Top Redskins Moments of the Decade
I figure this is something a little bit different as Dasel and I were discussing sports on AIM kind of along these lines....
What is your top and worst Redskins "moment" of the past decade? My Best: Even though we've been pretty bad overall, theres alot of good memories from the decade, Moss's TD in 08 against Saints, His TD in the playoffs @ Seattle, Monday Night Miracle, Portis' first touch against Tampa, ST's touchdown in Philly... but I dont think I've ever had a "moment" when I absolutley lost my shit like when we beat Dallas at FedEx in 2006. I've just never seen the Redskins pull something out of their ass like they did against Dallas at that game to block the feild goal, have Sean Taylor return it and Novak win it... even though the game was pretty much meaningless overall, it was a moment I'll never forget. Worst: Losing to the Bills after Gibbs double time out in the Sean Taylor game. I've had plenty of moments when I've been just irate at the team, but I couldnt really be too mad that week given the events, but I really never felt lower as a fan... |
Re: Top Redskins Moments of the Decade
Best Moment: Too many, Moss's 2 Touchdowns to beat Dallas in the Monday Night Miracle, Sean Taylor's touchdown against Philly, the blocked Field goal was great too against Dallas.
Worst Moment: Losing to the Bucs with a 13-0 halftime lead 14-13 which would of put us in the NFC Championship. I actually cried after losing that game when we botched the 52 yard attempt to win it. Ahh that game still hurts. |
Re: Top Redskins Moments of the Decade
That Bucs playoff game was in 1999-2000 season. Sorry. I did love beating them back in 05.
Another horrible moment: Suisham missing the 36 yarder to put us even more ahead against Seattle in the playoffs couldn't believe it.. |
Re: Top Redskins Moments of the Decade
Nice thread. I was thinking of starting one called 5 most memorable games
Best moment had to be, for me, Gibbs' return. Worst-losing Sean Taylor On the field. I have to think about it |
Re: Top Redskins Moments of the Decade
best has to be the moss monday night miracle, everyone had passed out i was the only one awake to see first pass and i started screamin and woke everybody up that game was awesome
worst has to be the loss to the bills after st21 died, that game sucked from every aspect |
Re: Top Redskins Moments of the Decade
Favorite Moment: Either Monday Night Miracle or the 2006 home win vs the Boys
Least Favorite: Losing Sean Taylor.. if it has to be on the field I agree with the Bills game after his passing |

Two of the most significant events in Redskins history to me. On the field, it's hard to say, I'm torn between the Monday night miracle and the home game where Cooley scored like, 3 TD's against the Cowgirls to show it was no fluke, we kicked their ass! The worse? It's still to close to last Monday nights game to make a rational decision. Probably losing to Seattle after knocking Alexander out of the game. I thought we had that one for sure. |
Re: Top Redskins Moments of the Decade
Best: The monday night miracle
Worst:The Bills game after Sean Taylor's death. Between the ST tribute video and the way we lost made that day a terrible memory. |
Re: Top Redskins Moments of the Decade
Best- Going way back the hit that Lavar Arrington had on Troy Aik(myhead)man.
Worst- The untimely death of Sean Taylor RIP you will always be missed!! |
Re: Top Redskins Moments of the Decade
Monday Night Miracle. Nothing else comes remotely close, not even the playoff win later that season. It's still one of the best moments of the decade (the win over the Bucs), but I've never been so happy to be a Redskin fan over the past decade as I had been on that Monday Night. Some other moments, in no particular order.
- Clinton Portis first run as a Redskin - The second game against the Cowboys in 2005. - The return of Joe Gibbs. - The 6-2 start in 2008 - The trade down with the Falcons in the 2008 draft (the picks made afterwards qualified for one of the worst moments of the decade). - The resignation of Vinny Cerrato and hiring of Bruce Allen (I'd say give him a noble peace prize, God knows he meets all the criteria plus the murder rate in DC is expected to drop over the course of the next year.) - The 2005 and 2007 playoff runs - Blocking the last minute field goal from Dallas in 2006. -10 men on the field. - Gibbs challenging 12 men on the field against the Vikings in 2007. Worst Momement - Loosing to the Cowboys on Thanksgiving when Danny Wurfel was the QB. I've never felt so hopeless and embarrassed as a Redskin fan. Come to think of it the loss to Detroit this year was pretty close. Off the field though the answer is easily the death of Sean Taylor. [YT]C-3b6LZKMkU[/YT] |
Re: Top Redskins Moments of the Decade
the 5 in a row playoff run. and Gibbs coming back. sports have never made me cry. but when i heard the old man was coming back, it was close
|
Re: Top Redskins Moments of the Decade
Among the worst on the field moments was that horrible 2001 MNF game against the Cowboys when we blew the lead on a Davis fumble. And Suisham's missed field goal after a great special teams play against Seattle which turned the tide in what should have been a playoff win for us

I really wanted to put this as my worst moment... because Sean Taylor was still heavy on my mind watching this game... and we looked like garbage for 3 quarters, then just exploded for 14 points before you could even blink (Moss's TD where he put up the 21 Salute is one of my favorite Skins' moments of all time, I mean the emotion you could feel in my basemetn with everyone watching the game right there was surreal, never had anything like it)...then we had the feild goal play and we were going in to win... and as soon as Suisham missed that, you could just feel it was over.. then we got blown out. Its hard to back it up based on the score being 21 points, but if he makes that, we win the game, we beat Dallas. There is not a doubt in my mind. I dont know that we would have won the NFC Championship or Super Bowl, but alot of my hatred for Suisham comes from that miss and the fact that I think it was so much more than 3 points. |

