Can we get a little luck?

Is it just me or does it seem like everything in the world seems to go wrong for the Redskins and the most inopportune times...Is it just bad coaching and lack of preparation or, like me, does anyone get the vibe that this team just can't catch a break?

I mean Johnson throwing a perfect TD pass on his first pass play in the NFL? Hunter Smith going down with an injury on the first punt? It just seems like week in and week out its just one mistake/bad luck after another. Further, every week we question Jim Zorn's decision making but when the guy explains his decisions, they actually make a lot of sense and seem like the right decision within the context of what happened. His play calling could be greatly improved but it seems that the poor guy is just trying to stay level headed and do the best he can but just everything seems to go wrong...

Any thoughts?

Re: Can we get a little luck?

I feel bad for Zorn too man, every coach had their own struggles when they first came in...people want to rush to get a "proven" coach...but fail to understand that they were once a rookie head coach as well. The problems lie with vinny cerrato...zorn is doing an ok job to be honest..but I would like to see us replace Blache with more of a hard nosed D Coordinator.

Re: Can we get a little luck?

Can we get a little luck. How about telling that to a Raiders fan right about now. I live in Southern California and I see what Raiders fans are going through which closely resembles our success the last few years. Today game Carlos Rogers had a chance to intercept the ball that hit him right in the chest and run it back for a TD. Against the Lions S. Moss gets face mask and the refs over turn the call on the field. Also today we score and get the extra point blocked, what do we have to do to get a break? I hope today maybe the start of the Redskins getting the breaks in the game.

Re: Can we get a little luck?

I'm not big on "luck", but the ball has been bouncing in the wrong direction for some time. I think what we are going through is not a string of bad luck, but the benefits of what our FO has done to the team in the past couple of years. Somehow, someway, Vinny and Danny are behind all of this.

Re: Can we get a little luck?

The fumble forced by Jarmon 9 times out of 10 always seems to bounce right back into our opponents hands. That was the first fumble in I don't know how many games where a fumble fell into our hands at a critical time to end the game.

It does seem sometimes that if it wasn't for bad luck we'd have none at all.

We got all the luck we need this year - the schedule!
Can you imagine what things would be like if we'd opened w/more div. games?

Re: Can we get a little luck?

Please, you make your own luck by preparing and game planning properly. Starts in the FO, then coaches, then the players...one thing about the Gibbs eras here, the players seemed to show up ready to play with a clear vision of what needed to be done to win. Look at the piss poor job Zorn has done this season, we come out very slow, getting behind early...If we came out more ready to play we would get those bounces. At the start of the games I look at the players and coach and I see a "oh sh*t, here we go..somebody make a play cause I cant"...U can already see a defeated look

Injuries happen. It happened to our O-line last yr. Good teams can fight through this. At the risk of sounding like I'm making excuses for Zorn, it's easy for all of us to look at a play after it's failure and question why it was called. I know he's trying to change things up so teams won't know what he's going to do at any given time. Also there are two sides to every story. He calls a play and it's successful ...he's a genius. He call a play and it's a bomb he's an idiot. In both cases he most likely would have an reason as to why he called the play and especially if it doesn't work cause he's going to have to answer for it later.

Maybe we need more time in this offense but it kills me to see teams running their plays all preseason getting ready for the regular season. They basically say these are our plays, we know they are good plays, try to figure out a way to stop it or we'll beat you. They don't care if other teams know the plays. It always seems like the Skins are afraid to divulge anything. Like "oh my god if the other teams see our plays we won't be able to run them" so they go vinella during preseason and the team has trouble getting the plays down during the season.

Wins a win. Good job Skins. I thought they would lose so I'll eat my crow, but I just don't like the ugly wins. This brand of football will not lead us to any chanpionships.

How did he get hurt? Did it "just" happen or did someone hit him?

Re: Can we get a little luck?

Well actually we did have a few lucky plays yesterday. If that ball did not hit the ref in the head then it was a good chance that TB would have had another int. and then with the ball bouncing up in the air that high they usually get int. So on that one play we got lucky twice.

Re: Can we get a little luck?

