Madden Curse! #43 MCL Sprain
And the Madden curse continues...
Troy Polamalu suffered an MCL sprain late in the first half when Alge Crumpler rolled on his knee. Out 3-6 weeks. |
Re: Madden Curse! #43 MCL Sprain
Larry Fitzgerald bound to be listed as questionable at some point this year...
|
Re: Madden Curse! #43 MCL Sprain
they say 3-6 week but trust me it's going to be more

On Sunday Fitzgerald will incur an injury that will keep him out for the next 8 weeks...Nostradumbass has spoken! |
Re: Madden Curse! #43 MCL Sprain
If they're smart they'll sit him out for 8-10 weeks. Nothing worse than having a dinged up player play timid.
|
Re: Madden Curse! #43 MCL Sprain
Sucks for them. I hate the Steelers, but Polamalu is an amazing player.
On that note, did anyone see Titans TE Bo Scaife get hit on the knees by James Harrison? That was initially called a knee sprain, but I thought you could get flagged for going right at a guy's knees. |
Re: Madden Curse! #43 MCL Sprain
That's sad to see. Polamalu is one of the more exciting players to watch. His one handed interception last night was pretty sick
|
Re: Madden Curse! #43 MCL Sprain
Coincidence has once again added fuel to the idea of the 'Madden curse." Ugh.

Yeah that was impressive. He's what they call...good. |
Re: Madden Curse! #43 MCL Sprain
Coincidence has once again added fuel to the idea of the 'Madden curse." Ugh.
Ah yes, coincidence.....
2001 Eddie George - No performance drop-off or injury. 2002 Culpepper - Knee injury missed last 5 games of season. QB rating down from 98% to 83.3%. TD passes down from 33 to 14 2003 Faulk - 2002 was his first season in 5 years under 1000 yds rushing. Rams go 7-9. Foot and ankle injuries toward end of season. 2004 Vick - Leg injury, out for most of season 2005 Ray Lewis (Defensive Player) - In the 2005 season injured in week 6, out for season. 2006 McNabb - 4-5 record as starter. QB rating down from 104 to 85. Season ending injury. 2007 Alexander - Injury, huge decline in performance 2008 Vince Young - Booed off field, hasn't returned to Titans as starter. 2009 Favre - Record down from 13-3 to 9-7. QB rating down from 95 to 81. Left GB. Lost 4 out of 5 final games capped off with a 3 INT performance in the final game of season. Probably cost "Man-genius" his job. 2010 Polamalu - MCL sprain 2010 Fitz - TBD Here' a rule of thumb; happens once = $hit happens, happens twice = coincidence, happens three times = trend. So what have we learned today. 1) The Madden Curse is real 2) It didn't start until Madden 2002 3) It has a 1 year delay on defensive players in odd years. :cool-smil Isn't learning fun. :) |
Re: Madden Curse! #43 MCL Sprain
You know he led the team in tackles last night, and had 1 amazing INT. I know the mantra, one goes down another steps up, but that has to hit their D hard.

Re: Madden Curse! #43 MCL Sprain
What about all the injuries that happen to players that are not on the cover? Is that the "not-madden-curse"?
|

They were all considered for the position. |

That would be called "nothing to do with this thread" Hate to see a good guy get hurt, but i wont mind the Steeler D going down as a result. |
Re: Madden Curse! #43 MCL Sprain
He never seems to not show up for a game. Every single time I see the Steelers play he is all over the field. Extremely special player and I think this injury could last longer than expected, their secondary drops to below average with him out. Him and Ed Reed are my favorite safeties to watch, their play-making abilities are freakin incredible.

Re: Madden Curse! #43 MCL Sprain
I have a lucky rabbit's foot. Every time I've rubbed it before a game, the Redskins have gotten at least one first down.
Obviously my rabbit's foot is the reason why we get first downs. This has happened many times, so it can't be just coincidence. |

But guys like Troy and for us skins fans, Sean can't be replaced over night AND their aren't guys that good not starting. I was watching some old ST stuff the other day. Man he was really on is way to possibly being the best to ever play the position. |

Yes ST was good but going to be the best ever, I don't think so. If ST was alive right now I bet Troy P. is a better saftey then him. |
Re: Madden Curse! #43 MCL Sprain
I don't think it's a stretch to say ST could have been one of the best. He certainly was on his way.

Re: Madden Curse! #43 MCL Sprain
Without getting into a whole discussion on statistics and probabilities, let's just say this isn't a real good comparison.
Lotus is making an extreme comparison, but he's correct. If there was a Madden curse, something would have happened to Ray Lewis in 2004, but nothing happened until the next year.
Ergo, no one's cursed, but if you pick a player coming off an exceptional year, isn't their generally a pretty good chance the player will be banged up the next year. Polumalu could return in Week 5, and if he does so, he'll probably make the pro bowl. So how cursed is he really? It's a bullshit idea because no one ever defines what is supposed to happen to the Madden cover athlete. Is it supposed to be a season ending injury? Decline in performance? Because one or both of those things happen to 90% of superstars in this league. Considering that the last Madden cover athlete to really take a major injury was Vick in 2003, it's probably time that we let go of this silly idea. Unless we're going to attribute his felony to the Madden curse as well. I mean, why stop here? |
Re: Madden Curse! #43 MCL Sprain
I predict Larry Fitzgerald plays a completely healthy 16 games, and suffers a decline in production because his team goes 6-10.
Does that make him cursed? |

I've watched Lott, Woodson and all the rest of them. Sean could hit as hard as all of them and Troy P., as fast as he is, can't cover as large an area as Sean could. If Sean played up like Troy, he would have made the highlight film every week. Lott was probably the most feared player in his time, but he wasn't nearly as quick and before Sean passed he was the most intimidating player in the league. |

Ahmen... not going to comment further on Sean's potential greatness, and I didn't want to get into a pissing contestant with a fellow skins fan on whether or not he would have been. |
Re: Madden Curse! #43 MCL Sprain
Sean Taylor easily could've been THE best safety ever, assuming his play continued to improve as it was.

Re: Madden Curse! #43 MCL Sprain
Did anyone else notice that Polamalu was literally in on every defensive play during the first half?

That tackle on Chris Johnson at the beginning of the game was insanely great. I'm not a Steeler fan and I found that hardcore tackle inspiring for the team at the start of the game...purely awesome football play. Great way to start off the season. |

Re: Madden Curse! #43 MCL Sprain
Polamalu is a beast, and one of my favorite players in the game. He keeps his mouth shut and does his job exceptionally well. I hope he comes back quickly, and in full force. The NFL needs more guys like him.
