Welcome to the NFL Devin Thomas
Just thought DT's play today was worthy of it's own thread. Seems like we've been waiting forever for this guy to finally break out. Nice to see those 2nd rounders contributing, Davis and Kelly were also in the mix again today. There's some hope for the future when it comes to the team's young play-makers.

Re: Welcome to the NFL Devin Thomas
Even Mitchell had a catch today...and Barnes got some action at DB
Thomas was beast today not only at WR but on kick returns too. |
Re: Welcome to the NFL Devin Thomas
I agree. Thomas was scary good today. Where has he been?
|
Re: Welcome to the NFL Devin Thomas
DT has really come on and I like his aggressive attitude on the field. He definitely had his coming out party today. A real bright spot for this team.
|
Re: Welcome to the NFL Devin Thomas
The kid has a huge upside. He is the Redskins version of DeSean Jackson or Percy Harvin, just not as explosive...yet. His picture should replace the one of Landry in the Warpath banner on the top of the page.
|
Re: Welcome to the NFL Devin Thomas
I was impressed that DT picked the Saints game to step it up so much. Although he's not yet a big-time player, his performance evoked the "big-time players make big-time plays in big games" saying for me.
|
Re: Welcome to the NFL Devin Thomas
I hope he continues this effort so we can trade Kelly at the end of the year.
|
Re: Welcome to the NFL Devin Thomas
Big ups to Devin Thomas.
|
Re: Welcome to the NFL Devin Thomas
I was telling my son during DT's first catch today " he's the future" so every catch he had my son would call him future. I thoyght it was funny but, a bit 8 mile-ish.
|
Re: Welcome to the NFL Devin Thomas
Huge props to DT stay focused

There are quite a few around here that would agree.. LOL |

Why wouldn't you rather see both Thomas and Kelly develop? |
Re: Welcome to the NFL Devin Thomas
In addition to being a bigger part of the pass game I feel like I always see him trying to make down field blocks when someone else has the ball, which is huge! Glad to see him contributing.
|
Re: Welcome to the NFL Devin Thomas
I feel like Zorn's passing game plans always had Moss and Cooley as the first two options. Campbell was usually getting hit early in the season before he could get to his third progression on any given play. This to me is a big reason why first Kelly, then Thomas didn't start to contribute until after Cooley went out. Since Sherman Lewis arrived, Campbell seems to be spreading the ball much better. It's clear now that Thomas had the ability to do this, but until recently, he was lucky to get one ball thrown his way per game.

He saved a TD in coverage on a punt return today too, and his KO returns look solid. He's a jack of all trades right now, and playing very well. If he does materialize as our #1 by the start of next year, I won't want him returning kickoffs. |
Re: Welcome to the NFL Devin Thomas
Nice to see Thomas play a solid game. I hope this is a preview of things to come!
He does some nice stuff after the catch too. |
Re: Welcome to the NFL Devin Thomas
Im very encouraged by this, but am taking this with a grain of salt considering the saints top 3 corners were out, and thomas probably had the 5th or 6th cover DB on him most of the time
|
Re: Welcome to the NFL Devin Thomas
Like I said, all our 2nd rounders are now producing as they should, now let's rebuild the OL and next year we'll in the hunt and beyond. Just wait till Mitchell starts to produce, then that will be scary.
|
Re: Welcome to the NFL Devin Thomas
Lewis should take a quick peek at Wisehunt's playbook; he needs to move Thomas around more, just like Wisehunt does with Anquan Boldin.. Thomas would flourish much more..
On other hand, Thomas had his best game today! He definitely helped Redskins to stay competitive against Saints.. |
Re: Welcome to the NFL Devin Thomas
Man it was awesome to Thomas work his stuff out there. I can't figure him out tho: is he really fast or just getting better at creating separation?

