They just signed this guy (wide receiver) to their practice squad

When you look at his stats they seem pretty good.

West Texas A&M. Coached by Ryan Leaf!

Maybe. I can't assume he played there post-2006 season.

This might be a dumb question but...

Why are we signing people to the practice squad?

"WR Anthony Armstrong drew raves during OTAs for his vastly improved route-running skills. The lightning-quick Armstrong, a former AFL star for the Dallas Desperados, torched nearly every defensive back in camp, and has moved up the depth chart into fourth place ahead of Brandon London."

I'll see what I can find out about this dude during my weekend in MIA. Although I doubt if anyone, including me, even cares at this point.

Great. Cheap and available. That's worked well for us.

OMG. You can't be serious? Let me ask the obvious question. Has he been developed already? Cause if not you can count on more of the same from another teams camp scrubs.

More importantly will he give JC time to get the ball out to any WR?

Which begs the question....who got let go? Yesterday we cut MM and Alridge and a the Punter Pakalak? to only sign Levi, Wynn, and Ganther. All spots filled. So I wonder who got cut off the PS?

KLHJ2 10-21-2009 02:59 PM

Re: Redskins Sign Armstrong...Seriously, No Joke, Ain't Even Playin'

He is almost the same body type as Moss, so unless he has a 7Ft verticle jump it's going to be more of the same. I thought that they (Chris Carter and others) were talking about how much Sherman Smith likes those big guys.

Why was this guy dumped when he was "doing so well" in Miami?

What in the hell is really going on. This just seems like another desparation move from Vinny with no real thought behind it. It's official, his ass is on the line and he is in "panic mode"

Pakulak was brought up from the practice squad to the active roster last weekend. When that happened a spot opened up on the ps

What is Vinny's fascination with WR's? He never saw one he did not want to get. How many do we have on the roster and practice squad now? Enough.

Patriots worked him out a few weeks ago. Maybe he can take ARE's spot.. don't know why we haven't tried that with Thomas or one of the backs we let go though.

we are the dumbest franchise right now...why the hell would we be signing WR when we dont use the ones we have...can anyone say Marko Mitchell?????
And what about the sorry a$$ line we have???? Why not bring in NOTHING BUT OL?????

This signing captures why we suck....flash and flare over structural building

it's just the practice squad man

you pull the better players that you can find to it, it's not the active roster

if another team has someone that we need on their PS we can always go after them

What an amazing signing. Amazing speed and route running...who would have thought he would have 772 yards with 2 games to go? I can't wait to see him on the field next year!

Nice bump, saden.
He's outperformed this guy:

,,,and for millions less. Goes to show the biggest FA of the year is not necessarily that good.

Lol at everybody who was wrong in this thread. 40 receptions, 772 yards, and the #2 wideout spot locked down for the time being later, that signing is looking pretty good. Hopefully he keeps producing for us but I'm sure he'll always have his haters, as long as he isn't putting up elite #2 wideout numbers, just like people hate on Moss despite him being our most dependable receiver and a mostly reliable guy.

Huntz was on point with this! Vinny left us with an all-star

All he does really is run deep, but he does it well and unlike previous guys who ran deep routes he catches the ball

Who is hating on AA now? I thinks he's been a fairly bright spot in this season.

Coff 12-20-2010 09:36 PM

Re: Redskins Sign Armstrong...Seriously, No Joke, Ain't Even Playin'

He could likely finish the season with 900+ yards receiving. When was the last time the Skins had a number 2 receiver with over 900 yards? Albert Connell in '99?

Re: Redskins Sign Armstrong...Seriously, No Joke, Ain't Even Playin'

Interesting - good bump! I didn't realize that Armstrong was a VINNY signing. I gave Shanahan credit for discovering him. Nevertheless -- I guess Shanny deserves credit for holding onto him & actually starting him.

And on a side note he did by far the best Dougie end zone dance in the NFL this year. Speed and Dance moves= great WR potential.

I don't think they're hating on AA as much as they're saying they're not satisfied with our current group of wideouts. Personally if we went into next season with Moss and Armstrong as our top two I wouldn't mind, I'd just rather have some young talent instead of Roydell Williams (who really hasn't brought much to the team).

I just think most people want a "real" number 1. Moss and Armstrong are both very good role players at this point. A strong # 1 (I am thinking of Calvin Johnson, VJax, SRice type player) would make a strong WR corps, consisting of new #1, Moss, Armstrong, and Banks, with Austin in reserves.
