I actually think this is a pretty good video of CP. He sounds like he has to prove that he can still play.. I hope he has the same fight and hunger as he did when he first got here. |
Re: Portis on NFLN "Want's to play for Shanny"
"I'm never pointing the finger or anything else." Sounds like the same CP to me. At least he knows if he wants to stay in Washington he's gonna have to get with the program.

Re: Portis on NFLN "Want's to play for Shanny"
I liked the interview, at least he knows it's MS's way or the highway.
|
Re: Portis on NFLN "Want's to play for Shanny"
He can say all he wants, lets see if his body can back it up.
|
Re: Portis on NFLN "Want's to play for Shanny"
Oh well, if Shanahan record stands Portis will be run out of town eventually. I mean he went through a similar situation with John Lynch.
|
Re: Portis on NFLN "Want's to play for Shanny"
Portis can stay here if he wants, just as long as he understands that....
1. He needs to practice 2. This will be a multiple RB system and he won't get all the carries 3. He needs to keep his mouth shut. |

The more I hear from him, the more I want Shanahan/Allen to try and get something in a trade for him, but otherwise, just let him go. |

Unfortunately, with LT very likely on the market, I doubt anyone would be willing to give us anything for him. Honestly, I'd be happy with a 4th, 5th, or 6th rounder for him. Regardless, if he stays he'll be just another RB body to rotate. |
Re: Portis on NFLN "Want's to play for Shanny"
Very interesting guy. However he spun a lot of things in that interview.

won't o'danny boy have to eat 14 mil if we just "cut" him? |

I think it's more like 7million, maybe 10, but he let zorn go for. 2 million'ish depending on the offset, and has handed the reins to Allen/Shanahan. If they let him go, then yep DS has to eat that amount as well. |

As much as I'd like to see him succeed in D.C. 1) I Don't think he'll practice. 2) He will not take not getting all the carries well 3) I know he won't keep his mouth shut. At loss number 3, Portis will blow up on the John Thomspon show or something. He needs to come out and have a "team player" kind of season, and I simply don't think he has that in him. |
Re: Portis on NFLN "Want's to play for Shanny"
He's such a child. He's the kid in class who acted up when a sub (Zorn) came in. When teacher (Shanny) returned or the principal (Allen)walked by, he straightened up. Seems nothing's changed since 4th grade.
I used to be CP fan until he bailed on the team last season. Why move ass now, Clinton? |

It will be a big mistake if we keep CP. We all know he will disrupt Shanny's efforts to rebuild a TEAM and he will be cut next year anyway. So Allen/Shanny should smartly ship him out and try and and get some value (4th or 5th pick) now cause next year he will be worthless. |
Re: Portis on NFLN "Want's to play for Shanny"
I have gotten to the point where I no longer listen to anything Portis has to say. What will be telling is what he does, not what he says. He says a lot without really saying anything. I guess you have to be where he's from to understand him.

Re: Portis on NFLN "Want's to play for Shanny"
It's really a shame how CP has fallen from the Redskins faithfull graces ... I think we can all agree that back in 05-08 he was a true Redskin and busted his ass every second on the field ... Remember that tackle in pre-season against the Bengals because of a shitty INT ? Remember all the bad ass blocks he lays people on his ass day in and day out ... Remember all the yards/touchdowns and 2 playoff app.'s ???? Let's let the chip's fall where they may but if CP can back up his mouth I see big things from him this year ...
:twocents: 1,500 yards 12+ TD's :pimp: Lot's to prove and a hungry CP is good to me .. Don't forget Zorno was a moron and that pissed everyone off not just Clinton :bdh: |
1) If he doesn't practice, Shanahan will give him the boot... and i'm sure he knows that better than we do. 2) He should be a little used to splitting carries. the two years before Betts broke 1000 and the one year after, Betts got 90, 89, and 93 carries. Not that it's exactly 50/50 but Portis is not stranger to the concept of sharing carries. At this point in his career, he should be happy to be relevant at all. If he isn't, he better pretend to be, cuz if he gripes about it, Shanahan will give him the boot... and i'm sure he knows that better than we do. 3) If shanahan puts is hit in his @$$ one good time, i think he'll keep his mouth shut. If not Shanahan will give him the boot... and i'm sure he knows that better than we do. |
Re: Portis on NFLN "Want's to play for Shanny"
Of course, Portis wants to play for Shanny. There's no guarantee he would play much anywhere else.
I say we sign Pierre Thomas. He would be so good in the zone blocking scheme. He hits the hole hard, and I think he was underutilized in New Orleans. |

Okay, we snagged Haynesworth with a ba-jillion dolalr baited hook, but i doubt the saints are gonna let him go after the season they just had. Keep dreamin! |

It was a good thing the Saints won the Super Bowl.. According to Shefter, over half the players on the team are up for new contracts this offseason. 18 RFA's and 11 UFA's, plus they are certain to extend Brees with a long term deal. So they can't pay everyone. Which means they are probably going to get cherry picked. |

