Jamal Out?
Somebody correct me if I heard this wrong:
Dan Patrick was just doing an in game tease for Sports Center and he said that the NFL might hand down the suspension on Jamal Lewis tomorrow and it would start Sunday Are they not going to appeal? Did I hear right? |
I think even if they hand it out Friday, he can go for an appeal immediately- chances are he's playing Sunday night.
|
He has 5 days to appeal if he chooses to do so.

You're right...he has 5 days to appeal..so basically it will be a Ravens decision..do they start the suspension this Sunday and get it out of the way or do they let the 5 days go by while thinking about appealing before deciding not to appeal...if that makes sense...Basically Billick and company need to decide if they need Jamal Lewis for this game or do they think they can win without him... |
Anyone else a bit more scared of Chester Taylor?
|
If I'm the Ravens... I don't mind starting the suspension with a 1-3 team.

Ok, so I'll admit I'm still a bit confused. I saw this article and it had me wondering if Jamal was sitting out Sunday:
If he is suspended by the NFL, the players association may decide to appeal because the transgression came before he was in the league, although the Ravens said they would accept any penalty. "We understand that Jamal is also subject to discipline by the NFL," Ravens President Steve Cass added. "We know that the commissioner will look thoroughly at all the circumstances surrounding Jamal's admission. We will accept whatever the commissioner decides."
|
Fox Radio is reporting that the Ravens have been informed that Jamal Lewis will be suspended for two games and will be fined four week's pay. The decision is expected to be announced on Friday morning. Should Lewis try to appeal the decision, he would almost certainly be available to play on Sunday. If not, the suspension would begin immediately, and Lewis would miss this Sunday's game against Washington and the next game against Buffalo.
|
We can only hope...
Maybe the Ravens feel that if the NFL suspends him, they ought to just accept that. Hell, he pleaded GUILTY. On what grounds is he going to appeal the NFL ruling? Buying 5 extra days just to play a game kinda flies in the face of the league, if it comes to that. But I've learned never to assume anything as far as the NFL and its players are concerned. I assume he'll be there because right now, the football gods are frowning on the skins. We'll have to suffer through whatever adversity, including dealing with the Lewises with no Lavar. Ack. |

Thanks davy, so I'm not totally crazy. So how do you get Fox Radio out in England, are you listening via Internet? |
I wouldn't be surprised if he sits against us and Buffalo, so he can come back against PHILLY. We're 1-3 and buffalo is 0-3 (?). We know philly's record.

Here's the Fox story:

Lewis is going to be suspended no matter what. Now, he can choose to appeal now and sit later on in the season, or go ahead and get it out of the way.
|
jamal may be able to get off since it happened soo long ago... i'd love to have him out on sunday... taylor isn't nearly as good... he doesn't break takles like jamal, no one breaks tackles like jamal...

Just copied that info from Yahoo Sports Pages, personally I can't see how the NFL can suspend him at all as the offence happened before he was an NFL player. |
I dont believe the NFL is suspending him for the incident itself.Rather he is being suspended because he pleaded guilty to a felony charge while he is an NFL player.Something about a character clause in the contract that says anything that they deem detrimental to the stature of the league can result in suspension and or fines.
|
I read somewhere that if the NFL wanted to they could ban him for life, not sure who it was or if it was true. Never going to happen, but it would be funny!
|
I would be surprised if he doesn't play on Sunday.
And no, Taylor is defintely not more of a concern. That would be like someone fearing Betts more than Portis. |
Looks like the suspension won't even start until the 24th. Seems weird to suspend a guy and put the suspesion in the future huh?
|
ESPN said that he will play this sun. :( Figures! :cussing:
|
Good - no excuses for the Ravens fans!
|
This will be a real test for our run defense. If we can hold Jamal in check, we should be able to win the game.
|
I think they will be able to shut down Lewis and force them to pass. If anythign what im really hoping is that our offense finally gets their act together and lights it up so they have to pay to TRY and come back from behind.
|
If we stop Jamal Lewis, theres no doubt in my mind we will win this game. Baltimore's passing game is pitiful. They have no dangerous recivers, except for Todd Heap @ TE but hes out anyways. Our Corners should shut these guys down completley, plus Boller has trouble throwing the ball even if they are open.

it'd be nice if we had daniels and LA were out there to help...
|
FYI NFL.com says he faces a 2 week suspension and 4 weeks salary fine, all due with effect from 14th October, but if he appeals, the ban would start 18th (curious how they say even after appeal he starts the ban - worded as if there's no chance of the appeal working!).
Personally, considering what he did, I thik he got off lightly. It should be a 4-6 week ban at least. And why should the authorities bow to him serving in the off season? How many convicted criminals get to chose when they start their sentence? :nono: |
How many convicted criminals get to chose when they start their sentence?
A) He's not convicted (not to the hefty charges), and B) all the famous ones... that is, all the famous ones that actually go to jail... but its not totally unheard of, if you can make a case that it'd be in the interests of the public good, courts will at least listen... here he gets to choose because its part of the plea... otherwise he goes to trial against a weak case at best... |