Well that is way it works in the NFL, and in life actually(I know corny). But when things are going well the ball just seems to bounce in your direction. When things are going bad, it seems to cascade into further problems.

I do not blame the Skins woes on dumb luck. They have put themselves in that situation. The blame starts at the top but goes down to every individual in the organization, IMO.

You know the saying...I'd rather be lucky than good. With the Redskins, we have no choice...we need to be good.

Re: Can we get a little luck?

What about the 2 missed TB field goals that would have had us down 16-0 at the half??

What about the ball that went off the ref's head? Dont know how that wasn't picked.

We can cry about Smith and Thomas's injuries but in the big picture I think we've been pretty clean on the injury front.

Sorry can't blame bad luck for our start this year, we're just not very good.

Re: Can we get a little luck?

A good football team creates their own luck. It's making dumb personnel decisions that upsets me. How could anyone trade a Hall of Fame cornerback to Denver for a devisive running back? How could the Redskins let a solid middle linebacker who was our defensive field general go to the hated New York Giants? And how could the Redskins not see the deficiencies of the offensive line that's been there for several years and not fix it? Sometimes Campbell looks bad because the people around him make him look like a second-rate QB. To sign the dregs of the NFL, other teams' castoffs, as a fix to the offensive line is outrageous! One thing the Redskins should learn this year is that Vinnie Cerrato needs to go, and the sooner the better!

Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed.

Anyway, our team problems have nothing to do with luck.

I'm not picking on you but if being a "butterfinger" were only the problem, things would be better...Los consistently tries to catch the ball with his body, not his hands, and thus repeatedly fails.

Luck or no luck the bottom line is we suck! I love my REDSKINS whether they win or lose but we are a bad offensive football team and have an overrated defense. Next year, new coach, new quarterback, here we go again.................

Add this to a shotty offensive line, you're going to have the same problems.

Not to burst anyones bubble but according to MNF teams that start the season 2-2 have a 35% chance of making the playoffs. Conversely 4-0 teams have around an 80% chance of making the playoffs.

Just an FYI, that's the football glossary you cut and pasted.
Also, Bill James theory has a flaw in it when it comes to football. He uses the points scored vs points against to dictate his numbers. He does not factor in luck (like how we beat the rams). The pythagorean theory doesn't work well in football like it does baseball.

No, we did not deserve our 2 wins (maybe the Tampa game...sort of...but no way the Rams). We are lucky to be 2-2, and we have very little to hold our heads up high on. We are not playing well enough to beat decent teams, and we are barely beating (or luckily beating) subpar teams...even lost to a subpar team and should have lost to another.

Re: Can we get a little luck?

these plays ring out as bad luck to us because we don't have better ones to make up for it

AP had clay matthews strip the ball and run it back for a TD.. we'd see that as bad luck because it would lose the game

it's only temporarily unfortunate for Minn, because they won and looked mostly good doing so

Everyone's talking about luck when we all know damn well it's a curse...the Snyder Curse lol Sorry, but dude just cannot get a plan to come together, kinda feel sorry for the guy, but we'll be lucky to see another ring as long as he's involved imho. I've felt this way ever since Gibbs left...again.

I'm not saying we deserved to lose those games but I'm not going to use some expected win stat to say that we earned those well.

How did the losses come about?

JLee9718 10-12-2009 03:22 PM

Re: Can we get a little luck?

In Gibbs I, he had Richie Petitbon (sp?) as his defensive coach. He won. In Gibbs II, he didn't have Petitbon, and he seemed lost, almost to the point of having people feel sorry for him. Plus Bugel was a lot younger back then (we all were!), but can he really see what the offensive line really looks like? So I'm tired of listening to those who say that what this team needs is for Gibbs to come back.

Luck is the residue of good preparation and planning. Don't remember who said that but it is more true than not true.

The Skins will get a little luck when they plan better on how to put together a winning team and a winning organization. Until then, so long and thanks for all the fish...

At the time I felt like it was just bad luck, but give carolina credit; their guy pushed westbrook into ARE which caused that to happen. If westbrook could've held his ground, that wouldn't have happened.
