Jason Campbells response to Portis
I suppose this could have gone in the other thread, but d*** Campbell LIT Portis up:
Campbell fires back at Portis Washington Redskins quarterback Jason Campbell blasted Clinton Portis for his poor work ethic and lack of understanding about "what real leadership is," responding to Portis' comments earlier in the day about Campbell. Campbell, selected one of six team captains by teammates the last two seasons, called out Portis for putting himself above the team and, in his opinion, an overall lack of professionalism Portis has exhibited in Campbell's five seasons in Washington. Which player do you side with in Portis vs. Campbell? * Jason Campbell. * Clinton Portis. * Neither player. Created on Jan 5, 2010 View Results poll by twiigs.com "How is he going to say I'm not a leader?" Campbell said in a lengthy phone interview. "I mean, that's just not true. To me, that's somebody who shows that they don't know what a real leader is. A leader is not someone who leads by the wrong example. A leader is someone who is trying to do the right thing and trying to lead by example, and not just [being] about themselves. There's a reason guys get selected as captains, and there's a reason guys don't get selected as captains. Obviously, he doesn't have the respect of the locker room to be a captain. For someone to try to take a shot at me at the end of the season, after they haven't even been around, only speaks about their character anyways. "There have been a lot of things I could have come out and said. But I never went out of my way to make those things known. I never wanted those things to leave the locker room because it's no one else's business. And for those things to be said, questioning my character and questioning my leadership, I think that's not the way to go, especially when you're supposed to be a team guy. Is that being a good teammate? If that's the case, why is no one questioning my leadership and everyone is questioning his work ethic? Everyone looks at that. I'm not going to get into an argument; I don't even like talking about stuff like this because it makes no sense and it doesn't help the team, but I'm going to speak my mind on it when this is what he's saying about me." Portis's seemingly cozy relationship with owner Daniel Snyder has stirred resentment in the locker room because he rarely practices. Campbell is "not ready for that situation," Portis said of the quarterback's captaincy. "I think Jason has enough trouble in getting the plays in and worrying about this, compared to controlling the huddle and making sure, 'Oh, we do this and we do that.' But you go and vote Jason Campbell [as captain] -- you know Jason Campbell ain't go and tell the coach, 'Well, we need to do this or we need to do that,' or 'This is how the players want it.' The only person I think would do it is London Fletcher." Campbell said the comment pointed to Portis' obliviousness to the facts, Campbell said. "We [all the captains] do go to the coaches. It's not our fault if the coaches decide they're not going to [do what the captains suggest]," Campbell said. "But we have some guys who go above the coaches. And that's another problem. You have some players who are not team players. "They don't do the things teammates do to help each other. And then at the end of the season, when it's been a hard season, you want to point fingers at other people because you're upset about your own shortcomings? You're upset because you get into it with your teammates because of what you do?" During a 16-13 victory Oct. 4 over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Portis went to coaches in an effort to have Pro Bowl fullback Mike Sellers demoted for what Portis deemed to be poor blocking. Sellers eventually confronted Portis during a heated locker-room exchange in which no punches were thrown, team sources said, but Mike Sellers essentially told Portis his teammates did not respect him because of his me-first approach. "Not one time have I come out and made any excuses about anything with my situation," Campbell said. "I never do anything to try to hurt my teammates. Some people need to stop being 'me' guys and start being 'we' guys. And another thing, and I want you to write this, too, how does he even know what's going on with our team? "How's he [going to] question anything when for those four or five weeks before he was on IR [the season-ending injured-reserve list], he never even came around. He wasn't with us. He was never at practice. Who does he think was holding the offense together? He should go ask the coaches and the players if he wants to know. But he wasn't around to do that. He doesn't know anything about leadership." Campbell said he was disappointed about airing private team matters in public, and especially frustrated that Portis would verbally attack him with the Redskins apparently close to making a long-anticipated announcement that former Denver Broncos coach Mike Shanahan has been hired as their next head coach. This is not the type of thing Snyder, General Manager Bruce Allen and Shanahan need to be confronted with at a time like this, but Portis left him no choice, Campbell said. "You've got guys out there working their butts off, guys out there practicing and doing everything they need to do to prepare for Sundays, and you see him over there getting special treatment," Campbell said of Portis. "What does that say about him? I go out, I get beat down on Sundays, and I still have to go out and practice and get ready for games. And that's what your supposed to do. "If you're about your team and trying to help your team, if you're not about yourself, you deal with the pain and that's what you do. What makes it so different for others? I mean, this is what's wrong with our team. Instead of a guy coming to you if he has a problem, instead of going to talk to the person, you go speak out loud in public. How does that help? How does that help the team?"
I don't think I have ever seen Campbell speak out like that, EVER. |

Re: Jason Campbells response to Portis
I'm siding with Campbell on this one. Portis' ass can hit the road.
|
Re: Jason Campbells response to Portis
Yea I just read the whole thing, I'm pretty speechless because this is the 1st time we have heard JC go off like that and I don't blame him. As much as I love Portis this time I definitely agree with JC.
|
Re: Jason Campbells response to Portis
WOW! I cant believe JC fired off like that, hey maybe its a good thing, you know JC gettin a little fire under his ass. This isnt helping CP at all, its gonna get very very interesting.
|
Re: Jason Campbells response to Portis
Get this stuff out while there's no coach, I guess. You can tell there's been tension with this team all along.

