Add a Veteran WR?
Brandon Marshall, Issac Bruce, Terrell Owens are probably all available. Any ideas? Moss needs some help.
|
Re: Add a Veteran WR?
I think the receivers we have are fine. We just need an offensive line that will give some time to get a pass off.
Kelly and Thomas are well on there way to being more then adequate support for Moss. |
Re: Add a Veteran WR?
Nope. We have enough veteran wideouts. Adding anyone new would only take playing time away from the guys who need all the playing time they can get -- Thomas and Kelly.
|
Re: Add a Veteran WR?
I agree with Gtothearry and Beemnseven. We need a better o-line and we don't want to take away time from our young receivers.

I would seriously consider that move. We are not ok a WR and havent been in many many years. ARE needs to go period. That contract needs to be taken off the books this offseason. TO should not come here. Marshall is a record setting WR. I would not give a draft pick for him. Our young WR can still develop if we bring in someone else to start. Moss time is ticking as well. |
Re: Add a Veteran WR?
Next year will be year 3 for Kelly and Thomas, I think you have to keep pushing forward with these guys. They both gave us some flashes this year.
|
Re: Add a Veteran WR?
Why not get the most for cooley why we can? We will not run a two TE set, you just don't see them being very effective or even used anymore with any sucsess. Marshall is a beast, and Davis has unlimited potential, and the best is McDouche now has a prob with schefftler, how great! It would be a fair trade, he would salivate over. Marshall would be a good lad under Shanny, allowing us to focus on the oline and the rest of our needs in the draft. Hell throw in moss for their second or third on top of the deal. I would not be surprised to see this deal happen (minus the moss)
|
Re: Add a Veteran WR?
I like our guys we have now. Get a decent position coach and see if he can make something happen with them. Do what the Eagles did and the Giants and give the new guys a bunch of curl routes, come backs, and out routes. Give Moss the slants and go routes.
I'd also say build up the OL for the future. My only concern is people, like me wanting OL, but presume we do better next year we will fall farther down the draft and may miss out on getting a decent QB unless next years class is full of them. If there is only 2 or 3 good ones like this year then we might as well pick one up this year. Pick up a couple of free agent OL and in the second round pick up an OL. Then ask a bunch to show up for camp. I also would not be against moving down in the draft for more picks so long as it doesn't hinder us from picking up a decent QB. JC is not the answer. Nice backup. But we need a legit #1 QB for the future. |
Re: Add a Veteran WR?
I forgot to add, sorry....
If we are looking at a big WR then I would say look into the FA's don't throw away any draft picks. The only one I know available right now that makes teams scheme around him is T.O. who is a FA at season's end. What happened with Bolden? Is this is FA year also? I know the team was looking to trade him then simply gave up and kept him. Then I don't think they gave him a better contract like he wanted. |
Re: Add a Veteran WR?
So far today we're talking about adding a veteran WR and trading Cooley for Marshall. I feel like we've already forgotten about the 2009 season. Offensive line anyone?
|
Re: Add a Veteran WR?
Nope..move Kelly and Thomas to 1/2 and drop Moss to the slot. That immediately better use of their talents.
|
Re: Add a Veteran WR?
Thought I clearly stated that we should focus our draft on the OL?

Yeah but that almost seems like an afterthought, at least that's the way it came across. |
Re: Add a Veteran WR?
There is some good OL FA coming available ... or so I hope. Plus the draft.
|
Re: Add a Veteran WR?
Oh hell no, O line should be our draft! (look at the Jets last night!)

Anything other than the o-line at this point is a diversion form the reality of need. There are other needs, but O-line is the most pressing and WAD should hold first priority. I'm not convinced this coaching staff got the maximum from our young receivers for whatever the reasons. There's more to be gained with the continued development of our younger players. |
Re: Add a Veteran WR?
The PATS Logan Mankins is, however like Marshall he would become an RFA for 2 years if there is no new CBA. Would love to grab that guy
|
Re: Add a Veteran WR?
We do not have a leader in the locker room to help keep Marshall's outspoken personality in check. Plus, I like what we have seen from our 2008 2nd rounders and feel they deserve a legitimate shot. Throw in Moss and Marko (discard EL) and I think we are solid at receiver. Bring in OL, a franchise signal caller, a decent back and some quality depth and we could be respectable again soon!

Thank you. I have no problem trading Cooley for picks but NO MORE RECEIVERS. We have Moss, Thomas, Kelly, Cooley, Davis, Yoder... enough weapons for now. We need LINEMEN. |
Re: Add a Veteran WR?
Yeah we really don't have a need for a WR. We don't have the best corps in the league but it isn't devoid like a few years ago. Besides we can't get the ball to them since we can't do anything but 3-step drops.