He's fast but I think the difference is he can PLAY fast now. He doesn't have to think as much now that he seems to be "getting it". He was outstanding today and has shown the kind of aggression the last couple of weeks that is inspiring. |
Re: Welcome to the NFL Devin Thomas
Yes, I was happy for him. Glad he finally had a good day. My question is I thought he (DT) was supposed to be as fast as Moss? He took the Kick Off and ran into his own man then kicked it to the other side and got tackled. I thought he should have been able to out run the Saints player. DT really didn't look like he was running very fast.
Maybe I'm thinking about Eloi and if so they need to get his arse developed also. It was just one of those times I wished we had Alridge or Dorsey who both would have been up the field for a TD. |
Re: Welcome to the NFL Devin Thomas
I loved that we took advantage of his ability but let's remember he was out there beating guys who were on the streets 5 weeks ago.
Also, For a supposedly 4.4 guy he wasn't flying by guys on kickoff returns. But like someone said early, We should use him in an Anquan Boldin way and let him make plays with his strength. Good job by him today. |
Re: Welcome to the NFL Devin Thomas
Major props.

Yep.. and Zorn stated that Thomas' routes were often just to occupy a defender and open up other receivers. Thomas showed promise (heh) in both Philly games and in the Denver game, but never got more than 3 or 4 touches a game. Double his touches, double his production. He needs to be seeing the ball 7 times EVERY game if the D isn't shutting him down completely. |

Saints had those guys on the Pats last week. |
Re: Welcome to the NFL Devin Thomas
Thomas played awesome today. I am not sure why they thought to only use him as a distraction route before, but hopefully they don't go back to that. if only there was a time in the season that i could pin point where the play calling went from ridiculous to some what descent .
|
Re: Welcome to the NFL Devin Thomas
kid was straight ballin. i was especially impressed with his kick coverage skills. he ALWAYS stayed in his lane. saving the possibility of a couple of long runs by the saints
|
Re: Welcome to the NFL Devin Thomas
Dt reminds me alot of ocho cinco when he first came into the league.. Not blazing speed but just enough. And both guys are very good route runners and of course smack talkers lol
|
Re: Welcome to the NFL Devin Thomas
DT played great. Towards the end of the game they were providing over the top help for him instead of Moss... thought we didn't take advantage of that last drive, could have tried a "Slantana" near the end zone to seal it instead of the 3 straight runs.
|
Re: Welcome to the NFL Devin Thomas
Good thread. I'm real happy for DT. He catches the ball when it's thrown to him and he runs over people. Makes things happen. Same thing w/ Davis too. Kelly seems to make a couple plays a game too.

He runs in the 4.3 - 4.4 range, he's fast. The Saints player just had a good angle on the kickoff. |
Re: Welcome to the NFL Devin Thomas
I also think it's only a matter of time before DT breaks one on a kickoff too.
|
Re: Welcome to the NFL Devin Thomas
I think it's coming down to confidence and maturity. I think DT has both. Now I want to see him do it again and again. But no question he's starting to see the light. Great game yesterday DT!!
|
Re: Welcome to the NFL Devin Thomas
dt showed me alot yesterday and has been showing more and more each game, when they announced that he was over 100 yards receiving the stadium went nuts, i think everyone really loves this kid and wants to see him get in his groove, he is really starting to win me over and i hope he keeps moving in the right direction.
and as a side note i think he might have more heart and want than alot of guys because he is startig to really shine while there isn't even a chance of a winning season |

He also reminds me of Brandon Marshall (except he doesn't seem to be a dick) in his speed/size/tackle breaking abilities. Next year could be a nice breakout season for him. |
Re: Welcome to the NFL Devin Thomas
I remember early on, Zorn saying how kickoffs helped DT get his head in the game early, BUT Zorn wanted him to develop without that crutch (paraphrase). It is interesting that now that DT is more involved in the kickoffs, his in game WR numbers are improving as well. Not sure if the two are related, and/or if now that he is getting into it, he won't need the KO duty to get his focus right.

When I saw that play the first thing I said was that DT doesn't trust his speed yet. I think he probably could have beat him in a dead sprint... but just hesitated ever so slightly, and in the NFL you can't hesitate or the plays dead. Crazy props to my man DT, he's really shown up...and we've needed our receivers to step up. Glad to see it finally working. He looks like he could be the read deal. |
Re: Welcome to the NFL Devin Thomas
Thomas has really stepped up. Not only is he getting balls thrown his way but he is providing good hands, which the Redskins need. We don't seem to have many on offense or defense. I also really like the way Thomas and TE Fred Davis fight for the extra yards after the catch. Quite refreshing. Are we seeing Thomas emerge into a significant wide receiver threat?
