If the season ended today Washington would pick 5th, and Cleveland would pick 6th!! (2004 Sean Taylor).
Remember the 2004 Draft where Washington picked Sean Taylor with the 5th pick and Cleveland pick Kellen Winslow with the 6th. I found this to be sort of eerie. What impact player should we take if the scenario stayed the same?

trade down for more pics

Re: If the season ended today Washington would pick 5th, and Cleveland would pick 6th!! (2004 Sean Taylor).
id trade down. i dont think okung or trent williams is good enough to be a top 5 pick personally. id trade down, get a lineman that has true value at the pick, and get some more picks along the way. it shouldnt be too hard to trade down as long as clausen or bradford are still on the board at the time.

Re: If the season ended today Washington would pick 5th, and Cleveland would pick 6th!! (2004 Sean Taylor).
Clausen, Suh, and Okung still probably gone at this this point. Ideally trading down would be great and pick RT Trent Williams.

See there's one bright spot to the redskins' miserable record and season - position for the next draft.
I hate to say it, but this is the only time that I hope that the redskins lose in the past several seasons. I hope they perform well, but still lose by like 1-3 points. |
Re: If the season ended today Washington would pick 5th, and Cleveland would pick 6th!! (2004 Sean Taylor).
Why is that eerie? Washington and Cleveland have been, for the past decade, part of the bottom third of the league. It was bound to happen that they would get early picks and occasionally line up.

Re: If the season ended today Washington would pick 5th, and Cleveland would pick 6th!! (2004 Sean Taylor).
5th pick would be good. We'd have options to trade down most likely. I'll root for a win this Sunday, but I won't be upset about another loss. We should get the opportunity to draft a stud olineman or trade down for another pick in the 2nd or 3rd.
I believe if we win we may slide down in the draft order a couple/few spots. SD has no reason to play their starters either. Unfortunately for us their backups are better than our backups most likely. |
Re: If the season ended today Washington would pick 5th, and Cleveland would pick 6th!! (2004 Sean Taylor).
Is this for sure? Because I thought it was Cleveland 5th and Redskins 6th?

If okung is gone but bradford is there I say take Bradford, IMO he's going o be to good to pass up

Re: If the season ended today Washington would pick 5th, and Cleveland would pick 6th!! (2004 Sean Taylor).
We certainly have more than one need, all of which cannot be met in one offseason. The FO thinking should be driven by what to do about the QB position, and how to fix the O-line. I would trade down in an effort to get more picks, being careful not to neglect our most glaring weaknesses in the process.

Re: If the season ended today Washington would pick 5th, and Cleveland would pick 6th!! (2004 Sean Taylor).
People say trade down like it's automatic.. with today's rookie contracts and the inherent gamble with any top pick, who do you think is going to be desperate enough to want ours?
|
Re: If the season ended today Washington would pick 5th, and Cleveland would pick 6th!! (2004 Sean Taylor).
Trading down at that point is going to be very tough. It would be easier to trade our 2nd round pick down for more picks

You're right it's not automatic but it is something to consider depending on a potential trading partners needs. There's always going to be a team eying that 5-6 position in the draft so it all depends. |

Cleveland has 3 wins so yeah they would pick in front of us. |

I think they have 4 like us, but I still think they pick ahead of us

Re: If the season ended today Washington would pick 5th, and Cleveland would pick 6th!! (2004 Sean Taylor).
If you really think about it, we should root for KC to win this weekend. I'm not gonna root against the skins, but if they lose and KC wins, We would pick at #4.

if clausen or bradford is there when we pick, we will have trade partners. if they are both gone, then there will be some issues, imo. |
Re: If the season ended today Washington would pick 5th, and Cleveland would pick 6th!! (2004 Sean Taylor).
In the 2009 Draft Cleveland traded its first-round selection (5th overall, used to select Mark Sanchez) to the Jets for the Jets' first- and second-round selections (17th overall, traded to Tampa Bay, who selected Josh Freeman; and 52nd overall, used to select David Veikune), Kenyon Coleman, Brett Ratliff, and Abram Elam.[source 1].
A trade is possible. |
Re: If the season ended today Washington would pick 5th, and Cleveland would pick 6th!! (2004 Sean Taylor).
i would think that with the salary cap going away, the rookie craziness, as far as the money, would come to an end? is this correct to think this way?

