Two women who I could care less about. That upper midwest Yankee accent makes me cringe. Oprah, I wish she'd just make up her mind. Your chuncky girl, live with it!

I completely fail to see what the problem with this video is. Would be so kind enough to enlighten us as to what the problem is? What exactly Is your objection?

BTW if a family wanting to get on a reality TV show can control the news media with a story of a boy trapped in a balloon for an entire week we have no hope at all.

However , if the White House aims to " control " the media , it can create a problem ... will the only media with access to the white house have to be only positive towards the Admin ? The media's job is to question our elected offiacials , the media is our source of info . This may be in line with all Presidential Admin's , similar to damage control ? Just asking the questions , not saying they are guilty of wrong doing .

I was not using " sad " in relation to who won , only that so much reporting on the negative is overwhelming . I never cry over spilled milk , the Skins losing or other things not in my control , nor do I hate the DNC , as I beleive all Americans need to have representation . I am not bitter , I always land on my feet , and I'm healthy . I would LOVE to see Independents and Libertarians gain seats in next years mid terms , as I see that is the only thing that will change "politics as usual " . Trust me Dmek , I have learned enough not to let the Dems hurt me , I do worry about the status of many of our small Business owners and , inexperienced small investors < middle class > . I bleed Red White & Blue , Dem or Rep , they all boast greatness , both are full of sh-- :)

I would love to see some Libertarians gain traction as well. They are just perceived as being cooky, which I think is unfair. But I do think it's time for a third part to emerge.

I like some of Ron Paul's position on the role of the Fed. I think he has given up on trying to completely abolish it altogether and is now pushing legislation to make them more transparent. That's something I can support.

The problem I see with the libertarian part is they seem very unorganized. Didn't we just have a president elected who said he would make goverment more transparent?

He did promise to do that, but it's been nine/ten months. I will admit though, the president has fallen short on some of his transparency promises thus far.

As the Fed Reserve goes, since they do act independently, it would take an act of Congress to ensure more transparency.

Been reading around the site and I really am liking what I'm seeing. I'm a little weary on their handling of drugs but I definitely understand where they're coming from and could be sold on it with more information. I really liked what I read about the handling of crime and violence and even though I've been identifying as a dem, through personal hands on experience, I've been swayed more towards defending the private ownership rights of guns. And then of course, there's stuff like abortion and gay marriage yada yada and other social issues, that are pretty much hands off to the government and left up to the individuals which I love.

I gotta keep staying informed on this. Libertarians might just have themselves a new member by 2012. Cause I'm kinda over the Right wing v. Left wing stuff.

Does anyone on here actually identify as Libertarian?

Is being a Libertarian an all or nothing proposition? Must one subscribe to all their ideas to be considered one?

DynamiteRave 10-22-2009 12:54 PM

Re: Sarah Palin To Sit Down With Oprah

Well it's never all or nothing. Most people usually fall in the middle of at least one or two issues. Labeling is completely a social construct. Personally I like having label though, at least in terms of political parties it's less of limbo for me. I mean, even if you don't label what you believe, someone else will. I'd rather define myself instead of having someone do it for me.

As a libertarian I find it suspect that a woman has a right over her body but a junkie doesn't?

Every state is different. The Libertarian movement is geared towards letting local people choose what is right for themselves.

Be careful, Dynamite. Libertarian views are to the extreme right, and don't mesh well with the philosophy of the Democans or Republicrats.

I like certain things, I dislike others, and some are mumbo-jumbo that isn't well thought out at all. In politics principles are shed easily and Libertarians are no different in that regard.

Well the things I'm most concerned about are the social issues right now, which Libertarians seem to believe that at least the Federal government should have no role in. I'm down for that. And I like their stance on violence and crime and punishment. I've always leaned towards the right on that. Pro-death penalty, blah blah.

I'm sure as I get older and out of college the fiscal things and healthcare, national security, etc will mean more. But right now it all sorta falls on my deaf ears.

If not I can always smoke a j.

Perhaps . . . . There are consequences for abadoning your principles. The tea baggers are what was the base of the Republican party. As one who attends rallies, the Republicans are hated as much, if not more than the Dems are.
