Settle these 3 races, Brennan or Daniel, Thomas or Kelly, Mason or Cartwright?
If it were up to you, who would you send packing in these three matchups and why? Granted, neither Thomas nor Kelly are in danger of being out of a job, so in their case, pick one as your starter for #3 receiver. I don't envy the people who have to make the call.

Re: Settle these 3 races, Brennan or Daniel, Thomas or Kelly, Mason or Cartwright?
I would have to go with Colt as the 3rd QB unless his injury causes him to miss so time he could placed on IR. If he is healthy we keep Colt and Daniels on practice squad. The big shock would be to let Todd Collins go and keep to unproven young QB's. Collins has not been unimpressive thus far in preseason. The WR positions goes ( 1. Moss 2. Thomas
3. ARE 4. Kelly 5. Mitchell. The RB battle is shakey because i dont like Betts to back up Portis. Betts had the 1 big year and got his money thus far no product as a change of pace back. With that said i like ( 1. Portis 2.Mason 3. Rock 4. Alridge) Rock can still play special teams. Alridge and Mason are cheap with Betts gone. Alridge has speed and we need speed on the offense. |
Re: Settle these 3 races, Brennan or Daniel, Thomas or Kelly, Mason or Cartwright?
Brennan for QB.
Mason for RB. WR is so tough between Malcom & Devin.... maybe theyll rotate until someone steps up. I think its gonna be Malcom. |

Re: Settle these 3 races, Brennan or Daniel, Thomas or Kelly, Mason or Cartwright?
Im gonna go......
Colt over Chase, both have average arms at best, but IMO Colt sealed the deal with his performance last game. He wasnt taking the chances he had been earlier in preseason, and managed the game pretty well. Daniel had a rough time, mostly because the Oline was getting ripped, but he did finish strong. Tight race, and although neither is ready for real NFL snaps, I think Colt is a little more polished at this point. Id love to see Chase on the practice squad but I dont think he will make it there. Kelly over Thomas by the slightest edge, but I want to see plenty of both come gametime. ARE looks like he has found a home in the slot, and we should go shotgun with 4 wideouts alot this year. Thomas looked good on KR, so Id like to see him there as well. For RB I can see this playing out several different ways. My thinking is it will end up Portis, Betts, Rock, and either Mason/Alridge. I do like Mason, but I feel like Alridge could finally give us the change of pace that we need. I wouldnt mind seeing Mason instead of Betts, but it isnt gonna happen. Either way, we really need to address running back in the near future. |
Re: Settle these 3 races, Brennan or Daniel, Thomas or Kelly, Mason or Cartwright?
Daniel
Kelly Mason Kelly has been looking great, but THomas is looking good as well. They both have done a 100% turnaround since last season. Mason is running the ball hard, and looks even more impressive then Betts does. I also went with Daniel, because I think he's way more teachable then Brennan, and from what I hear he already has most of the playbook down. |
Re: Settle these 3 races, Brennan or Daniel, Thomas or Kelly, Mason or Cartwright?
Kelly is the easy choice over thomas, I think Colt gets the slight edge over Daniel and in Mason over Rock I chose Betts.....I am glad I am not the only one who thinks so but I don't think betts is worth the money and should be gone that way Rock can anchor our special teams and return kicks and back up Portis some and we can develop mason.

Larry Weisman's Twitter says that Brennan IS going to IR. I know it's been talked about, but I didn't really expect that.

Re: Settle these 3 races, Brennan or Daniel, Thomas or Kelly, Mason or Cartwright?
Brennen. just because he has a year in the system. talent wise, they are pretty close
Kelly. but hoping Thomas can make an impact Cartwright. just brings more to the team, overall. |
Re: Settle these 3 races, Brennan or Daniel, Thomas or Kelly, Mason or Cartwright?
Daniel, since Brennan's on IR
Kelly is our 2nd WR Mason is better than Cartwright. Look I love Rock Cartwright, sure he's a good ST, and Team leader/Captain, but on the playing field, when was the last time he returned a kick for a TD...I would say 3 years ago against Dallas is the last one I remember. I still remember when we put him in at RB against Kansas City, we lost the game, because he got stripped and they ran it in for a TD. |
Re: Settle these 3 races, Brennan or Daniel, Thomas or Kelly, Mason or Cartwright?
QB: Colt easily cause he's knows more of the offense, but I think Chase handled himself better. Colt going to IR solves this problem.
WR: Kelly has stepped up and actually looks better then Thomas. To be honest Mitchell is looking better then Thomas to me, but Thomas should know more of the offense at this point. Mitchell runs great routes and catches everything thrown his way. My take; Moss, Kelly, ARE, Mitchell, Thomas (and use him for KR duties, both KR/PR). RB: Portis is entrenched. The team is resigned to use Betts on 3rd down even though I think Betts is great at pass blocking on 3rd down and catching out of the back field, he sucks as a RB in short yardage when the line is stacked. I think D.Smith is going to put up a good arguement to keep Rock. Which will make it; Portis, Betts, Rock, and either Alridge or Dorsey or both if one goes to PS. My personal pick: Portis, Mason, Alridge and Dorsey. This gives us the vet in Portis, our future in Mason, and two change of pace backs who are young and have a lot ot offer. |

