Re: Redskins Thumbs Up and Thumbs Down
Thumbs up: The Redskins as a team came together and performed VERY well. At least outside of the redzone. And our "Bend don't break" defense did exactly that.
Thumbs down: Jim Zorn. (Obvious reasons) |
Re: Redskins Thumbs Up and Thumbs Down
Red Zone offense agree, overall offense - not so much.
|
Re: Redskins Thumbs Up and Thumbs Down
I give a big thumbs down to me calling Jim Zorn a great head coach.
I think he has very good head coach instincts, but his playcalling is abysmal and as long as he is calling that kind of a garbage game he is more like a very below average head coach. |
Re: Redskins Thumbs Up and Thumbs Down
Thumbs up JC passing in the middle of the field.
Thumbs down. JC passing towards the sidelines. Under Saunders it looked like JC was uncomfortable using the middle of the field and now it's the exact opposite? What gives? |
Re: Redskins Thumbs Up and Thumbs Down
Thumbs up: JC and Horton
Thumbs Down: Zorn and our linebackers. Two Thumbs Down: Santana Moss |
Re: Redskins Thumbs Up and Thumbs Down
Thumbs up: Chris Cooley and the Overall Defense played great
Thumbs down: Receivers dropping touchdowns and fumbling and Jim Zorn playcalling the second half and red zone situations |
Re: Redskins Thumbs Up and Thumbs Down
Chris Cooley is off to his best start yet in his career. Big thumbs up for him.
|
Re: Redskins Thumbs Up and Thumbs Down
Thumbs up: Phat Al being beastly
Thumbs up: Rocky Mc. made some fine plays Thumbs up: Jason Campbell did everything he could, given what he had to work with Thumbs up: Hunter Smith with a giant boot from the end zone. He may have saved us three Rams points Thumbs down: Santana Moss was almost invisible yet again Thumbs down: running game continues to underperform Downright stinky: red zone play calls |
Re: Redskins Thumbs Up and Thumbs Down
Thumbs up: Big al and Griff..both of them were solid
Thumbs up: JC you played excellent, made smart reads and took chances. Thumbs down: hall for playing too soft at times and giving up 1st downs at crucial times thumbs down: to play calling |
Re: Redskins Thumbs Up and Thumbs Down
The awful red zone playcalling overshadowed the vast improvement the team made on third downs these last two weeks.
|
Re: Redskins Thumbs Up and Thumbs Down
Small thumbs down to Carlos Rogers. He struggles with very few receivers, but those big, physical guys in the Plaxico mold (such as Laurent Robinson) always seem to get the best of him.

7/15 today for 47% very good |
Re: Redskins Thumbs Up and Thumbs Down
Biggest positives for me, Tryon played well and so did Kelly.
|
7/15 today for 47%
very good
Keep converting like that, and we'll be in the red zone a lot more. Part of me wants to give Zorn a pass for taking the "we're going to run the ball down their throats when we smell blood" philosophy, but my god, after the second drive in a row where the Rams beat our OL and win at the LOS, you know, maybe don't be so hard-headed? |
Re: Redskins Thumbs Up and Thumbs Down
You guys covered the thumbs down.
Thumbs up: Offensive line protection Thumbs up: Stephon Heyer. I haven't heard much from his side, which is good as far as I'm concerned. Thumbs up: When was the last time Swish made 3 FGs? Thumbs up: Malcolm Kelly. Starting to earn his keeps. Thumbs up: JC running the ball. More dicisive when he's had running room. Thumbs up: Cornelius Griffin. |
Re: Redskins Thumbs Up and Thumbs Down
I liked that Zorn used almost all our offensive weapons, just not necessarily how and when he used them
|
Re: Redskins Thumbs Up and Thumbs Down
I liked that Zorn used almost all our offensive weapons, just not necessarily how and when he used them
He runs a lot of 2 TE stuff, which is good, but when he tries to get the ball to Davis, it's almost like saying "hey, we should probably give the ball to Fred Davis here". And then running something more designed to get the ball to Fred Davis than to actually move the ball forward.
|
Re: Redskins Thumbs Up and Thumbs Down
4 redzone drives inside the 10, Shoulda been 5 without Tana's fumble and we come away with 9 points thank god we played the rams THUMBS DOWN!

