Eagles release B. Westbrook, per NFL Network
Don't have a link right now. It is a scroll at the bottom of their channel.
Also, during the Warpath outage, I'm sure everyone knows but just reiterating in a thread, LT was outright released. Chargers bid farewell to L.T., who says he's not done playing yet |

A lot of big names hitting the street. Washed up names that is.

Re: Eagles release B. Westbrook, per NFL Network
Portis needs to join them

+5 Seriously though, the Redskins might take notice of other teams purging themselves of over-paid, worn out players. I wonder now if he will retire, with his concussion concerns, among other things... |

Yup. It's amazing how fast NFL running backs hit the proverbial wall. Guys like LT, Westbrook, and Alexander went from dominant to done in a very short time. |

I think what's more amazing, is that at one point, Westbrook was THE number one weapon that the Eagles had both in the running and passing game. Westbrook was definitely a game changer. It'll be interesting to see if he has anything left in the tank and whether any team would take a chance on him given his concussion problems last season. |

Portis points to LT as the reason he shouldn't full participation in mini-camps and training camp. Now the Skins can point to LT as the reason to why he should be doing those things. |
Re: Eagles release B. Westbrook, per NFL Network
Does that mean we can release B. Westbrook too?
|
Re: Eagles release B. Westbrook, per NFL Network
considering our B. Westbrook has had 2 arrests already in Shanahan's short tenure as HC, i would say its pretty likely...

LT hitting the wall had nothing to do with off season/pre season stuff. CP is just crying like a baby like he always does cause he's lazy and doesn't want to train. |
Re: Eagles release B. Westbrook, per NFL Network
I think Westbrook has some mileage left and is worth looking at as a part time player. LT is just done.

Re: Eagles release B. Westbrook, per NFL Network
LT or Westbrook? Who would you rather have of the two?

Assuming we're talking about a limited role only, I would take Westbrook. But only if he's 100% back from those concussions of course. |

I feel the exact opposite. LT doesn't have the breakaway pop he used to, and neither does Westbrook. But LT doesn't have concussion issues. |
Re: Eagles release B. Westbrook, per NFL Network
He's made of glass and McCoy is a younger, healthier clone of him.
Please don't come to the Redskins. |
Re: Eagles release B. Westbrook, per NFL Network
Ill take Dexter McCluster from Ole Miss 2nd or 3rd round pic

Re: Eagles release B. Westbrook, per NFL Network
I'm not trying to Skins bash but just trying to compare and contrast the styles of competitive teams in this league against ours.
The Eagles organization basically cut their best standout offensive player when he was close to his peak, up or down. That had to be a tough decision for them to make but it was made and with no real dire consequences to them other than sentimental as they have young replacements ready to pick up that slack. The Eagles made a decision like this last year when they cut a pivotal defenseman in Brain Dawkins, yet their team as a whole still managed to make the playoffs. Where do you think we'd be next year if we, contractual consequences aside, cut Portis and Fletcher this offseason? Our hopes on next season would seem really dim compared to the more competitive teams in the league. Bottom line, to me, is we'll be more competitive NFL wide when we finally bring in the long overdue depth we've needed since the Snyder spending spree days. Here's to seeing our Skins grow deeper and stronger...Hail to the Redskins. |
Re: Eagles release B. Westbrook, per NFL Network
Word is that Portis will not be the next one released. Much to some of your dismay.
And no, I don't want Westbrook or LT on this team. CP has more to offer at this point than either one of those guys. |
Re: Eagles release B. Westbrook, per NFL Network
It has sounded like all along that Shanny plans to use Portis and thinks he can have success, IF he cooperates. If the Coach can install his Plug-and-Play RB system like he had in Denver, Portis, Alridge, Mason, Ganther, Betts, Tomlinson or even Matty (after P90X) could all be weekly 100 yd/game rushers.

Re: Eagles release B. Westbrook, per NFL Network
Not surprising that he was (or will be) cut. It was expected. What's shocking is that Byron Westbrook has an NFL job and Brian doesn't.
Maybe we could sign Brian Westbrook and have him pretend to be Byron during the week...who of course spends the week pretending to be Brian. Won't that be fun?! |

I never understood why if he was such a good "Brian Westbrook Clone" during those two weeks of the year why we didnt try gettin him a few carries during a game. Wit good genes, he prolly could have benefitted us more there than at CB lol |

The question (where Westbrook is concerned) Will anyone be willing to take a chance on a player that's suffered two concussions and has considered retirement as a result. |

Other than the incarceration for dealing cocaine and the recent surgery for spinal stenosis...I'm all for signing The Accidental Hero! |

Maybe with those two players they do more. |

???...They went to the NFC Championship last year and (technically) tied for first in the NFC East with an 11-5 record. They've been pretty solid year in, year out. They run a more scheme dependent structure than talent dependent one. Since 2000 the eagles have 103 wins in the regular season, we have 70 in that same span. That's a two perfect season disparity after 10 years. They've clearly been scheme oriented in that time where we've relied on a talent heavy format. ...Not going down on them but I have to applaud them for making tough decisions like cutting one of the faces of their franchise and believing they'll be a better team for it. |

I like Donovan, but I think this releasing of Westbrook is the first sign of a major rehaul in the works for Philly over the next few seasons. Donovan has peaked, and needs to be shopped around now to get maximum value. |

Re: Eagles release B. Westbrook, per NFL Network
Did anyone see the 11pm SportsCenter tonight? They thought they had Brian Westbrook on the phone. Scott Van Pelt was doing the interview. Whoever was on the phone pretending to be Westbrook said that they have nothing but respect for Andy Reid and the Eagles franchise, and that he will now devote the rest of his career to the worship of Howard Stern's prostate. LOL. SVP and Steve Levy's reaction was hilarious.
