Offensive line depth (R. Thomas' injury)
Okay so I know this is a little premature but I think we should talk about the offensive line depth now that Randy Thomas has a triceps injury. Does anybody feel comfortable with our depth if any one of our starters is down for an extended period of time? Lets say R. Thomas tore his triceps and is out for the year, or even anywhere from a couple weeks to a couple months. Who thinks our depth is good enough to be a long term replacement (at least for the season)? Personally I don't. From what I saw Montgomery didn't do too bad but then again it wasn't like he was going up against the Giants d-line. Not to mention it was clear JZ didn't want to run towards the right with Montgomery and Heyer over there.
So if Thomas is out for an extended period of time what is our options? Should we trade possibly a higher draft pick for a long term replacement for Thomas? Because I for one believe if his season is over then he will have played his final down for the Redskins. We can't keep relying on an oft-injured, 34 yr old guard to stay healthy for the entire season. It's time to get younger and potentially better on the o-line and if Thomas is gone then we need to get a permanent replacement rather than waiting until the end of the season. But yeah just some thoughts on the situation. Even if it turns out to be minor who still isn't comfortable with our depth? It says plenty that JZ deactivated 3 o-linemen before the game started and decided to go with two backups (one a guy who hasn't played a regular season game in like 4 seasons, and the other a guy who didn't have any real game experience before today). |
Re: Offensive line depth (R. Thomas' injury)
What worries me is why Montgomery was put in instead of Rhinehart. I mean maybe Rhinehart wasn't active due to the fact that Monty plays Center but at the same time why isn't he playing?

Re: Offensive line depth (R. Thomas' injury)
I'll be honest with you if that's the case, let it be it. This guy is always hurt (more than Springs ever was). We should have drafted OG, OL,C, but didn't. We should just move on with younger players and get them the experience. If Thomas is out for the year, then he should retire.

Re: Offensive line depth (R. Thomas' injury)
Sounds like its time to clear some room on the roster for a veteran
Guard (Kendall Simmons & Pete Kendall) are still FA,s and should come real cheap!!! |
Re: Offensive line depth (R. Thomas' injury)
If we get Pete Kendall back here to play right guard.....................I'll start dancing! Because, That montgomery guy scares me
|
Re: Offensive line depth (R. Thomas' injury)
This just in: Redskins report says Randy Thomas is indeed out for the season with a torn tricep.
|
Re: Offensive line depth (R. Thomas' injury)
Yeah CSN just reported that as well. Dirtbag makes a good point about Rinehart, he's in his second season now and he's still not good enough to be activated for the game? Who would you rather have in there, Rinehart or Montgomery?
|
Re: Offensive line depth (R. Thomas' injury)
Maybe Montgomery was activated because he plays center AND guard. Didn't we have a backup tackle active? If so, that covers the line w/out Rinehart.
|
Re: Offensive line depth (R. Thomas' injury)
This whole discussion about Reinhart tells me our depth sucks. We should have had one of our two top picks the last several seasons be linemen, or at least two linemen every draft. What did we do a few years ago? We drafted 3 RB's, a position already well stocked. We should have drafted 3 linemen that year. I bet one or two could have panned out for us.

Re: Offensive line depth (R. Thomas' injury)
Losing RT will be a huge loss for you guys. Hopefully it doesn't have a domino effect.
|
Re: Offensive line depth (R. Thomas' injury)
here comes pete kendall, or Rhinehart as our starter at RG

Not a huge loss at all. RT was already pretty broken down already. |

Exactly. We usually only have two backup linemen active, a tackle and a guard/center. In a pinch we could also bring Lorenzo Alexander to play guard. I think we'll see what Rinehart has next week, hopefully he surprises. |

I know. I mean as in things start to fall apart afterwards with other players. |

Don't get me wrong. More injuries on the Oline and the Redskins are in even more trouble. |

hell yeah, your new here and a boys fan but ray brown deserves respect, i respect that you respect that. go skins!! |
Re: Offensive line depth (R. Thomas' injury)
I thought Montgomery actually filled in quite well.
I think it's clearly Rinehart's time to step up now though. |
Re: Offensive line depth (R. Thomas' injury)
randy thomas bbqs cookies.
|
Re: Offensive line depth (R. Thomas' injury)
Same shit different year. We got issues on the line even with Thomas so this is just another thing to worry about. Good defenses will take it to our line.
|
Re: Offensive line depth (R. Thomas' injury)
We don't run to the right anyway.
|
Re: Offensive line depth (R. Thomas' injury)
Anyone else think Thomas is done as a Redskin?
Could be. |

Could be.
Yep, I think he's done. If he indeed goes to IR, that will be the end of his time here. |
Anyone else think Thomas is done as a Redskin?
Could be.
How long has he been in the league? Might be time for him to hang it up? I know he's getting injured left and right season in and season out. Keep this up and he'll end up like Jansen.. |

Could be.
I think he is probably just done. Total warrior. |
Re: Offensive line depth (R. Thomas' injury)
I mean I love Randy Thomas.... but I'm kind of sad about how "Whatever" I am about this. I mean this dude absolutley balled for us in 03-06 ... but at this point, I'm ready to get some new blood in.

Re: Offensive line depth (R. Thomas' injury)
His cap hit is around $5M next year, he's probably as good as gone.
|
Re: Offensive line depth (R. Thomas' injury)
It's too bad. The will and desire are still there. The body...not so much. :(

Could be.
Yes, and I wrote that in our article. Two season missed plus age equals change. |

how many beers did you drink today? i understand your man love for both guys but c'mon. |
Re: Offensive line depth (R. Thomas' injury)
Ok, Now is it time to start worrying about age and health of O-line and the overall depth???!!!! Not good, but rather it be the inside guys instead of the tackles. So anybody know why the hell Reinhart wasnt active today? I thought this guy was coming along and finally "getting it?" Well so far Reinhart is in the same opinion right now as D Thomas is, a waste of a roster spot. Montgomery played all right, but Heyer is not getting any push out of his position in the running game on that side anyways. Now I hope the Oline doesnt head the way it finished last year, but gentleman, welcome to the first step in losing RT.

Could be.
I love the guy but his body is just letting him down. He's done. |
Re: Offensive line depth (R. Thomas' injury)
He has hardly played in the last 4 seasons. Not sure if he is done-done but don't think he'll get paid like he currently is. He'll have the option to take less money next year and stay or walk. I figure he's the type of guy that will take less money.

Re: Offensive line depth (R. Thomas' injury)
Hopefully someone can play up to par. I definitely would not be shocked to see kendall as a skin or a trade go down in classic ceratto/snyder form

Exactly. Next week Rinehart will start, and Montgomery will be backup. Seems like our depth should be fine. |
Re: Offensive line depth (R. Thomas' injury)
We still have O-lineman. MW, the center from Maryland we picked up plays Guard, we could bring back Bridges. There's a lot we could do.
|
Re: Offensive line depth (R. Thomas' injury)
Anyone else think Thomas is done as a Redskin?
Could be.
Yep. Time for a changing of the guard, if you don't mind the pun. Thomas was not his old self anyway. Maybe Rinehart or Montgomery can step up and we can run to the right for a change. |