Tanna's fumble, the fluke roughing the passer call, and the two dropped tds were just deadly. |
Re: Redskins Thumbs Up and Thumbs Down
Thumbs down to Steve Spagnoulo, who made Zorn look like a clock managing genius by wasting all of his timeouts in the third quarter, the final one on a punt.
|

Yeah, no shit. Had we been playing anyone else, surely we lose this game. But then again, the Skins have a tendacy to play the tough teams well. |
Re: Redskins Thumbs Up and Thumbs Down
Up: Cooley's 7 receptions and 83 yards.
Down: The TE being the only receiving threat. |

Markco was in there for a few plays...I like that. |

I love how he tried to take that timeout back...timeout on a punt on the opponents 45 yrd line...LOL |
Re: Redskins Thumbs Up and Thumbs Down
Thumbs up to Kelly. He surpassed last years totals and I don't think he drops passes that he gets his hands on. Very upbeat about his attitude too. On the post game show, he talked about staying late this week and working on other plays. Sounds very level headed and upbeat!
|
Re: Redskins Thumbs Up and Thumbs Down
Did we use more shotgun this week? If so thumbs up. Seemed liked JC was very confident.

I thought Danny Smith was going to tackle Zorn, racing down the sideline to keep him from calling that last timeout. Today's experience at Fed X was a riot to say the least. |

We re-watched that several times. Looks like Danny told JZ to take the timeout (expecting him to let the clock run down) and Zorn started to call it immediately. Very funny to see Danny Smith yanking Zorn's hands apart so he couldnt call it that fast. |

I saw that interview too. Kelly is definitely all about getting better. I dare say, a Redskin. They were asking him about the fans booing and he was like, hey, this is the NFL. Very good attitude. |
Re: Redskins Thumbs Up and Thumbs Down
gameballs Chris Cooley, Horton, JC, Al, Griff, Rocky Mac
kick in the balls Santana Moss, ZORN!!!!! MEangelo Hall, offensive line not making holes for our running game. |

Re: Redskins Thumbs Up and Thumbs Down
Thumbs Up:
- Our defensive tackles!!! Phat Al dominated when he played but my God Griff is playing like a probowler IMHO. The rotation is working extremely well too...hats off to Palermo. - Jason Campbell. I luv watching him take the offense into his hands (as much as Zorn will let him). He was really good today. Should have had a TD on the record but Mike Sellers exchanged his hands for Los Goat hooves just before that play and the result was inevitable. Thumbs Down: - Jim Zorn. He may not last the season from what I saw today. That was inarguably the worst called game I've ever seen. The sweep left on 4th down, which puts CP who looks slow and gimpy, 5 yards behind the LOS should have brought Snyder down onto the field. It was a day of insanity out there. |

That's true and it's so strange. Jerry Gray has typically kept his group performing very well. |

The Cowboys lost their home opener at their stupid new stadium.....THUMBS WAY THE HELL UP!!

Re: Redskins Thumbs Up and Thumbs Down
Thumps up: We´re already better than the Lions last year.

Re: Redskins Thumbs Up and Thumbs Down
Thumbs up:
1.We won the game 2.JC made good decisions and protected the ball. He used his mobility when the pocket broke down and ran for positive yards. He did not throw a int. 3.Cooley was a threat in the middle of the field and made clutch catches. However 2nd half he was quiet. 4.O-line gave JC time to go through his reads to find the open WR. 5.Portis ran tough when their were not many holes. 6.Kelly was involved in the offense making 4 grabs. 7.Mason saw his 1st reg. season carry. 8.Special Teams played very good. 9.Defense allowed on 1 TD. 10.Defense pressured Rams QB and forced turnover in the Red Zone. 11.Griff,Haynesworth,Rocky,Horton,Carter,London all made a impact today. Thumbs Down: 1.Offense did not score a TD. 2.Defense can't get off the field on 3rd downs. 3.CB giving to much cushion on WR which allow 3rd down conversions. 4.D.Hall getting beat on the fade route by a knowbody WR.(Robinson). 5.Orakpo for getting the Roughing the passer call on a defense turnover in Rams territory. 6.Zorn consevative play calling in the Red Zone. 7.Zorn not trusting JC in the Red Zone out of the Gun. That formation got you down there. 8.Sellers dropping TD catch and lackluster blocking today. 9.O-LIne getting out physical by the Rams D-Line in run blocking. 10.Not going to our big Weapons (Kelly,Cooley,Mitchell,Thomas) more in the red Zorn when it was clear we could not run down their. 2. |

And their defense is looking stout as well.... I know they played the BROWNIES but hey, we struggled vs the RAMS. A team we should have crushed at home with us having 200+ yds of offense before the half and how many redzone possessions that stalled? JC looked good but our playcalling lacks the aggression that you see the top teams have. I know i will get blasted for this, im just frustrated that Zorn cant get us in the endzone while teams who i thought would struggle --Lions,Broncos,Raiders,Bills-- have done more than us offensively. I know we played the Gmen who have a tough D but SH%%, Dallas without scored 30 on them WITHOUT T.O. Again im just very frustrated right now. The fk'n bills have outscored us.AAHHHH sorry |
Re: Redskins Thumbs Up and Thumbs Down
Since our NFC schedule is the same as last year, beating the Rams puts us 1 game up from last year's record. Now if we can sweep Philly and beat the Giant's just one friggin time, we should be playoff bound! :)