Brees may pull a Brady and NOT ask for a ton of money to ensure the team's longevity as a contender by freeing money for a great supporting cast. Bell is gonna be a free agent. Now i seriosly doubt they will try harder to keep Bell than keep Pierre Thomas. Statisticly he's just barely above everyone else. He's been as important as Reggie Bush. If they keep Bush and Thomas, Bell can be replaced cheaply from within, thus a more likely option for other teams... unless he wants to leave. I bet Bell is out and Thomas will stay. But there really isn't any telling. |

There are two O-Linemen (Bushrod and Brown) that are going to be RFA's and every other team in the league that values upright QB's tend to spend well on their lines, so we'll see which way they go. Most people believe Reggie Bush is gone because he's due to make $20mil over the next two years, and while he has bona fide game-changing skills, is he worth that kind of dough by default? I don't see it. (And surely, neither do the Saints). But maybe they keep Reggie and Pierre and resign Brees, leaving one or both of their RFA OT's vulnerable? |
Re: Portis on NFLN "Want's to play for Shanny"
I don't think he's going to break Riggo's record.
He'll probably average 4.0 YPC AT BEST and get around 243 carries in a season(frequent trend in Shanahan's offense) and in Shanny's run game, a 4.0 YPC is actually below average. |

He's also come with a cheaper price tag. |
Re: Portis on NFLN "Want's to play for Shanny"
Portis wants to get those fat paychecks that are coming to him so long as his contract stays in place. NO team in the league will sign him as a free agent to anything nearly that lucrative; I am positive that his agent has explained that to him.
If the Skins release him, he will get whatever guaranteed money is still due him and then he is off signing small contracts to try to catch on with other teams. The model here is Shaun Alexander or Ahman Green late in their careers. And this year it is possible that Portis would be only the 3rd most desirable "aging running back" on the market. LaDanian Tomlinson may be available and so may Brian Westbrook. The benefit that either of them brings to the table is that neither of those guys is known as a "pain in the ass". Oh, and their resumes as running backs are at least as good as Portis' resume too. |
Re: Portis on NFLN "Want's to play for Shanny"
I won't even listen to the interview...I am done wth him. Washed up Cancer...
|
Re: Portis on NFLN "Want's to play for Shanny"
i think hell be fine and should be successful splitting carries this year in a run first system.
he wont be cut. hell be a Skin this year. I like it, older CP or not.. he deserves one more.. at least. |

Turner says he believes that Portis has plenty left in him

I'm sure plenty will disagree with Turner, but if CP is healthy and motivated I agree he's got something left.

I do believe that if CP has a compliment back and can stay healthy, he will do very well for another year or 2 in Shanahan's offense. As the full-time workhorse, no. |

Yeah with a good off-season he can show what he's got left.. a bit of luck in blocking and health could go a long way with him with a bad one, might as well chalk it up as him being done |
Re: Portis on NFLN "Want's to play for Shanny"
Saying he want's to play for Shanahan means he didn't want to play for Zorn.

I think you nailed it. I've said it before, the hit Portis took was barely game ending let alone season ending. In other words he took a dive because he didn't want to play for Zorn. To me as a die hard football and more specifically, Redskins fan, THIS REALLY PISSES ME OFF! I always liked Portis, but I have lost a lot of respect for him as a person and player.:soapbox: |

Re: Portis on NFLN "Want's to play for Shanny"
Sure he has something left, but does he want to do the work to get the most out of it? I have no doubt if Portis goes all out and stays focused he can have a good year. The reason he gets by with so much crap is because every coach sees the great talent he has. If he puts as much effort into being a great RB as he does running his mouth, he'll probably have a good year. Portis is as good as he works to be.

Good point 53. He has never been one to put in alot of off season work. I think after the 08 season, and all the "genius" back and forth between Zorn and Portis, he kind of "shut it down". |
Re: Portis on NFLN "Want's to play for Shanny"
#1- CP's arse was knocked the "F" out when he took the 2 helmet to helmet hits at once. He even fumbled the ball but was ruled down.
#2- Has his doctor even cleared him yet? #3- Every job has a perk. His perk is that all he has to do is show up for camp in shape ready to practice and participate for a few MILLION dollars. Preferably with out complaint. At this point I'd prefer to just get younger at this position. If we have to pick a position to not touch until next year then I guess this one would suffice but Portis, Betts, and Rock are all close to 30 and not getting younger. Portis's concussion means he'll be suseptable to getting concussions in the future more easily. Everyone kept mentioning how Ganther was a similar type of RB as our previous 3 RB's so I would say lets see what Shanahan can get out of a younger similar style of RB in Ganther and how he utilizes the scat back in Alridge and pick up a mid round or later RB that they think will work in their system. Get rid of Portis, Keep Betts and let the best man win. I'd let Rock go since we have other players who can do the same job just as easily and can actually play other positions instead of just one spot. Get rid of Portis cause of his salary and because of the drama he caused this year. We need team players. We need players who are not going to complain about practice or preseason. |
