Will Dan Snyder finally fire Vinny Cerrato
Well with this season being well what it is, one of the very worst starts and if I had to guess probably one of the worst finishes on the horizon.
This as we all know is a crap sandwich from TOP to BOTTOM. With no signs of improvement in the near future, at least this season. As -RIGGO- laid it down will LINUS FINALLY get rid of the blanket, that being Vinny. This IMO could be one of the biggest successes of this horrible season if Dan with cut ties with this clown. Hire a qualified VP/GM and let this new hire with a new coaching staff do there jobs. With Dan staying out of the way, and understanding he is just a really big fan with a really big wallet, with ZERO business trying to run the show IF he really cares about the team being a success and his fan base that is not being so loyal at this point. Will OR does he finally get it...? The 1.5 Billion dollar question. I don't think I'm being to unrealistic with this thinking that even Dan may finally see the light. With this horrible mess that has unfolded. Personally I hope that Vinny is relieved of his duties ASAP, or as soon as the very last game is played this season. Furthermore, I do believe Dan will make the right move after this disaster. Hire the best football minds to run this organization. I expect to see a completely different team next season from TOP to BOTTOM. Of course excluding Dan, we all know Dan will never fire himself OR sell the Redskins (At least I don't think, as the old saying goes everything is for sale). Your thoughts. |

Re: Will Dan Snyder finally fire Vinny Cerrato
I completely agree with you that Snyder is a really big fan with deep pockets. There is no way in hell Snyder will sell the Skins, he loves owning this team. However I also believe he does not like our team being one of the NFL's punching bags, and if we are not careful one of the true laughing stocks of the league. If that does not sink in, if and when revenues begin to sink then surely he will wake up, if not just open one eye.
One way he could do this is get rid of Cerrato and bring in a true football guy, however I am not holding my breath. |
Re: Will Dan Snyder finally fire Vinny Cerrato
Lil Danny Snyder get rid of Look-inna-my-eyz? The two are joined at the .............um............. well let's just say they are joined!
|
Re: Will Dan Snyder finally fire Vinny Cerrato
yeah i think vinny's in trouble too and he'll probably go. but after all this stuff and now the signs... i'm not sure snyder gets it. i don't think he really understands his fans at all. makes me wonder what kinda gm he'll hire, what kind of contract it'll be, and what environment he'll continue to provide. he needs to get it, and right now it seems like he's hunkering down and declaring war.

Re: Will Dan Snyder finally fire Vinny Cerrato
The day Danny fires Vinny, I will party like Harvey Keitel in the Bad Lieutenant.
|
Re: Will Dan Snyder finally fire Vinny Cerrato
This is a great question, and I think there is no question more pertinent to the Skins' future. But the question is, is there any real reason to think Snyder will get rid of Vinny, I mean, besides the fact that it's beyond disputable that he absolutely should? The question is will he? There are a lot of things that Snyder should do that he won't, and that also is beyond disputable. So why will this be any different? Has anyone heard anything from within the organization that would lead to the conclusion that Vinny's neck is on the line? If not, I think it's pretty safe to assume that he'll be around next year, and that it's as likely he'll get a promotion than he'll get fired.
|
Re: Will Dan Snyder finally fire Vinny Cerrato
I truely believe the only reason for Vinny's position is to be a front man for the Danny to be involved in football operations. He's a yesman...he's Dannys Bi*ch. But Danny is also VERY image conscious. It wouldn't surprise me a bit if he has hired some high-priced PR consultant over all this. Once he realizes that people see through the charade, see that the wizard of oz is really the guy behind the curtain, I think he'll get someone who knows football in here. It's been a fantasy team for him up til now, but deep down he's a fan too, as well as a business man. By now he realizes that he's overestimated the loyalty and underestimated the intelligence of his fanbase. And the only way out of this for him now is to bring respect back to the team.
|
Re: Will Dan Snyder finally fire Vinny Cerrato
I think an even more pertinent question is, suppose he doesn't fire Vinny? Then what?

stop that! |
Re: Will Dan Snyder finally fire Vinny Cerrato
I think Vinny won't have the same responsibility he currently has with the Redskins, but it's still possible he'll just be re-assigned within the organization.
Can't verify it, but I heard a rumor that Snyder really laid into Vinny a couple of weeks ago about the state of the team and some of Cerrato's decisions. So if that's true, I suppose it's very possible VC gets canned |