I dont know if I'd be able to watch football again. |

:laughing2 Ha-ha. I'm glad I'm not the only one. Man it is so hard to explain that feeling when it was announced Gibbs was coming back. It was like, finally, all this pain of being embarrassed and losing to the Cowgirls every year is over. It was relief and exhilaration wrapped up in one. :food-smil |
Re: Top Redskins Moments of the Decade
best game hands down was the monday night comeback brunell to moss over the cowboys.
|
Re: Top Redskins Moments of the Decade
No particular order...
Best: - Gibbs' return. - Ring of Horror game. - Beating the Giants (eventual champs) in the Meadowlands with Todd Collins sending us on a roll to the playoffs in 2007. One of the gutsiest wins after the ST fiasco. - Gibbs' challenge and the Vikes game in 2007. - ST and the Eagles game in 2005. - Bucs playoff game in 2005. - Blocked kick Dallas game in 2006. - Portis' opening run. - Beating Dallas and Philly back-to-back on the road in 2008. - Cerrato's resignation. Worst: - Gibbs' retirement. - ST's death. - The Buffalo game. - Los dropping the sure pick-6 in the 1st Seattle playoff game. - Suisham missing the field goal in the 2nd Seattle playoff game. - 2001 debacle with Dallas when Davis fumbled. One of the ugliest games ever. - 45-12 drubbing to Giants in 2009. - Loss to Lions in 2009. - The Dallas game in 2003 when Spurrier and Roy Williams almost killed Ramsey. Note - I didn't include the Bucs playoff loss cuz it was part of the 90s but that was pretty bad. Still haven't forgiven the Turk brothers or Norv. One more first down and we make that field goal and go to the NFC championship, but Norv played it like a wimp. |
Re: Top Redskins Moments of the Decade
Best: Blocked field goal by Troy Vincent, return by Sean Taylor, and the winning field goal made by Nick Novak against the Cowboys. I almost had a heart attack.
Worst: Sean Taylor's passing...I remember being half asleep and feeling like I was punched in the stomach when I heard the news. Worst On-Field: The beating we got from New England when f'ing Belichick ran up the score on us. |

Lol... forgot that one. Fckn Belichek, he's up 40 pts on us and he's running 4 WR sets... |
Re: Top Redskins Moments of the Decade
You guys stole all my thunder. Someone has already mentioned everything I was going to say. I guess it just proves we we definately watching the same games. Maybe I'll think of something I'm forgetting right now.

Re: Top Redskins Moments of the Decade
The Monday night game is the one we will still be talking about in 20 years. Other great moments for me were the five game run in 05 (all of it, from the squeaker in AZ with Antonio Brown blowing kisses to the crowd on a runback, to the beatdowns of Dallas and the Giants at Fedex) as well as the 06 Dallas game.
Here's hoping that this next decade has a lot more great memories to choose from. |
Re: Top Redskins Moments of the Decade
1. Beating the crap out of Dallas during the 5 game win streak that put us in the playoffs in '05. Every expert picked Dallas, and they had no answer for Cooley that day as our boys sprinted to a 35-0 lead in front of a delirious home crowd.
2. Stealing the game at Dallas early in 2005 with two LONG Brunell to Moss TDs in the last 4 minutes to turn a 13-0 deficit into a shocking 14-13 victory 3. Stealing another from Dallas in 2006, this time at home - the Troy Vincent block of Dallas game winning FG, returned by Sean Taylor, followed by Nick Novak winning FG on the next play (I attended this game!) 4. Sean Taylor clinching the 2005 playoff birth with his scoop and score at Philly, capped with his iconic dive into the end zone. 5. Todd Collins leading us on a 4 game win streak to the 2007 playoffs after being devastated by Sean Taylor's death and the brutal loss at home vs. Buffalo. |
Re: Top Redskins Moments of the Decade
Best Moment: You know at first thought you think it would be difficult to narrow it down to one but it has to be Brunell to Moss for the two late touchdowns for us to win, what was it 14-13? That was unbelievable...to give coach Joe Gibbs that win and to beat Dallas in Dallas in that fashion.
Worst Moment: I don't know why but for some reason, the worst experience I have ever had as a Skins fan was the beating we took from New England 52-7. That was just embarrassing, the Pats pulled their second stringers on us and still scored at will...I have hated Belichick's guts from that day on. EDIT: haha I just went back and read some of the posts and both of these have been mentioned multiple times, sorry for the redundancy |
Re: Top Redskins Moments of the Decade
The beat down we put on the Niners in Japan. That's when I knew Shane Matthews to Derrius Thompson was the truth and Spurrier had arrived
|

That actually was one of my favorite plays too.. 06 was a miserable season but at least provided some good memories (Moss vs Jags, Dallas miracle, Cooley TD in Campbells first home game) ... not like this year, where its just a miserable season and there are next to zero positives.... ... honest to god, when looking back on 2009, the only thing I think I'll remember fondly is our fake punt/feild goal Sellers TD vs Denver. |

As bad as that season was, at least there were some joyful wins. I can't think of a win that brought me that type of joy this year. Just an all around miserable season that I can't wait to forget. |