How about forgetting about the 2008 season and our OLine issues then. Ive screamed head off about Oline especially last offseason, and I think that area will be address with possibly 3 new starters. BUT Shanny, if hired, is going to want a WR. ARE is gone, so we will have a need to add someone. We can still develop our young guys...please they need some developing b/c so far not that great....Look the whole freakin offense is absolutely horrible..period, they suck dont they? We are going to be changing a whole lot and rightfully so on the offense side of the ball. Yes we will add multiple Olineman, and we do need a RB as well...but I think if Shanny is here and ARE is most likely gone, we have a WR spot and I say add a vet there...we dont have to break the bank, no draft picks...If Marshall is availible for like Cooley or Laron we should listen.... |
Re: Add a Veteran WR?
If Brandon Marshall becomes available we will get him, especially if Shanahan is here. whether we need him or not is a different story.
|
Re: Add a Veteran WR?
Delete a WR thread?

Re: Add a Veteran WR?
This is the problem around here. Why do we need a veteran receiver?? We have 3 young talented receivers. LETS DEVELOP OUR TALENT, instead of putting old talent to pasture. With Moss (who personally, I'd get rid of) Thomas, Kelly, Mitchel we have three big talented guys. We can find a 4th and 5th receiver late in the draft or undrafted FA. Plus if, thats a big IF, we keep Cooley and Davis we wouldn't need to have a bunch of receivers.

Given that Shanny and Marshall had a major falling out in Denver, Shanny might be the last person in the NFL to bring in Marshall. |
Re: Add a Veteran WR?
I dont want TO if were bringing in a new rookie quarterback. I'd consider marshall, who would consequently make Moss more dangerous.

I agree....The core of the offense needs to be rebuilt and we rebuild from the inside out, not he other way around. Our problem is not that we don't have the receivers, we don't have the blockers for the QB charged with getting the ball to them. |

Marshall will command a draft pick possibly 1st or 2nd round. Issac Bruce is old and has said he's retiring. Lets see..... who does that leave? Hmmm. |
Re: Add a Veteran WR?
There are much better options out there than the ones being mentioned here
I don't think we will or should add a WR but if we do one guy to keep an eye on is Antonio Bryant. Allen likes him. |
Re: Add a Veteran WR?
Bryant is a baller, and he's not the problem child he once was.

while i dont want a TO or brandon marshall or anyone high priced . .i would like an aging veteran to help develop these young recievers. someone like a caldwell, fryar from years past. maybe someone like issac bruce or another aging, not in high demand vet whom we could sign to a low dollar 1 year contract. we really need someone to come in and show these young guys how to study, prepare and condition for an nfl season. i'm not sure ARE has that tutelage capabilities and im almost positive moss doesnt. having vet leadership serving as the no 5 wr on a 1.5 mil/1 yr contract would really help in my mind. a guy in his mid-30's who is willing to work with our youngings would be like another coach out there. bring in a guy like issac bruce with his rings and accomplishments and these young guys might listen to him more than any other person. |

Move Moss to the slot, make Kelly and Thomas the 2 starters. Give Mitchell more playing time |

Marko....Polo.... They may call it reloading but the next 2 years are rebuilding and we need to see the young guys catch passes past the LOS. If ARE is still here I will be suprised, but I don't want to see any action on a high-priced vetran (money/draft picks) until the OL/QB is solid. |
Re: Add a Veteran WR?
We've just finished witnessing one of the most horrendous season in team history. Everyone, everywhere have on more than one occasion identified what this team's basic need is. When that is addressed "first" I'd be more than willing to discuss players at any other position. Until then, my thought process is like Mike Ditka's was when he traded the Saints entire draft for Ricky Williams, we need to be thinking O-line, O-line and more O-line. Until the issue is resolved nothing else matters. Skilled players are rendered moot without an O-line. O-line anybody!!

I agree 100%, although i think mitchell could push kelly for the #2 slot. however, even in that scenario, we still need a fifth receiver. |
Re: Add a Veteran WR?
Hopefully ARE and Moss get traded cause they need to go. the only veterans I want in here would be Bryant and possibly Marshall. The thing with marshall is he is the baby TO and that wouldn't be good if we get a rookie QB.

I like it. Let's develop who we have. |
Re: Add a Veteran WR?
No WR's...we need better OL & QB play before we even know how good the WR's we have can be.