I don't think I have ever seen Campbell speak out like that, EVER.
The fact that Campbell said all that, I really think is telling about how others in the locker room feel about Portis, and how people are just tired of his act... I honestly am too...I could deal with it when he could still back it up on the feild, but I'm just sick of this crap... I 100% stand behind Campbell on this one, even if he has been less productive than Portis overall on the feild... |
Re: Jason Campbells response to Portis
This sounds like days of our SKINS hahahahahahahha.
we should dump both these CLOWNS and draft a QB as our 4th pick...then trade for another first rounder and get us some CJ SPILLER. PROBLEM SOLVED |
Re: Jason Campbells response to Portis
This just shows how much unaired laundry Campbell was dealing with during the season. The story just reconfirms for me that he is a guy that will lead this team in the future if given a chance. I definitely hope he sticks around! I got sick of Zorn and Campbell always sugar coating things. Im glad people are finally getting called out.

Re: Jason Campbells response to Portis
Get ride of Portis...please....he's older too....
Keep Campbell....best years ahead. It's simple. Take the hit on the cap, it will show real change. |
Re: Jason Campbells response to Portis
There you go JC i hope Portis pissed you off and you work hard this offseason.

Re: Jason Campbells response to Portis
Whomp! Way to go JC! It sucks that all of this is in public but way to hold your ground!
Please let's give Portis a ticket out of town. |

Im guessing that their might be a lot more to this story coming out by other players. I just hope they get rid of the cancers. |
Re: Jason Campbells response to Portis
With Shannahans history with Running Backs I don't want to see a RB picked before the fourth round. Maybe in a few years when the team is established but the beauty about Shannahans system is you don't have to tie up a bunch of carries and money in a single runner. If one isn't pulling their weight you go with someone else.
As for Campbell vs Portis, I personally hope they're both gone, but if I had to keep one I would keep Campbell. |
Re: Jason Campbells response to Portis
I didn't know Jason had it in him, but after reading what he had to say I must agree he's without a doubt on point. It's totally disgusting listening to Portis's rambling.
|
Re: Jason Campbells response to Portis
Another reason to join the "keep JC" bandwagon and another reason for the first big move of the Shany/Allen era to be cutting Portis.
|
Re: Jason Campbells response to Portis
I have already responded elsewhere to JC's retort.

Re: Jason Campbells response to Portis
Trade Portis for a shutdown corner and a 2nd rounder...
|
Re: Jason Campbells response to Portis
Portis is a first class ass. I have lost all respect for him.
|
Re: Jason Campbells response to Portis
Portis is a b*tch...cut his a$$ now!!!
|
Re: Jason Campbells response to Portis
Good for JC. It's apparent Portis has become a locker room cancer. Hopefully Portis has played his last game in B & G.
While I haven't been a fan of JC's play this year, he is a good teammate and a stand up guy, glad to see him standing his ground against Portis' B.S. |
Re: Jason Campbells response to Portis
JC is absolutely %100 in the right on this one, this one could get outta hand , sheriff gonna getcha done wrote a check his ass cant cash, i cant wait until they tell him his services are no longer need!
|
Re: Jason Campbells response to Portis
damn JC, those are some strong words. the way i see it, there are two reasons why portis needs to go.
1. hes too expensive for what he produces on the field 2. we have too many other young talented guys that are willing to work for the job that he has. |
Re: Jason Campbells response to Portis
Everyone know JC is a class act I use to defend Portis but he was dead wrong for those comments I'm threw with him.

Re: Jason Campbells response to Portis
Bout time JC did something other than look all "awww shucks." I am not a fan of him, but he is servicable while somone comes up and we rebuild the line. Portis is expendable. With a Shanny system Ganther, Mason, Aldridge?, can get us through too. Hell Mason/Ganther/Rock looked alot better than CP last year behind a more make-shift line.

haha i should have added that as well. portis played well for us, and i appreciate that, but its time to part ways. |
Re: Jason Campbells response to Portis
I agree with campbell but think they both should go bye bye

I'm glad that someone is, it gets lonely on my island sometimes. |
Re: Jason Campbells response to Portis
first of all Portis sounds like he is seriously mentally retarded...he can't even put together coherent sentences....total donk.
secondly, I hate Portis....he has been a cancer for the last 2 years, he is lazy and entitled, he needs to go. Totally epitomizes the Redskins troubles. Campbell, on the other hand, is a an example of the type of players the Skins need in future if they want to be a winner. JC could have made multiple excuses for this season, he didn't, acted like a man and played as hard as anyone....he had at least 4 opportunities to come out of games after taking huge shots, but picked himself up and went back in to play for his teammates...if I was out there with him, I would consider him a leader. Portis on the other hand pussied out and never even tried to get back on the field....no chance his concussion was that bad. |
Re: Jason Campbells response to Portis
Portis needs to STFU...no one likes a backbencher bitch.

Portis has zero work ethic, and used his relationship with the owner to manipulate and get his way. I can't believe people still try to defend CP... any true fan has to realize this guy is a total cancer to this team. 2. You can cherry pick one quote if you want, but JC is a total warrior, he never blamed his teammates, never threw teammates under the bus...when they beatbe hard pressed to find anyone who would call JC an "excuse maker" 3. I don't have to be a concussion expert, multiple players on multiple teams suffered concussions and came back....name one other player who missed more than half the season with a concussion??? CP saw a way to bail on the season, it fits his pattern of laziness and noncommittment to football. JC even said CP wasn't around the team for weeks before he went on IR...why not? He is all about himself, not a winner. I can't believe people still have an ounce of respect for this useless piece of dung. |
