Interesting Comments from Carlos Rogers

These comments where posted via twitter by 106.7 dafan. Apparently they had a interview with Rogers, who now wants to be on the team. He was upset with the coaching staff and now that they are gone he wants to stay a skin...

1067thefandc Spoke to #Redskins CB C.Rogers via phone:“I definitely want to be here, especially after the coaching change — but it is in their hands” -CR

1067thefandc #Redskins RFA CB C.Rogers: “We never changed. I got beat several times. I'm sorry. That’s what happens when you play man & don’t change"-CR

1067thefandc #Redskins CB C.Rogers: "I am a starter in the league, and a lot of teams wanted to try to trade for me, and they would not let me go.” -CR

1067thefandc #Redskins CB C.Rogers on Landry: “Laron is a good player. They just tell him to do too many different things. So he gets confused a lot."-CR

Should we keep him? what do you think, discuss...

He's worth tendering.

Re: Interesting Comments from Carlos Rogers

He's a solid CB, but there's always been something going on between he & the staff. We saw this in 06 & in the past 2 years especially. Will a coaching change truly make a difference? I don't know. For now I'll agree w/Matty that he's certainly worth tendering.

Just like Phat Albert having a problem with the coaching staff. tender him

He may play well with the new staff and schemes. Tender him.

It would be a mistake to get rid of him.

we have obvious and more pressing needs at other positions. los has not played great, just doing his job the best he can. tender him for now.

with a new staff (haslett specifically) talking about making changes that should lead to more turnovers, maybe los makes an impact. i am not holding my breath, but hopeful.

we have to retain carlos, hes our best corner imo.

this isnt the first time we've heard that landry was confused as to his assignments last year b/c he was being told different/opposite things. he was told at different times last year to play the receiver and make his reads, then he was told to play the ball and make his reads, he was told to come up and be aggressive against the run then told to play back, etc.....

landry and los are solid players who i think will benefit greatly from not having ol stubborn aint gonna change a damn thing blache as their D coord.

He has expressed his frustration from time to time, but he's more than serviceable and is worth keeping on the team now that he's shown the desire to stay.

Are you people forgetting that the GREAT Vinny Cerrato gave us both Justin Tryon and Kevin "YouTube" Barnes..................tender him ASAP.

I wouldn't write off either one of these guys yet. Tryon might be a decent NB and it's too early to tell anything on Barnes just yet.

Re: Interesting Comments from Carlos Rogers

Since the redskins picked up Bruce Allen it seemed that Carlos had a change of heart. I guess he feels comfortable with the changes in the front office and his friend carnell williams (hope I spelled that right..) had nothing but great words about Bruce Allen.
I wouldn't mind having a player that's motivated to play for the skins.. And we aren't paying him a Huge salary that a high price free agent cb would require.

I know, it's just that the site had been down for a few days and with the withdrawls and all I had to get in a shot on good old Vinny. Who by the way is responsible for the nations struggling economy.

I remember the same issues occuring with Sean, you now the big article talking about Steve Jackson in the Washington Post. I'm suprised he remained on the new staff.

corners are like pitchers...you can never have enough, especially when you play in a division where the saints are going to air it out 40 times a game.

I thought his comment about LL was interesting. Sounds like he's a big dummy.

I'm hoping that everyone, including Los and LL, play better this year simply because we are under new management. I think we had more talent last year than we showed because the talent regularly underperformed in the face of organizational dysfunction. If Shanahallen can just get guys like Los and LL to play up to their potentials, we have a dramatically different team.

Re: Interesting Comments from Carlos Rogers

tender him depending on how we do in FA and the draft that will determine how much longer we'll keep him. I could see Shanny bringing in Dunta Robinson especially since Kyle worked against him in houston

Re: Interesting Comments from Carlos Rogers

I'm torn because I really don't see Rogers as a top flight corner.. Yes he is a starter in the league but in a league of 64 starting CB, I'd put him in the mid 30's or 40's. Would we be better served in signing a Dunta Robinson (remember-uncapped season) and tendering Rogers in the hope of picking up a 2nd or 3rd round pick for him?

Not a bad idea. It'd be nice to recoup a pick for the Jarmon selection last year.

Definitely; you shouldn't groan about keeping the guy but he's not above receiving offers on either.

I think that what he says about Landry and some of the scheme stuff is true, we've been hearing it for years from more than one guy.

I think Los is a good player. He is also an emotional player. He has mood swings that can effect his play on the field. He needs to mature as a person to be a better player. I think he is a better player when we win than when we lose.

Definitely; Campbell mentioned a couple of years ago that they tried to get him to work on that at Auburn but he's a grown man now and it's his choice to work on it or not.

Re: Interesting Comments from Carlos Rogers

I don't know how exactly it will play out, but one thing we can bet on is a much more offensively focused coaching staff. Defensive players won't become an afterthought, but looking back at Shanahan's history he just showed minimal commitment to defensive players IMO. Guys like Los and Landry will need to 1) dramatically improve their play 2) dramatically change their attitude...or I see Shanahan replacing either/both without batting an eye. Landry especially seemed to be given ridiculous special treatment the last several years. Allowed to act like a special-needs child on the field, disgracefully avoided contact on certain plays and repeatedly whiffed on easy tackles, Landry won't get the same preferential treatment going forward. He'll either be on the bench, traded or cut under Shanahan unless you believe he can dramatically change.

He probably isn't. Rogers said something to the effect that he (LL) had too much on his plate and was often confused.

Yep, same thing that was said about ST during his downtime. Same thing mentioned with our corners, etc

Some of these guys just go out and play.. then you try to change their style and make them think of 20 things before the play, you mess their heads up

Antonio Cromartie Has 7 Kids in 5 Different States and it’s a Distraction | Larry Brown Sports
So here I thought Travis Henry and his 11 kids by nine women was bad, and now I find out that Chargers CB Antonio Cromartie is hot on his trail. A nice Sunday feature on Cromartie in the San Diego Union-Tribune talks about all the work he’s doing this offseason to try and have a great year on the field. In addition to the hip injury Cromartie played through all last year, we find out that Antonio was distracted by several off-field issues as well.

All throughout the organization there were whispers that the then-24-year-old’s head was not right. But sitting down between workouts last week, Cromartie acknowledged a less-than-focused drift through the 2008 season.

“Last year my head wasn’t in there,” Cromartie said. “I was dealing with my kids and their moms. It had my mind somewhere else.”

There are a lot of directions to be pulled when you have seven kids living in five states. Cromartie has been named in at least five paternity suits in the past two years.

Just another reminder when you’re wondering what the heck is up with a player when he’s not performing well that they can be bothered by everyday problems just like us. Divorces, family problems, paternity issues — it all wears on a man! I just hope the former Sporting News magazine cover boy might consider wearing that cup of his every day of the week, not just Sundays.
Re: Interesting Comments from Carlos Rogers

I was a fan of Rogers; I wanted to extend his contract when we resigned Hall's.. I am still a fan of Rogers, although his actions/words have changed my opinions.. Given the FA market for cornerbacks; the ideal would be for us to tender Rogers and keep him.. If he performs well this year, then we give him the contract he is worth.. We can't expect Tryon and Barnes to be the replacements; Tryon is best as nickel, nothing more.. We haven't seen anything from Barnes, literally.. Although SmootSmack hinted a while ago, that Barnes becoming a starter is a possibility..

Rogers has simply not lived up to expectations. He's just an average to below average NFL cb who can't catch and gets beat too much. But we need him cause what else is out on the street that's better?
