Don't know if this is thread worthy but I thought I would start one anways. My buddy just sent me this link...

Checking the news section of the site it looks like quite a few guys in the NFL are getting minor charges.

The article says he was going into a pizza place and and he appeared drunk. As long as he wasn't driving drunk to get to the pizza place, I got no problem. I've been "publicly intoxicated" more times than I care to recall (many many many years ago of course -well past the statute of limitations ago).

I agree; without any additional charges it really doesn't bother me. That's a pretty popular area in Iowa to hop around place to place on foot. I'm wondering what "trying to enter" means... either the place was actually closed.. or he was having trouble getting the door open.. or what?

No nuisance, disturbance, resisting, etc charges.. no big deal. Took the cop walking up to him to know he was drunk so apparently he wasn't stumbling along falling through trashcans or something.

Well, I can tell you from experience that cops get nervous around big guys who appear drunk. Even if you are completely docile, polite, and respectful, cops tend to not give you any leeway and are more hostile to big boys than others.

Not saying that played a role in this case, but it wouldn't surprise me.

im not going to lambast the guy or make judgment calls about his dedication but i do think to be the very best in the nfl you need to commit yourself 365 days a year. being drunk at a pizza joint in your old college town at 2 in the morning may be ok (and down right expected) of me or you but not for him.

you get paid big bucks to stay in shape and be as physically prepared as you can be. conditioning can be the down fall for alot of the bigger players, i hope this doesnt prove to be the case/pattern for chad. but we know he has had trouble getting up to speed in the nfl already.

I really hope that there is more to this than just the above, otherwise I should be arrested at least 3 times a week...

i live 30 mins north of pittsburgh and this seems like a real "Jeff Reed" thing he did. I swear Reed gets drunk and does something dumb every couple months it seems

Public intoxication is such a BS charge, there's no way that should be a crime unless it's coupled with some other behavior. This just makes me like Chad more.

It's such a crap violation, public drunkenness.

Sort of retarded to head to a pizza joint at 2 am tho...you should be looking for a denny's or waffle house and then plan to feel even worse than if you just had the hangover :)

Well I've been drunk...in public before. Never got rung up on it but plenty have. 95% of the people I know have been drunk in public before like this. Hard to believe he actually got klinked. Cop must have been in a bad mood. In a college town usually the cops let the inebriated walk as long they aren't causing trouble. Otherwise they'd be pretty damn busy bay-sitting all weekend. I give this a big whoop.

Hell if he's speeding at least he'd be theoretically putting someone else in danger. Being drunk @ 2AM in a college town going to a pizza place...i gotta wonder...who didn't get arrested by this guy? This was the only drunk guy walking into that place? No chance lance.

that's all that anybody does in iowa.. i have a few friends that went to iowa state, don't think any of them have ever gotten busted for it.. i think it has more to do with him setting off the alarm