No due to the fact that we are in the middle of the season and Dan himself has not spoken to many OR ANY MEDIA, which is probably smart. He holds the key and the answers, and I'm sure his mind is already made up. Kind of like it is with Zorn IMO. But I have read several things that stood out. BMitch after meeting with Dan mentioned that he thought this was the end for Vinny. One other thing I recall reading was that when Zorn was hired, if things did not work VINNY would be held accountable. I think it's fair to say things are not working out. The interview yesterday with Vinny when he is fumbling words all over the place like he gave Zorn a playoff caliber team to work with...? YES. Was he concerned about his job security, ALWAYS. But I don't worry about those things they will work themselves out in the off season...? I really think he is done. Dan HAS to be smarter than having this guy around ANY LONGER. |

It was funny to watch VC bumble through that interview, wasn't it. Guy is clueless! |
Re: Will Dan Snyder finally fire Vinny Cerrato
Vinny will get the axe, but as has been pointed out he will probably remain with the club in some capacity......like "Vinnie, get my clubs"
|
Re: Will Dan Snyder finally fire Vinny Cerrato
If not, im done. Its too hard to see this team going down each year with no end in sight as long as VC is here.
|
Re: Will Dan Snyder finally fire Vinny Cerrato
Seriously, if he remains with the club they had better give him THE most obscure job. Anything --anything-- remotely close to being involved with decision making and I think fans will be royally pissed.

Thanks SkinFanatic. But the sad, true reality is we have been watching this bumbling idiot for far to long. And yes he is clueless without doubt. |

Re: Will Dan Snyder finally fire Vinny Cerrato
My opinion is Vinny will be canned at the end of the season. Vinny takes full responsibility for putting this team together including the coaching staff.
AS far as keeping him around in another capacity I think that would be a horrible idea - he needs to be fully cut off and no longer part of the Redskins. They need to allow the new GM to take full reigns of the team and let him build it completely without any distractions - and keeping Cerrato around would become a distraction as fans really want him out - this is similar to Matt Millen in Detroit - this bridged is so burned that there is no coming back and you need to fully reorganize from top to bottom. By the way can the boardmasters put a poll up about whether Vinny will be fired at the end of the season? |
Re: Will Dan Snyder finally fire Vinny Cerrato
I wonder what the Redskins' record would be if we had drafted offensive linemen with those three 2nd round draft choices instead of two receives and a tight end two years ago. Of course, we would have had to pay somebody else to make the selections given how Vinny picked Chad Rinehart with a 3rd round draft choice last year. Bugel is not the same coach as he was in the '80's, so we really need to have Russ Grimm back as offensive line coach. Maybe Joe Jacoby, too.

Re: Will Dan Snyder finally fire Vinny Cerrato
Cerrato is simply a cover to allow Snyder to help make personnel decisions for the team. Vinny allows Snyder to continue his own version of fantasy football.
Snyder MAY fire Vinny to take some of the heat off himself. Snyder may be forced to fire Cerrato as a condition of a new Head Coach like Shannihan. Snyder may have to fire Cerrato as a condition of a new GM, if Danny hires one. However bad Cerrato looks to be as a judge of personnel talent in the draft or FA, you've got to remember that Snyder was at least partially involved in that decision. Only with a new GM with 100% control will the "Snyderrato" problem be solved. |
Re: Will Dan Snyder finally fire Vinny Cerrato
Will he fire VC? Yes, Will he hire a good GM? No...
put it down, he is going to hire a patsy yes-man. DS is going to use this season as an excuse to give himself more control over the team, I am expecting us to enter a Raider-esque decline over the next 5-10 years. |
Re: Will Dan Snyder finally fire Vinny Cerrato
I honestly don't think Snyder is currently as heavily involved as some think.
I do think that for the most part, Vinny has been running football ops for the last 2 years. I think yes, Snyder has had some input but again not as much as some think. I think we'll finally see the end of the Vinny "era" in DC after this season. The pressure will be too great, and the embarrassment of a horrid season will be too much for Snyder to stand pat and not make a move. The guy is a mover and a shaker by trade. There's no way that heads aren't rolling after the dust settles on this mess of a season. What happens after that I don't know, we can only pray that someone with half a brain that he trusts is in his ear and he'll make the right call and get a real football guy in here to run the show, and he will finally step 100% out of the way. |
Re: Will Dan Snyder finally fire Vinny Cerrato
What an unusual state the team is in, with the fanbase begging for a rebuilding project and wondering if the owner will oblige? It's usually the otherway around, with the fans not wanting to start over and the owner not wanting to continue to pay big money for an aging team. Given public sentiment, Snyder finds himself in the enviable position of being able to have his cake and eat it. He can cut older players, abstain from free agent signings, and focus on building through the draft while, amazingly, pleasing pretty much everybody! The city would be positively thrilled with a few losing seasons, providing it is young hungry players doing the losing. If he is half the business man we all think he is he will seize this opportunity.

