re: (Update) Bills Fire Jauron; Plan to Speak with Shanahan
I knew i shouldnt have cut Chambers from my fantasy team :(
I thought Jauron would at least survive the season. |
re: (Update) Bills Fire Jauron; Plan to Speak with Shanahan
So should we bring Jauron in as defensive coordinator next year?
|
re: (Update) Bills Fire Jauron; Plan to Speak with Shanahan
No offense but...
Tell me Jauron doesn't look like Skeletor... When he's angry on the sidelines, The Power of GreySkull is the only thing I can think about. |
re: (Update) Bills Fire Jauron; Plan to Speak with Shanahan
before i click on the link or hear bowe's side of it. im guessin hes gonna say he took an over the counter substance (for a cold or allergies) that didnt list the banned substance but just so happens to be a concealant for some type of PED.
i dont know if this excuse is still used that much anymore since the whole spirit of the zero tolerance policy is to not allow this type of excuse to have merit. |
re: (Update) Bills Fire Jauron; Plan to Speak with Shanahan
I mentioned it several weeks ago, but I still think that Cleveland and Buffalo are likely landing spots for Holmgren.
The new rumor is that he and Lerner are talking but I wouldn't be surprised to see the Bills make a run at him as well to turn around their organization. Bruce Allen has been mentioned in Buffalo as well. |
re: (Update) Bills Fire Jauron; Plan to Speak with Shanahan
im not sure what analyst or expert said it but he said the teams that make moves now (fire your coach, gm etc) are going to be first in line to hire the few good options avail for next year. right now, the DS and vinny cant really talk with the likes of gruden or shanahan while zorn is still our HC.
|
re: (Update) Bills Fire Jauron; Plan to Speak with Shanahan
Sucks for Jauron but he was a dead man walking. Jauron is a good football man even though his record doesn't show it.

Hopefully Vinny is not talking to anyone since he will be next out the door. And Snyder can talk to anyone as long as he keeps it on the down low. Formally interviewing someone would be different, though. |
re: (Update) Bills Fire Jauron; Plan to Speak with Shanahan
so does this make the buffalo owner a bad owner for firing his coach in the middle of the season?
and how much is ad space on buffalo buses? |

re: (Update) Bills Fire Jauron; Plan to Speak with Shanahan
Brian Billick had a saying on NFL Network "If its inevitable then it needs to be eminent" Id have to say that applies to us in so many ways.
I couldnt understand how Buffalo went out and got one of the best deep threat wrs in the league and then traded their OT, and not only that but he didnt make any moves for a replacement. You cant go deep if your QB is on his arse. |
re: (Update) Bills Fire Jauron; Plan to Speak with Shanahan
It needs to be eminent...or imminent?

I doubt if he's even in Buffalo next year. |
re: (Update) Bills Fire Jauron; Plan to Speak with Shanahan
This sucks, i had Bowe on my fantasy team. He wasn't great, but was consistant.
|
re: (Update) Bills Fire Jauron; Plan to Speak with Shanahan
Plus the Bills fired their OC just as the season began.

Indeed.. Some coaches are meant to be coordinators not Head Coaches and Dick Jauron is one of them. Kevin Gilbride and Norv turner are excellent examples also. Coaches who excel as offensive coordinators but fail miserably as Head Coaches. Dick Jauron won't have any trouble finding a job as someone's defensive coordinator next season. |

I wonder if that's true of Gregg Williams. Up until recently, Nolan seemed to be a good defensive coordinator in Denver after stinking it up in San Fran. |
re: (Update) Bills Fire Jauron; Plan to Speak with Shanahan
i thought Nolan sucked when he was here

Well, the billboards worked I guess.

re: (Update) Bills Fire Jauron; Plan to Speak with Shanahan
I thought jauron did a great job in buffalo. He got that team to play hard & competitive even though they lacked talent, especially on the O. They can't keep good players there, no one seems to want to stay in small & cold buffalo.
They gave good teams a fight under Jauron. I really don't see them getting better this year. |

