New Sheriff in town.....2010, I'll be happy if?

With a makeover in the offing, and ALL the crap we had to deal with this season, what will you consider to be a successful season in 2010?
If we go 8-8 and scare a few more games in the process. NO shutouts. NO blowouts. Do much sensible team building to the future with quality guys.
I will be a happy man

Re: New Sheriff in town.....2010, I'll be happy if?

- Sensible building of team, with riff-raff let go and quality brought in, including a responsible draft
- If Shanny goes QB at #4, he better either retain Campbell for a year or 2, or grab a veteran ready to take the reigns (I'm still in favor of Okung/McCoy if QB is a priority)
- Win 2 of the 6 division games, 7 wins overall
- Snyder stays hands off (HA!)

Re: New Sheriff in town.....2010, I'll be happy if?

A smart, disciplined team. There was nothing more annoying the past 2 seasons with Zorn than to see boneheaded errors and a lack of discipline. I am looking forward to seeing an aggressive and progressive offensive system that's suited to the players rather than the players having to shoehorn into what the coach feels the offense would be. That's what I felt that Zorn did far too much.

This, and at least beating Dallas NYG and Philly once. I don't want to be the red-headed step child in the division anymore.

All I want, and I don't care if we go 4-12 to 8-8 (I don't think playoffs are believable at all) is a sign of some real change. A sensible draft after cutting some of the dead weight and adding a couple smart choice free agents would be perfect.

What I really want to see 1st year is a season with no clock management mishaps at the end of halfs and games. That would just give me enough of a sign that we doing alright.

I want to see a 100% turnover in the coaching staff.

I want to see some kind of shakeup in the people involved in scouting pro players on other teams and other teams' practice squads.

I want to see a training camp that stresses conditioning and hard work instead of a kids' summer camp atmosphere.

I want to see every player subject to the same team rules - - particularly when it comes to practicing and conditioning.

I want the Redskins to be the youngest team in the NFL - - meaning that a lot of "long-in-the-tooth vets" will be looking for work.

I want the Redskins to make a decision on who is their QB of the future by the end of the 2010 season - - and then to stick with that decision for at least the next 3 full seasons.

Most of all, I want to hear that Vinny Cerrato has gotten a job as a Sherpa taking mountain climbers up Mount Everest so that he is far enough away that he cannot find any opportunity to nibble on Danny Boy's earlobe and throw sand into the gears of the new regime.

Re: New Sheriff in town.....2010, I'll be happy if?

IM GOING ON RECORD AND SAYING MIKE SHANAHAN WILL GET US A EASY 10 BUT HARD 11 GAMES NEXT YEAR!!! Let me explain, everyone in the media and nfl thinks we have Top 10 Defense, that's without question, M. Shanahan is a Offensive Genius, thats without question, Jason Campbell or Sam Bradford, we will Score and adverage of 26 points next year, now I am thinking outside of our division, we will have a light schedule, so we won 4 games this year.... can anyone say without a doubt that is we had this adverage per game, we couldn't have won 6 more games. Dare I say 7? So my theory is that Shanny will have us starting off hot.... like 4-1 then we taper off to 2-3, so now we are 6-4, then we finish with a winning record the last 6 games. 4-2, which makes us 10-6, I think somewhere in there, it will be a game we might pull off, with a lil magic.... maybe 11-5, So my final anaylis is that we finish the division, the top team in our division or second place. Which 10 gets us in the playoff's, 11 get's us a home game. I can see us doing something special in the playoff's and maybe losing the 2nd playoff game going into 2011 with Superbowl asperations.

I care less about our record next season. I want our team to compete professionally. I want our offensive line rebuilt. I want our younger players getting real time on the field. I want our players being used to maximize their abilities and not as square pegs in round holes. I want this team to become a foundational team. One that does all the anti-glitz and glamor stuff right in spite of their record.

The enthusiasm is great, however transitions take time.

Your Top 10 Defense could possibly have a completely different look if Shanny and (Your DC Here) implement a hybrid 3-4 defense similar to the Steelers and Patriots. I don't see the dropoff being great, but it's going to take time for the defense to re-gel and assure that they don't let games slip away in the waning moments. And while Shanny is an offensive genius as you call him, it's going to take time to teach up the offensive line (whomever is left over plus whomever comes in via draft and free agency) the new blocking schemes. Plus while the offense is similar in nature, there is going to be a learning curve, especially if Campbell is here running the show while Bradford/Clausen/Tebow/McCoy learn the ropes.

10-11 wins would be awesome, but is it realistic? Any improvement is good improvement. I think 7 wins with 2 coming in division would be a vast improvement over the 4 wins and 0 division wins from this year. I'd say 10-11 wins might be possible in 2011, but more probably in 2012.

I really was pulling for Gruden but since the writting is on the wall. M.Shanahon is a proven coach but I'm not that familiar with him. What type of offense does he run again? I am excited to see what he does with the O-LINE.

Like most have said just discipline and a true chain of command no more, i got a big contract so i wont keep my conditioning attitudes. I truly hope DS keeps his relationships with the players professional and that he doesnt give the players that option where he is available for consultation.

I think overall people will be happy with a winning season. Sadly, there are a bunch of Shanahan haters already that I'm sure they will be bitching and whining the first time we lose a game and won't be happy with an 8-8 or 9-7 record.

good post, and i agree. the first thing that came to mind after the giants game was what i was watching wasn't even professional football. im not sure what it was? i have never seen the skins look like that, even in some of the bad years. i hope to god we will never look like that again. while i do care about our record, lets get top the point where we are competitive EVERY week

I'm chalking up about 7-8 loses there. I'm thinking 8-8 season. Which compared to this season, will be fantastic for a team in rebuilding mode.

Re: New Sheriff in town.....2010, I'll be happy if?

I'd be happy if we finish 9-7 and go 3-3 in the division. New York is beatable as is Philly and Dallas. I would hope our D finishes top 5 or 10 in the league and offense totals in around 15-20. With those rankings playoffs arent out of reach. And for all of you counting out the playoffs next year, remember the falcons, ravens, and this years jets. The Ravens established themselves as an AFC contender who formerly associated with good defense and mediocre offense. We are better now than Atlanta was 2 years ago. They lost deangelo williams warrick dunn and mike vick, and rebuilt their franchise with the face of matt ryan. Whose to say we can't accomplish that in a year. Teams can win games with rookie quarterbacks, and should we draft one, i think we can and will.

our toughest games are at home which in one way is good (homefield advantage) and in another way sucks (if we lose.. it's at home... the games we're most likely to go to, the ones that season ticket holders have, etc)

2.) Since Shannahan is implementing a West Coast offense i would like a West Coast QB.

3.) Rebuild the offensive line.

4.) I wanna see Laron at SS and Orakpo at DE.