Re: Will Dan Snyder finally fire Vinny Cerrato
Doesn't Snyder go through FO people like toilet paper, with the exception of Vinny's constant presence? I think that reveals heavy-handed involvement by the owner, and it should make it very difficult for him to turn things around. I keep asking the question and ownership apologists don't really have an answer: why would anyone real smart, real good at their job come work for Snyder? Other than his ongoing relationship w/ Gibbs it seems almost universally Snyder burns bridges with the folks who pass through his franchise. And for how many people has working for Snyder's Redskins been a good career move? Is there anyone who can say that?
...my guess is Snyder will always have interest in big names, big personalities, basically anyone or anything that boosts sales. We hear about him trying to catch the big fish all the time. I would also guess those guys are too smart to ever work for Snyder. In fact I'll be suspicious of anyone who takes a job under him cuz it just seems like a dumb thing to do (unless all you care about is the money baby!). |

I don't know but you might want to ask the likes of Scott Campbell, Eric Shaffer, and Morocco Brown. It's not like the cupboard is totally bare when it comes to the front office. There's some quality guys there. |
Re: Will Dan Snyder finally fire Vinny Cerrato
We're probably looking at a 3-13 season. At the beginning, I predicted we would finish at least 12-4. For all the Redskins fans that love Joe Gibbs, he had a big hand in getting us the personnel we have on the roster. I love Joe Gibbs and what he brought to us in 1980 through 1991, but Gibbs needs a Bobby Beathard or a Charley Casserly to get him players. He didn't do too well when he traded draft choices for guys that didn't fit in with the Redskins.
|
Re: Will Dan Snyder finally fire Vinny Cerrato
I think he will fire or reassign Vinny...not becasue he sees the error of his ways but because he sees the outcry and is in the business of selling season tickets.
As I stand over the rubble of the team i have loved my whole life I believe more then ever that Dan Snyder is not a huge Redskins fan like he is portrayed. A Redskins fan would want to win at all costs. Snyder only wants to win his way with his guy in charge. Winning is not enough for him...he needs to win and feed his ego at the same time. There is no way a true Redskins fan would do this. |
Re: Will Dan Snyder finally fire Vinny Cerrato
I think Vinny is gone. There's just too much pressure on DS.
You know on a side note. Why wouldn't Vinny just come out and say that he made a mistake or took a gamble on our line staying healthy this season? He could say that he felft like the 3 2nd rounders in 2008 had tremendous upside and Orakpo was rated so high he couldn't not take him. He puts his foot in his mouth time after time and he's embarrassing himself and the team. There's a way to take blaim and there's a way to defer blaim. He deferred it. |

Re: Will Dan Snyder finally fire Vinny Cerrato
Every time this subject comes up, I'm forever reminded of Snyder's response when asked about the front office structure and his feelings relevant to it's compentency. His reply was "If it ain"t broke, don't fix it".
Therefore, when the question of if/will/when Snyder fire Cerrato arises, the answer to that question will depend on whether anyone can successfully convince him of the fact his system is broken. We've been waiting ten yrs. for him to come to that conclusion but have been met only by resistance. So in essence I would have to say the answer to the question lies in whether there's anyone out there with persuasive powers strong enough to convince him of the fact change is absolutely neccessary. If atempts to accomplish this continue to be met with resistance, we can only expect MOS. |
Re: Will Dan Snyder finally fire Vinny Cerrato
I think there is no way Vinny comes back after this year. If he does, boy, I mean Snyder must really have his head way up his a$$. There is no justifiable reasons of why. I expect new GM and new coaches all the way around. Jerry Grey and Danny Smith are the only two I see who could see hanging around.

Re: Will Dan Snyder finally fire Vinny Cerrato
Vinny is a weasel, and he can't be shown the door soon enough. It's laughable that he publicly stated that Zorn has a playoff caliber roster. The O-line was a disaster waiting to happen, no matter how Vinny and Danny try to spin this situation.

That was a joke, although not a bad position for Vinny (Somehow I think he would find a way to DIRTY up a clean toilet). I think Dan will sever ties completely. No looking back. |

I really feel like the writing is on the wall for Vinny, but what I'd like to see is for him to be booted NOW. It's going to take alot of convincing to get a decent GM to take this job and I'd like to see him in place before the end of the season if possible. |
