Jim Zorn says redskins could pursue L. Johnson
just saw on rotoworld that Jim Zorn said the redskins will have internal discussions about whether to sign Larry Johnson. The skins will pay 2.1 million in waivers to get the disgruntled ex-chief.
This is huge news. They aren't bringing him in, or considering him, to be a backup. This tells me portis' days as the marquee back are coming to an end. And with rumors of the uncapped off-season, Portis could be gone next season... |
Re: Jim Zorn says redskins could pursue L. Johnson
I hope this is not true and that this has no teeth.
First and foremost, I would think that the offensive line needs addressing before adding another tailback. |
Re: Jim Zorn says redskins could pursue L. Johnson
As if Jim Zorn has any say in what the Redskins do. He will only know about it if he reads it on PFT.
|
Re: Jim Zorn says redskins could pursue L. Johnson
i don't think he's coming here. he's got a bad attitude and playing behind this line will only make the locker room worse. no thanks.
|
Re: Jim Zorn says redskins could pursue L. Johnson
Yeah this is not Zorn's call....it has the stinch of Vinny all over it.

Wasnt the same said about Cedric Benson? |
Re: Jim Zorn says redskins could pursue L. Johnson
wow another horrible decision...why am i surprised

Can we still sign away some other teams practice squad lineman and just throw him in there and take a flyer? Maybe if Russell Okung falls into our laps Vinny pulls the trigger but anyhting else I see too many other top players in the top 10 that Vinny would go after like an Eric Berry or one of the qb's. |
Re: Jim Zorn says redskins could pursue L. Johnson
Id take him, then we can have time to work on the oline in the draft instead of going after a RB in this draft to replace CP.
|
Re: Jim Zorn says redskins could pursue L. Johnson
Oh no!!! Didn't we learn anything from the Shaun Alexander and TJ Duckett fiasco. Retread backs are just that...retreads. The rubber will finally come off!
|
Re: Jim Zorn says redskins could pursue L. Johnson
I will officially become a UFL fan if this happens. I'm not even 1% kidding
|
Re: Jim Zorn says redskins could pursue L. Johnson
I'd rather start Betts and Cartwright.
Honestly, what in the hell do they think we will get out of a 30 yo back? 30 yo running. I think that Betts and Cartwright did outstanding yesterday considering our line issues |
Re: Jim Zorn says redskins could pursue L. Johnson
this is not the answer....at all
|
Re: Jim Zorn says redskins could pursue L. Johnson
Betts does great when he is when CP is out, plus he sighned a big contract to stay here.
We dont need LJ, we need to clean house. |

This smells of Vinny or even Snyder. |
Re: Jim Zorn says redskins could pursue L. Johnson
Nah, let me know when a young good OLman is available though...

According to Zorn, Portis does not even remember the play it happened on. CP is already listed as doubtful for next weeks game. That and Ladell Betts has a sprained ankle. That is Zorns reasoning for looking to add another RB. According to the AP report, the Redskins are looking to add a safety and an running back. So the million dollar question is, if they sign 2 players, who goes to IR or gets released to make room? If LJ is signed, someone has to go. Re: Jim Zorn says redskins could pursue L. Johnson
I'd rather bring back Alridge if we need a short term back for the roster.
|
Re: Jim Zorn says redskins could pursue L. Johnson
Meh i still think Betts and Rock running yesterday proved that we can run with a good rb, it's not all the lines fault. The play that Portis got hurt was the perfect example of why he is just as much to blame for the Skins not being effective in the run game. He's got a big hole, holding the ball with both hands and has no burst or balance. He's out and suddenly we can get 4 yards on first down which completely opened up the offense.
On that note, Larry's got a lot of baggage and adequate rb's are a dime a dozen. Bring back the young rb's we dropped. |
Re: Jim Zorn says redskins could pursue L. Johnson
On a team with a good OL I think LJ could still be effective, but his off the field baggage right now makes him untouchable.
And to claim him off waivers when it's very unlikely anyone else is going to touch him at that $2M tag is absurd. |
Re: Jim Zorn says redskins could pursue L. Johnson
I don't know how much more I can take of this.. It's going to be hard for me to really LOVE my skins anymore after this season, especially if we bring in a PUNKASS BITCH like LJ when we are 2-6!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think we have had a revolving door at spots 51-53, so I can't imagine that would change. Paluesco would go for a few days, come back if hunter still hurts. Man we have had so many roster changes at the 52nd and 53rd spot, I can't remember which guys are there now. But you are right someone would be gone. |

