won't quit like Spurrier did. They're both better than that.

SUNRA 09-28-2004 10:14 PM

Our next division game is 7 weeks from now. The team can meet philly with a 7-2 record. Now I think we can win the next six games. The defense is going to continue to get better and the hopefully Brunell will stay healthy enough to play against philly.

That Guy 09-28-2004 10:24 PM

the crowd was still cheering loudly with 7 minutes left and 11 points down... NY would have been booing loudly by then.

BIGREDSKINFAN63 09-29-2004 04:11 AM

on espn news yesterday, john clayton of all people defended gibbs and said that the difference between gibbs and past redskins coaches was that gibbs has a system in place to fix these type of problems, where coaches of the past would not.why do'nt some of these genisues ask other coaches like, jon gruden,or bill parcels if they think the game has passed gibbs and the skins coaching staff by?the media needs to smell what they are shoveling.

Gmanc711 09-29-2004 06:55 AM

If we win on Sunday... this all goes away. If we win big, all everyone will talk about is how great Gibbs is, just like after Tampa. The media sucks ( of course I wanna get into that area, haha).

MTK 09-29-2004 08:17 AM

It's hilarious how quickly the media is jumping on the 'the game has passed him by' bandwagon. After just 3 games?? C'mon, it's just ridiculous.

Redskins_P 09-29-2004 09:11 AM

Gibbs was the first to admit it also.

Hey, $hit happens man......even to Gibbs. He's not perfect, and he does have a little bit of rust. He was out of the game for 12 freaking years!

SkinsRock 09-29-2004 11:18 AM

The media is so f@#king fickle. If that last pass was half a yard closer to the sideline and Gardner is able to fall out of bounds, we kick the FG, and are able to win it in OT, the same critics would be praising him for overcoming the bad calls and the time management errors. Whatever....

MTK 09-29-2004 11:44 AM

A couple of wins and the same people that are questioning him now will be all on his jock.

One can go from goat to god, and vice versa, in a flash with the media, it's pathetic.

JWsleep 09-29-2004 11:51 AM

Yawn. These guys write their stories before the season begins: if the skins are 1-2, run the "Gibbs has lost it story"; if they're 2-1, run the "Gibbs is God" story; etc. Whatever. Gotta be a bit more thick skined here. This is the era of 24 hour sports television. They gotta do something to fill the air time, and this is a logical and popular story. Get used to it.

Instead, just focus on what Gibbs HIMSELF says. He's probably his own toughest critic, and the most honest. Patience and perserverence, boys and girls. It will come!

As for the schedule, it's one game at a time. THere are no gimmes in the NFL.

Skins1573 09-29-2004 12:47 PM

Yes the media sucks, but dallas fags/fans suck worse. just had to say that, but back to the subject you know we could be 3-0 and also be 0-3. The way we have been playing (defense) this year and the roster we have players/coaches everyone would have to agree our team should be more like 3-0. Costly turnovers and a slow start for the offense is at fault sometimes, but it's really hard for an offense to get in a routine when you have crusing blows from the Fu*%ing Refs. I always think that even when we have bad calls from the refs, sholdn't be an excuse if we loose the ball game, but when you get calls that are so big that there is no way they should have missed it and it takes points away form you and gives points to the other team. the team will not have time left in a game to get things going as the Redskins did at the end and came in reach of a great come back. Oh and there is No way in hell that garder could have gone out of bounds after dallas saftey came and helped out the cb.

SkinsRock 09-29-2004 01:43 PM
Oh and there is No way in hell that garder could have gone out of bounds after dallas saftey came and helped out the cb.
I wasn't saying he could have.....just that hypothetically, if he had and we found a way to win it, the same people who are criticizing Gibbs would be praising him....

memphisskin 09-29-2004 02:39 PM

Will Waltrip be asking the same thing in five years when Gibbs comes back to NASCAR?

To start second-guessing the guy after three weeks is a bit early isn't it? I mean Snyder even gave Norv Turner four weeks before he chewed his butt off after the Dallas loss.

Gibbs will right the ship, maybe even this week.