Kelly Mason If I was calling the shots that's how it would be. |

Now that would surprise me. I think both played well enough to show 3rd string/developmental quality. At the same time, the team may not think either will ever develop into a starter that would garner trade bait (My best case scenario had JC becoming a probowler with Colt/Chase flashing starter ability in a year or two, then pulling a Matt Shaub/Matt Cassel type deal for them). If we actually needed an emergency QB, ARE could play and while VC and crew burned up the lines to find an experienced vet to fill in for a longer time if necessary. Frankly, if our season comes down to the play of the 3rd string QB, we are already cooked. The team might be thinking that they want to keep the 53rd slot for another position player or ST guy. Quite frankly, if true, I think it is good news for the Mason Maniacs. |

RB definitely comes to mind, and maybe LB |

Well, the 3rd string QB hardly does anything but learn the offense and look good in uniform except being an insurance policy. That said Mort is an idiot. Colts on IR, which means Chase will be 3rd. |

Re: Settle these 3 races, Brennan or Daniel, Thomas or Kelly, Mason or Cartwright?
Damn shame. I liked the guy. He seemed to understand one the most basic man rules of life: "A man's got to know his limitations". He worked hard to make the most of his limitations and to minimize them.
Ultimately, I think his lack of height hurt him - I don't know what he's listed at but, if his is much over 5'10", I would be surprised. In order to succeed as a QB at 5' 10", he needed a rocket arm and incredible (x-ray even) vision. If he was a solid 6' 1", I think he could have gone far as I think he had good intangibles for the position. Too bad. I wish him the best. |

True. :) I never said I wasn't, but it takes one to know one. LOL. Ok, so it's confirmed. The team is going to try to keep Chase as a PS member. Nothing shocking there, I think we all could have predicted that. Is there anyway possible Colt could come off the IR in like 4-6 wks and be our #3 or is he automatically out for the yr? If not then I guess the team is just trying to juggle all the decent talent. |

Yes. That is why I am surprised that they didn't put Colt on the PUP list. Either Colt is really hurt, they really are leery of him, or both. |

Going into thursday nights' game there was no mention of any lingering injury affecting Colt. Both Colt and Zorn had declared him fit and ready to play. Now we are lead to believe he's had a hip injury that's been bothering him since the Ravens game. Fishey maybe!! |

I predict we keep them all.........wow, I'm a swami. LOL. Unless they reach an injury settlement and cut ties with Colt like I also heard.

Re: Settle these 3 races, Brennan or Daniel, Thomas or Kelly, Mason or Cartwright?
The coaches made several decisions for old, veteran players over rookies with promise.
Cartwright, Wynn, Betts, Mike Williams, Tyron were kept. Dixon, Daniels, Jackson were let go. Why? Because Zorn and Blache both know they probably won't be here next year. Throw some bones to their old vets or 'project players' and let the new talent out the door. Our FO sucxs. Can't wait for Zorn and the rest of the coaches (except Buges) to be dumped. |

Marko Mitchell must be 52 years old then.
Cartwright, Wynn, Betts, Mike Williams, Tyron were kept.
If Mitchell is 52 yr old as a rookie, then as a 2nd year Tryon must be in his 60s. By the way, random story...I was in Philly this weekend and saw this guy wearing a Falcons Vick jersey...I had a to chuckle for a little bit. Second random story, I was driving pass Lincoln Field in Philly and proceded to boo and flip off the stadium. My wife looked at me funny and I said to her..."you're lucky this isn't Dallas' stadium, I'd probably be throwing feces at it". She proceded to laugh for the next minute or two. LOL. |