If I had to guess, you shut Chris Horton, Mike Williams or Chris Cooley down (or all 3) to make the necessary roster moves. Larry Johnson is not the answer (cost is too high), but if both Portis and Betts can't go, you're looking at Cartwright and Sellars getting the carries. So you look at re-signing Aldridge or Ganther (or both if you can swing it). The Skins have a safety on their practice squad, but between Landry, Moore and Doughty, they'd be ok for a week or so. |

I agree. Alridge, Mason, Dorsey, or even Ganther are familiar with the system and the terminology. LJ is no longer a 1,700 yard back. I don't understand the attraction of LJ when we have other acceptable options. |

If we do sign LJ, at least wait to make a better deal. I am reminded of Erasmus James, on whom we spent a 7th pick when the Vikes were going to cut him anyway. |
Re: Jim Zorn says redskins could pursue L. Johnson
Why? Who is going to block for him?
|
Re: Jim Zorn says redskins could pursue L. Johnson
According to the Twitter of ryanohalloran
Per source, #Redskins have no interest in Larry Johnson. |
Re: Jim Zorn says redskins could pursue L. Johnson
Umm, what happened to the big RB/FB we picked up when Samuels went out? If they need a power runner why not bring him up from the PS and use him?
|
Re: Jim Zorn says redskins could pursue L. Johnson
portis, betts, rock, aldrige, mason, dorsey, gathers, are we trying to set a record for most backs on team in a year wtf
|

Me too, but I'm sure it has something to do with blocking knowledge or something. Instead though they would rather bring someone on board who has no knowledge of the Skins play calls and blocking scheme and let him sit a few games to learn like Levi Jones. |

me too also,I would absolutely frickin love it if they resigned Aldridge and gave him at the very least 10 carries in a game.I want to see somebody with some speed! |
Re: Jim Zorn says redskins could pursue L. Johnson
Awesome more guys with character issues. I sware this reign of terror should be dubbed Spurrier 2.0.

This is what we need... Didn't Betts just have a better day than Portis has all year?

I think that Betts and Cartwright did outstanding yesterday considering our line issues
Betts without the fumbles is just as good or better than Portis at this point. Rock isn't a slouch either. Larry Johnson is indeed washed up and wouldn't do any better than Portis behind this line either. |
This is what we need... Didn't Betts just have a better day than Portis has all year?
Well rumor has it Betts hurt his ankle. Portis played the kid who is afraid to ask for his bike back in the movie Friday and "got knocked the Fxxx out". Horton "who hears a who" inured his wittle toe. So now the team is looking into other options at RB and Safety. Not sure what they will do with Big Mike out for 3-4 weeks and Heyer is banged up. I still say they would be better off bringing in a bunch of O-lineman who are young and healthy and find a way to get them on the field. |
Re: Jim Zorn says redskins could pursue L. Johnson
The move would be a total waste of money. You would be better served in drafting a low rounder RB than acquiring Johnson.
|
Re: Jim Zorn says redskins could pursue L. Johnson
I don't understand why we are so pressed at the RB position? Portis, Betts, Cartwright, Alridge, Mason... Then no Mason. Now LJ? This is like the RB carousel. Is Zorn is channeling Spurrier lately?
I would think that Zorn and the FO would try to address.. Oh I don't know.. Maybe our laughably bad O-Line? JC is busy having happy feet and trying to keep his head attached to his neck and the Skins are worried about signing a RB? Welcome to the real life version of Madden... Except with less winning. |

Too bad I couldn't hook up my cpu with my old madden '98 with some football player dolls like in Weird Science. I picked up a young FA QB from Philly called P. Harry. Broke every record in the book with that guy. Just drafted WRs with speed of 92+ and just aired it out. Guy made Drew Brees look like a bum. |
Re: Jim Zorn says redskins could pursue L. Johnson
This team smells worse than my farts right about now.....I'd rather pick up Maurice Clarrett fresh outta jail than LJ
