Re: Orakpo signs
Well, now I am excited.
|
Re: Orakpo signs
Cool. Everyone signed and ready to go. I'm interested in what the numbers are.
|
Re: Orakpo signs
Good , hope he " cleans some clocks " this year :)
|
Re: Orakpo signs
My guess is about 33 million.
|
Re: Orakpo signs
I'm sort of surprised this was even an issue that might have worried people? This wasn't going to be a drawn out process.
|
Re: Orakpo signs
5 yr deal

My concern was that with other higher picks' deals taking so long, that this was going to delay a signing. I'm glad this is over and done with and that the team can now focus solely on training camp. |
Re: Orakpo signs
Oh, it's ON!
|
Re: Orakpo signs
Nice...our last excuse is eliminated.
We have a team headed into their 2nd year in the same system. Time to show 'em what you got. Hail to the Redskins! |
Re: Orakpo signs
yes!!! I heard DS talking on 980 today about how he said they were real close last night and he hopes rakpo will sign soon.
|
Re: Orakpo signs
Brilliant!

Re: Orakpo signs
Thus begins the rule of Edgar Allen Orakpo.

Yeah I think there was some genuine reason to be a little concerned. The top picks have been coming in slowly. I really didn't expect this to go more than a few days but you never know. Good to have him signed and delivered. |
Re: Orakpo signs
Crazy, you can watch for updates all day. Go to get ready for bed and he signs. With my luck I will be getting a beer when Cooley catches the winning pass in the Superbowl! :)
Great news GO SKINS! |
Orakpo is expected to join the team at training camp on Friday. He also celebrates his 23rd birthday on Friday.
|
Re: Orakpo signs
Im psyched cause Blatche was raving about how Wilson was looking. Now we have Rak coming in. Im already laughing at the national media.
|
Re: Orakpo signs
As long as he puts up 8-12 sacks a year i dont care what he makes..
|
Re: Orakpo signs
Glad he finally got that big bed!
|
Re: Orakpo signs
Great news!

Re: Orakpo signs
Adam Schefter via Twitter is saying 5 years, $20M, $12.1M guaranteed.

Curious as to where you got this number? Just random guess based on gut feel? Samsonite! I was way off! $33 million for the 13th pick in the draft would have been an incredible job by the agent. That's more like top 10 money. |

That's a very reasonalbe deal if he becomes a starter, which he'd better! Of course if he has a couple double digit sack years early in the deal, say by year 3, his agent will start talking to the danny. |

Re: Orakpo signs (5 yr, $20M, $12.1M guaranteed)
As the 13th pick last year, Jonathan Stewart (RB, Panthers) signed a 5 year $14million contract.
Derrick Harvey was the 8th pick last year, and second DE taken. He signed a 5 year, $23.8million contract. $17million guaranteed. |
Re: Orakpo signs (5 yr, $20M, $12.1M guaranteed)
Not a bad deal. The best part about it is, Orakpo wasn't out long enough to get on the nerves of Greg Blache. The deal actually is a pretty good one. Orakpo seems almost destined for OLB. Likely in an Arrington type role, up on the line on third down passing situations. Will be interesting to watch tape from training camp and see how he progresses at LB throughout the weeks.
|
Re: Orakpo signs (5 yr, $20M, $12.1M guaranteed)
The fact that Blache is teaching him to play OLB says a great deal about his versatility. He will be able to line up as an end and drop into coverage when we run the zone blitz with Landry coming in to deck the opposing QB as well as moving around to the LB position during shifts which will most likely be called my L. Fletcher. Very exciting player to watch develop!

Re: Orakpo signs (5 yr, $20M, $12.1M guaranteed)
Jonathan Stewart also signed a 5 year deal worth 20 mil with 10.8 guaranteed. He was last year's 13th pick

Re: Orakpo signs (5 yr, $20M, $12.1M guaranteed)
Oh Happy Day!
Time for us to have the #1 defense! |

thats a good deal right there. unless there is a bonafide stud in the top 5 at a position of desperate need for us i do not want to be picking and paying for a top 5 draft pick. i.e. lions who have been screwed by joey harrington, mike williams, and that wr rodgers (who i really liked and just don understand what happened to him). we get orakpo at 5 yrs 20 mil who could just as easily be as good as tyson jackson who is going to get (im guessin) around 35 - 40 mil for 5 yrs. go skins!! |
Re: Orakpo signs (5 yr, $20M, $12.1M guaranteed)
If he makes a smooth transition to SAM LB, our defense is going to be stellar!!! There's no doubt that he will pressure the QB when given the opportunity to rush. A happy day indeed!

Re: Orakpo signs (5 yr, $20M, $12.1M guaranteed)
what does SAM linebacker stand for?
is terrell suggs considered a SAM? is it another term for strong side linebacker? go skins!! |

I know it might evoke some negative reaction, but even our very own 50-50, Rod Gardener, was a decent value pick at 16 I think. He wasn't a star but a good 2 reciever for a few years. He got paid decently but didn't jeopardize the cap like top 10 picks do. If you pick in the top 10 & the player can't even start for you, you get stuck in the cycle of hoping the next top 5 or 10 pick you have pans out. in the meantime, those guys eat up cap space & $. |
