McCardell goes to San Diego

Tampa traded him to San Diego for what looks like 2 draft picks a third and seventh rounder. Here is the article.

I actually think SD gave up too much to get him. SD won't even make the playoffs this year and McCardell is like 33 years old. He did have a good season last year but I wouldn't expect anything from him anymore.

bridaman51 10-19-2004 04:11 PM

I think they did this because they know that Caldwell aint coming back this year.

SmootSmack 10-19-2004 04:19 PM

A 3rd and a 6th does seem pretty steep.

Riggo44 10-19-2004 04:22 PM

S.D is really not that bad this year. I think McCardell will really help tham alot. Watch out for S.D!!!

MTK 10-19-2004 04:24 PM

damn, not being able to get into my fantasy league stuff here at work really blows

SmootSmack 10-19-2004 04:32 PM

San Diego just picked up Bobby Shaw as well.

bridaman51 10-19-2004 04:39 PM

yeah I nabbed him in the warpath free 2 league and need help a WR so hopefully he can turn it on quickly.

Are you sure, because I just grabbed him. What's your team name?

Not when you consider we gave up a second (we had to trade a 2nd to get Cooley who we could have gotten if we still had our 3rd rounder last year which was traded to get Brunell) to get Brunell at 34 y.o. for a cheap $43 million.

Sheriff Gonna Getcha 10-19-2004 05:26 PM

Just so everyone knows, we'd definately be able to keep Smoot next year for the kind of money we shelled out for Brunell.

bridaman51 10-19-2004 05:35 PM

maybe it is the wrong league i named but i am the FA-King great team

Think there was a little spite on the part of TB here?

Ok, so you won't play for us this year, so we'll send you out to SD where you can deal with Marty Schottenheimer.

That Guy 10-19-2004 10:59 PM

SD is gonna win more games and pay more better than TB would... if it was out of spite, he'll get the last laugh...

MTK 10-20-2004 08:51 AM

SD had to make a move since Caldwell got hurt. TB just got lucky that a team desperate enough finally came along. 2 picks seems like way too much to give up for a guy who might not be able to be much of an impact this year. Plus SD has said they will not re-work his contract, so the Chargers could be in the same boat that Tampa was in next year, unless McCardell finally wises up and realizes his name isn't Moss or Owens.

That Guy 10-20-2004 09:30 AM

he still got 1,180 yards last year...

bridaman51 10-20-2004 01:16 PM

If he performs like he did last year SD may not pay him like Moss or Owens but they will probably put a little extra coin in his pocket.

If my memory is correct, both Albert Connell and Michael Westbrook had 1k+ yard seasons in 99. This doesn't mean they're 'elite' though. Good receivers, but ones you could live w/out if need be.

Looks like TB is developing an excellent receiver in Clayton now, anyway.

yikes, i never said or meant to imply elite... he just aint it, just saying that he ain't total crap, and SD could definately benefit from having him. and TB got a nice deal out of it too... seems TB's main problem was its old QB, not the entire offense... their D isn't nearly as good as it was a couple years back, and their O isn't good enough to win shoot outs, but they seem to have gone from miserable to respectable (even if they're not very good).

Riggo44 10-20-2004 07:33 PM

S.D has actually scored more points then any team in the league! Who would have guessed that? They might still be around in Dec. I doubt it but they might! :twocents:
