Suffolk Chilli Fest

Sorry but I kind of hijacked the other thread (probably a good thing) so I figured I'd start a new thread. If any one lives around the Tidewater Virginia area our club is holding a Chili Fest/ Cook Off in Suffolk Va. on April 10th. The proceeds go to benefit local children with speech and hearing impairments. For more information or if you would like to send a donation please click on the link provided. We aslo are having a Cornhole competition which if your interested please let me know. We are also looking to sign up anyone who wants to enter the cook off.

Figures I'd spell Chili wrong in the title.

LOL!

I have been building graphs all day and the Y access on all of them requires millions as the title. Sometimes I spelled it with two L's and sometimes one.

This letter combo after time makes you go cross eye:

illi

Well tomorrow is the day and if anyone wants to come out I'll be happy to buy them a beer. Also I'd like to thank everyone who donated money to our club and we will use the money to help a child who has a hearing or speech problem. Looks like we have sold around 600 to 700 tickets so we could have well over a thousand people and I'm not sure if the guys know what its like to handle a crowd of that size. I have done something like this for anothe club and I have given them warning but not sure if it really sank in. I'll let you know how things go.

I will take a few pics if I remember my camera. As a club we will get plenty of pics because we have one person who is in charge of taking pics at any of our events.

Re: Suffolk Chilli Fest

Thanks. The weather will be perfect, we have sold a bunch of tickets, we have 20 chili teams (thats 10 more then last year), the beer truck is coming, the band is good, so I think we are all set. I just have 500 hot dogs and 500 brats to cook tomorrow so I'll be busy but they were donated so its all profit. I think this year we got this event over the hump. I'll let you guys know Monday.

I was going to say last weekend was probably a bit too hot, Chili is the last thing I want on a 90 degree day.

Well here is a little up date sense a few guys here sent us a donation. As of right now we made right at $6,500 after all the bills got paid. We still have $1,500 in corporate donations that we have not received but we are holding out hope those two companies still send us a check. This evene almost got scratched because last year we made $275 but we decided to give it one more try and it really paid off

Well not sure the whole story on that because a member my have jumped the gun some and spoke before a decision was ever made by the company. We have 4 to 5 local companies that suport us so if we get the money great if not we will probably get a donation when we have our gold outing.

I did convince the club that we need our own web site that people can see what we are doing and have done in the past. We could list our meetings and also have a pay pal account set up for people who would just like to donate money to the club. The bad news is they have put me in charge of this and I don't knw squat about setting up a web page.

I'll help you out; I can't say I'll have it done immediately due to having a full-time, non-related job, but it'd probably be fully functional before someone else from the group would, unless they're web-inclined. Get some ideas from the group as far as what you want and let me know.

Re: Suffolk Chilli Fest

I knew you offered in this thread but I didn't want to just come out and ask. I think our main office ofr our organiztion has stuff on their site that we can use when we set up a site and I'm going to give them a call Monday. All we are looking for is a site that tells who we are and what we have done over the years. We would like it so we can go in and post pics, list events and that about all we need. Oh, and we also want to do as you said and put a link to our pay pal account we will set up. I'll let you know what I find out after talking to our main office and thanks for helping us out.

tryfuhl 05-01-2010 05:53 PM

Re: Suffolk Chilli Fest

I'm the same way man, if I don't accept at the offer I'm not going to come back and ask either. A fairly static site is what it seems. We can integrate a calendar and photo gallery no problem, or do kind of an all-in-one approach with a Content Management System if you plan on frequent updates. I'll try to kick around some ideas as far as how things should be displayed, etc. The Paypal integration will be a breeze.

Not sure if this is working or not but I had to take some pictures of a customers house and I figured out how to email them and thought I'd try to see if I could post one. This is a pick from the chilli fest.

nope. you have to actually load the picture to the internet then post the link here, or atleast thats why i fgured out how to do. the easist way, and i'm saying that cause i figured it out, is to create an account with photobucket.com and load them there

I'll have to give that a try. I signed up for an account there today but when I hooked up my camera to the computer some program came up that allowed me to save them and then forward them as an attachment to an email. Thats a good start for me. LOL

yeah once you have them saved on your computer it's pretty easy to use photo bucket, and this is coming from a guy who types with two fingers :D

We had our chili fest this weekend and it went OK. I think I have finally convinced everyone to switching it to a BBQ competition. We really had a hard time again this year finding enough people to cook chili in the competition. I just think there are more places that cook BBQ and it will be allot easier to find teams. What do you guys think.

After looking at his pics I think I can get Monkfan4life to enter. Hell I might even sponsor him.

BBQ is more a spring food where chili in my mind is a winter food. Plus BBQ is meant to be eaten outside. People seem to be now a days to be more passionate about BBQ.

Re: Suffolk Chilli Fest

Our problem was not getting people to come to the event its finding teams to cook the chili.