Unless a miracle happens, there won't be a change in the way rookies are paid in 2010 because there won't be a new CBA in place. However, it would seem that a rookie pay scale is part of the current bargaining and such a scale might make it into any CBA which will go into effect in 2011 or 2012. |
Re: If the season ended today Washington would pick 5th, and Cleveland would pick 6th!! (2004 Sean Taylor).
According to this unofficial site, the Redskins currently have a weaker strength of schedule and thus would pick ahead of the Browns:

Re: If the season ended today Washington would pick 5th, and Cleveland would pick 6th!! (2004 Sean Taylor).
Find out how Vinny would have used the pick and do the opposite. The two most tempting players available at the top are Suh and Berry obviously. The smart pick Okung. Unfortunately I think the best way to go about safety is the same way we did with the offensive line all these years. Ignore it and hope for the best.
If we still suck at safety next year then we would should consider a change but for now the best hope might be that a new coordinator can use Landry properly. I'm not willing to give up on him just yet, as horrible as he has been this year. It might be a reach but it might be a combination of Blache's mismanagement of the pass defense and a lack of confidence on Landry's part stemming from the problems with the scheme. Of course maybe Landry has truly regressed in all aspects of the word and he's truly become a lost cause, but we have been drafting DB's throughout the Vinny era so I think it's time to neglect that part of our team. |

no one. there is no way in hell we trade a top 10 pick down in the first round unless we get the real short end of the stick i have been sayin it for a while but most people on here seem to think all we have to do is say we want to trade picks and someone will come running |
Re: If the season ended today Washington would pick 5th, and Cleveland would pick 6th!! (2004 Sean Taylor).
Who says we win this weekend since San Diego will probably be playing second stringers? I could see this happening, not that I want us to win, cause we're only hurting ourselves now at this point if we win games cause our draft pick will be worse

Re: If the season ended today Washington would pick 5th, and Cleveland would pick 6th!! (2004 Sean Taylor).
How does everyone feel about this Eric Berry kid ? I know we don't "need" a FS or SS but it sure would be nice to have that kid in the back with Landry ...

Actually we do need a FS so LL can go back to SS. Berry would fit that bill perfectly. |

I been saying this for weeks finally someone else agreeing, I never understood why everyone wanted us to beat the Saints and every team after that, we are playing nothing now, what? pride! BS, I would play any starters, just assure they wont do anything this late and tear something, I say play all 3rd stingers, bring up others and see what we got, like a pre-season game....... Tank this bitch, I rather pick 4th and get a great player than pick 11th or 12th, and get somebody we dont wont........ |

Landry was the 6th overall pick compared to Orakpo being selected at 13. |

reverse side, sean taylor was 5th overall compared to no first round pick at all |

man...selecting the "best player available" has been our stragedy for the last 10 YEARS!!!!! we need to stop this madness and draft for need....and what is that???? O-LINE...and everyone knows it. I dont care if the pick is too high for Okung...Get it DONE!!!!!

I agree..But, we need everything.. Again, we are probably stuck with Soup. He is AGAIN, the Redskins most logical and most financially viable solution to the most important position.:( Unfortunatly for the Redskin Nation, we have VERY many holes. All facets of the team will be affected by this change. This hopefully will clean house and bring in a new and reinvigorated winning tradition to the Skins! But, back to your point, draft best player available round 1, (we need play makers), focus on ol first, then lbs and corners.:twocents: |

Hey Vinny, how was your Christmas? Sorry to hear about your job but with out change everything grows stagnant. |
Re: If the season ended today Washington would pick 5th, and Cleveland would pick 6th!! (2004 Sean Taylor).
It's fine to pick BPA with a list of positions we need. Not over all. BPA over all might be a CB when we pick, but I think you have to look at our needs first which Vinny has neglected.....OL, QB, RB, TE (blocking), FB, LB, and FS. Not in any order.

Re: If the season ended today Washington would pick 5th, and Cleveland would pick 6th!! (2004 Sean Taylor).
I actually think the first sign of true change in Washington will come when Draft day arrives, it's been a while since I could sit back and say "man we really took care of some problem areas this draft", and I'm hoping this year is the start of logical drafting and personel decisions! FUCK YOU VINNY!

Re: If the season ended today Washington would pick 5th, and Cleveland would pick 6th!! (2004 Sean Taylor).
I am sick and tired of us not filling needs also, Yes last year we had a need for ol and we drafted rack, but then what. The year before we drafted 2 wr and a te and we still needed ol and dl help. Yes we got some good to ok show pieces but when will we start drafting young fountain piece like ol first and foremost. Hopeful Bruce and Shanny will build the team the right way even if we have to build for the future and let go some players that we might like. Hint Campbell, Portis, ARE, Maybe even Moss and Cooley too.
