The President, a police officer, and a harvard professor walk into a bar...

or the white house actually.

yeah, Obama put his foot in his mouth. Only 4,999,999 more times to go if he wants to catch W. Fudd.

I think it shows that Obama is willing to think outside the box and do things out of the ordinary. It also reminds me of King Ralph when John Goodman has a beer with the King of Zambezi.

Did you see the pic on CNN they each have like a ten ounce beer. So funny!

CNN also says Gates switched from Red Stripe to Samuel Adams Light...and give it to good old Joe Biden to drink Buckler...

While a logistical nightmare, this would have been better to be conducted at one of the local bars...

Pretty funny that so much was made over what they would drink. I mean really, who the F cares.

By the way folks I plan on drinking a few selections from the mixed case I picked up from the Cooperstown Brewery tonight, just in case you were keeping track.

I came across this gem earlier today. I am having some Krystal Weisen delivered to my brothers house in VA.

I like how on the Today Show this morning, Chuck Todd (I think it was him) said Joe Biden was a last minute invite "to bring racial balance"

Obama: Hey Joe, you got any plans for tonight?
Joe: Well, I was thinking of going to see The Hangover
Obama: Cancel it, I need another white guy for tonight

I predicted that was going to happen, sure enough.

Actually, that was probably the issue that intrigued me most about this otherwise silly meeting. Kudos to Crowley and Gates for actually choosing to drink beer at a beer summit; Obama's Bud Light is pretty much indistinguishable from Biden's Buckler.

The amount of coverage this has recieved is seriously ridiculous. As much as the media HATED bush, they sure as hell love them some Obama. I'm just waiting for MSNBC to report something along the lines of "Obama takes piss, puts out forest fire."

I agree. This silly meeting was only interesting from the standpoint of what they actually drank. If they had seriously thrown down I would have an improved opinion of all them.

Buckler? Seriously Joe? Buckler? He doesn't strike me as a teetotaler.

Re: The President, a police officer, and a harvard professor walk into a bar...

I'm really surprised, well, not really surprised, that what Obama did didn't get more scrutiny on here.
1- The professor was DEAD wrong for not showing his ID.
2- He was rightfully taken in by a police officer doing his job.
3- Obama decides to make this national news by losing his composure and speaking about it. Seriously folks, there are ACTUAL racist things going on in america.
4- He then invites them to the white house, where he should have apologized to the cop and told his friend the professor to shut up.
5- He SHOULD have spoken out about the 911 operator that has been harassed ever since doing her job, but that poor girl has been racially profiled and blasted publicly.

Of course, none of this really matters cause Obama seems to do no wrong with people here. I'll say it, since others appear to be afraid to (minus a few)...He has done a horrible job as president thus far, and these kinds of things will continue to happen cause while he has a calm eloquent way about him, he has no substance, or experience and should have never been voted in.
Funny how a non racial issue became a racial issue with the cop / professor due to someone "claiming" racism, but the ACTUAL racism issue was how the the 911 operator was treated and no one said a word. (relatively speaking)

I don't know about you guys, but having someone that can lose his emotions and composure enough to speak out about this when he has no leg to stand on makes me nervous about his leadership skills.
Say what you want about Bush, but at least he had balls and knew what to stand up for.

I hear Gates and Crowley might go to a Red Sox game together. That'd be pretty cool if it happens.

Really? I don't think that would be cool. I think it would be the continuation of a dumb charade. I'm pretty sure Gates and Crowley aren't exactly pals. I mean, maybe they now have a mutual respect, maybe, but I doubt it goes any further than that. This situation should just go away.

I don't think they are pals either, but neither do I don't think it's a dumb charade unless the media turns it into a circus. Otherwise I see no problem with it.

If they're not friends and they plan on going to a baseball game together, how is that not a charade? The media (and Obama) has already turned this into a circus. That's why I said this situation needs to just go away.

Plus, if they're in the stands together, that will open the door for any fan with an opinion (and alcohol) to shout stuff at them. I think it is without question a charade, and a bad idea as well, IMO.

Well maybe you and I think it needs to go away or that it's a bad idea, but who else feels that way? I mean, serious question. Look, race and race relations is a complicated thing. We tend to learn incident by incident. Just because this thing started out messy, which it did, doesn't mean that now Gates and Crowley can't act like grown ups going forward. Some people just might be watching to see if that's even possible. I think those who look for the negative will find it. (not talking about you, by the way) And those that are hoping for a positive outcome, will look for it.

Personally, I could care less if they went to a baseball game or Hooters. I think it's "cool" that they've moved on.

I pretty much agree, my only contension is that I don't think them going to a Sox game would be cool, and that it's a charade. Them pretending to be pals and attending a baseball game together does nothing for race relations IMO. The fact that a Harvard Professor and a police seargant are acting like grown ups and moving on shouldn't be praised, it should be expected. They don't need to parade around in public to move forward.

Hmm...I can see where you're coming from. If it was something more private, say, at one of their respective homes it would come off as being less pretentious. I definitely see your point though.

I don't follow current events, so let me see if I understand this correctly...

The police arrest the professor at his house, after a break-in. Obama must have said something along the lines of race regarding the incident. Now he's having them over for beers to set it straight? Sounds pretty cool to me.

Not quite, the professor was the one lurking around his own house cause he forgot his keys or something...it was dark and when the police came he REFUSED to show ID. There was NOTHING racist about this incident other than how the white 911 operator was treated.

I didn't say there was anything racist about it -- just that Obama must have said something along the lines of race. Then, he had them over for beers to settle it? I think that's cool. Give the guy a break (Obama, the professor and the cops), people make mistakes.

Obama was at a press'r when asked about the guy gettin arrested. After Obama said he knew nothing about the facts he then called the police stupid. The professor was locked out of his house and used a crow bar to pry open the door. Someone saw this going on and called the cops. The cop showed up to the house to find two men in the house. He asked for them to step out side and thats when the professor got an attitude and refused to step out side or show any ID. The cop then got an attitude and arrested the man and then the whole profiling thing came up. The police dropped the charges and the whole thing was starting to settle down until the President opened his big mouth. About a week later they all met at the whitehouse for a few beers. It seems that the professer and cop made good with each other and they may even go to a ball game in the near future. Anytime your behind on the news just ask me and I'll give you the facts fair and balanced.
