Outlook for the rest of the season?
Vote and discuss
|
I believe they're just around the corner from being a very good team. However, the reality is that we are 1/4th into this season and if we want to hold on to our playoff aspirations for this season then starting this weekend we need to start turning "progress" into real results. So there's still time but the clock is ticking
|
There is plenty of time for them to put things together but we need to see better performance from players on the field and less platitudes from players into microphones.
|
I voted "still time but clock is ticking".
I still have faith in this team and will ALWAYS have faith in Gibbs. When Gibbs blew off Parcells at the end of the Dallas game, I don't think he intended to be rude to Bill. It's just that he HATES losing. That's why I think Gibbs will get it turned around sooner than later. |
I'm not old enough to remember Gibbs, so I may be the only one who doesn't exempt him from blame. Gibbs said that "Brunell palyed his heart out," if he believes that, the game has passed him by. I blame playcalling, bad challenges, a lack of discipline (which includes fumbles) and poor clock management. They're not executing and I don't think that a Mark Brunell led offense will ever put up big points.
Say what you want about his greatness or his leadership guess what the highest number of touchdowns Brunell has EVER thrown...19! He's never even gotten to 20 and, no offense, but Keenan McCardell and Jimmy Smith is a better 1-2 then Coles and Gardner. |
Brunell had 20 TD passes in 2000 and 1998 (in just 13 games).

I voted still time, but clock is ticking. I think we're real close, but we have stop shooting ourselves in the foot. But we're close. Eliminate the turnovers, get the ball in the endzone, and continue to play solid D and we should be fine.
|
Still time, clock is ticking. Another loss or two in the next 3 or 4 games and I'd say were in deep trouble. I'm just looking forward to this week, cause I think were close. We need to really cut down on the big mistakes and all the other obvious stuff. We need to ring off two before the bye, but hopefully were close.
|
I apologize I was incorrect. I know I was told that he either hadn't thrown 20 or more than 20...one or the other.

I voted no worries cuz before this season started most people were saying it'd be our defense that would be our weakness but thus far it has been our strength and I fully believe the offense is on the verge of being a fully cohesive unit. They've shown flashes of how potent the offense can be and also blown it on bonehead plays or series. We r only 16(13 spread out to tie plus the extra point in each to win the games) points away in our last 3 games from being 4-0 so I'm holding strong to my belief that the team can still be the team we dreamed it'd be this year.

bless your optimism SFT&T. you're well named. |
Thru & Thru
I'm with you thru & thru. It's good to hear someone hasn't thrown in the towel already. I actually hear someone say, "Bring Back Spurrier." Is that not,the most ridiculous thing that you've ever heard.
|
I'm one of the "clock ticking" votes. After Cleveland, my expectations came crashing down to earth. JG will make a difference, either this year or next. I am, however, of the mind that we should not EXPECT to be in the play-offs. Rather, I HOPE that we make it.
For the long run, patience. As Matty said elsewhere, Gibbs is too smart and too determined to win for him to fail in the long term. |
We're 1-3 and no one on the team feels like this is a 1-3 team. You've got to think with all the playmakers we have on offense that our scoring has got to pick up.
I still remember the first Gibbs tenure and the one thing I know is that the guy can coach football. It's coming, maybe not in time to make a playoff run, but the offense will start to play better. |
gibbs is still feeling out the new NFL right now... i think our biggest problem is field position and run blocking on the O line still, above play calling or the QB or any of that crap...

There's still time, but the clock is ticking.
jdlea - I think plenty of people have been giving Gibbs at least some of the blame. He is not the one fumbling or causing penalties, but he certainly does seem rusty, especially in game management. I've posted in a couple other threads that we have to remember that he was not just out of coaching, but completely out of football for the time he was gone. It will take some time for him to really get back to where he needs to be, and it is, but there is not a doubt in my mind that he will get there. That said, if we don't get a couple wins soon, we'll have to write off any hope of the playoffs, and just look for improvement to build on for next year....which isn't neccesarily a bad thing. Personally, I'm still hoping for 9-7 or better.. |
Well it is good to see that no one voted for stick a fork in them.
Still time, but clock IS ticking fast. Well it is hard to give up yet. We are not that bad of a team. It is just a matter of time when all our ducks will be in a row. Will it be too little too late? I would almost bet, but I am not giving up that easy. I would say by week 10 or so we could be the best team in the league (or at least the one team that is playing the best). I could see us winning against Philly at the end of the season. We just need some consistancy with both players and coaches; meaning if we have the same players and coaches year after year such as the Pats we could be a team to be feared. I am still hopeful of the playoff but i can see us going 8-8 at this point in the season. Next year should be the year. One thing for sure we all know the Coach Gibbs and Co. will not take this laying down. I am sure he has had his fair share of sleepless nights lately. |
I answered that there is still time but the clock is ticking. Although there is still time, I really don't see the Redskins making the playoffs this year. To many teams ahead of them I think. I just want to see them start playing better football so that all of the media gets off the back of Joe Gibbs. I don't like it when I read articles and see TV people blaming Gibbs for player mistakes and saying that he "lost it". So really I just want these mistake proned players to start producing to get everyone off my coach's back.

The skins need to be professional no excusses like an al Davis philosophy "just win baby!" I don't care how we do just do enough to get the W. If we beat philly and split the series with the other NFC east teams I'll be content and we'll be in the playoffs