Plus, he doesn't pay well and you're talking about living in Buffalo in the winter time Nonetheless...Sources: Buffalo Bills contract Mike Shanahan about coaching opening - ESPN |
re: (Update) Bills Fire Jauron; Plan to Speak with Shanahan
If Shanahan meets with Buffalo, its only to increase his asking price. Right now, he is - by far - the best guy who will be on the open market and he knows it. He'll command atleast 7MM a year and no way Wilson would pay that.
|
re: (Update) Bills Fire Jauron; Plan to Speak with Shanahan
I'd be absolutely stunned if Shanahan went to Buffalo.

re: (Update) Bills Fire Jauron; Plan to Speak with Shanahan
found this on ESPN Rumors
But might the Bills take a look to their rich AFL history to select the next head man? Several pundits -- including AFC East blogger Tim Graham -- have suggested that the team may go with Marty Schottenheimer, who was dumped by the Chargers after leading them to a 14-2 record in the 2007 season, and who played for the Bills in the 1960's. An interesting angle to the Schottenheimer hire would be that it would open the door for him to hire his son, Brian Schottenheimer, as offensive coordinator -- a reverse of what Lane Kiffin did at the University of Tennessee in hiring his pops as the defensive coordinator. Brian was considered a leading candidate to take over as head coach of the New York Jets following the ouster of Eric Mangini, but the team eventually hired Rex Ryan, which did not sit well with Schottenheimer at the time. Going further with this hypothetical, we could foresee the Schottenheimers setting up a progression plan in Buffalo, where Marty would coach for a set period, then the team could have an easy transition to Brian |

I mean maybe this way their wives could work together on the whole making people aware campaign together. All Danny would have to do is sit in the box and eat hot dogs and popcorn and enjoy the 14-2 seasons and see play off births again. I know what your gunna say about Marty but atleast with a winning season we have a chance at the playoffs and SB. |
Re: (Update) Bills Fire Jauron; Plan to Speak with Shanahan
I just don't see Marty coming back here. He and Danny may have kissed and made up but is Marty dumb enough to come back and work with him again, knowing what he knows from the first time around? Personally I really doubt it.

Shanahan said he would not take over for Zorn mid season cause it would not change anything. I imagine he would tell the Bills the same thing. Unless he really thinks that is the place for him right off the bat. Other wise I can see him waiting for the off season which is a little more then a month away and see what other opportunities are out there. Instead of commiting to the Bills now and a better situation becomes available later...like the Skins, Dallas, Tennessee, San Diego. Would he be interested in Carolina, Cleveland, dare I say Oakland? |

I don't know. I doubt it also but I hold out high hopes. I like to think if all the other HC's Danny likes are turning him down; Cowher, Shanahan, Holmgren, and Gruden, maybe Danny will see that whole sale change needs to happen. He fires VC. I would like to think that the Schottenheimer plan would be a great idea. He would have them to dinner and talk about Marty being HC/GM and his son being Asst. HC/OC. Then Marty has what he wanted all along, he could slowly transition to the GM roll and his son could transition to the HCing roll. Danny gets what he wants in a qualified HC and possibly GM, a team that would get turned around quickly like the first time and start having winning seasons. Possibly 14-2 like seasons. Fans would be over joyed at Danny for doing the right thing. |
Re: (Update) Bills Fire Jauron; Plan to Speak with Shanahan
I know people don't like PFT but they bring up some good points.
Bills' head start could force Snyder's hand | ProFootballTalk.com Especially the whole $7mill owed Shanahan by the Bronco's at the end of the story. I can see the Skins or Dallas paying that or more. |
Re: (Update) Bills Fire Jauron; Plan to Speak with Shanahan
I'd be shocked if Shanahan agreed to anything before the season is over and he has a chance to weigh all his options. I don't see this Buffalo talk as forcing anybody's hand. Plus it's Buffalo we're talking about, not exactly the most attractive job in the league.
