Holmes traded to jets.

No link I just heard it on espn radio that the steelers have traded santonio holmes to the jets for a 5th round pick.. Wasn't he the MVP 2 years ago in the super bowl ? Wow the jets are really looking like a sb contender

Re: Holmes traded to jets.

i guess they just got tired of his bs. i think he just failed a drug test which is going to give him 4 games off. plus all this drama w/ the night clubs stuff. nyc seems to be the worst place for a guy like holmes.

Re: Holmes traded to jets.

Santonio Holmes to the New York Jets for a fifth-round pick in this year's draft, sources confirmed Sunday night.

ESPN 1050 in New York first reported the story Sunday night. Holmes was contacted late Sunday and told that he was traded to the Jets, sources said.

Holmes

Holmes had recently been accused of throwing a glass at a woman in a lounge. No charges have been filed against him, and Holmes' lawyer, Adam Swickle, told The Associated Press a male witness has taken responsibility for tossing the glass.

Holmes was entering his fifth season with the Steelers and has 235 catches for 3,835 yards and 20 touchdowns.

Holmes was cited for marijuana possession, a misdemeanor, in Pennsylvania in 2008. The Steelers made Holmes inactive for the game following the incident and he subsequently apologized.

He was arrested on a domestic violence charge in 2006 in Ohio, but that charge was later dropped.

As a player, though, Holmes has the talent to be a No. 1 receiver. He was MVP in Super Bowl XLIII.

John Clayton is a senior writer for ESPN.com. Information from ESPN.com's Tim Graham was used in this report.

This is what ESPN says. I tried to post the link but it didn't allow me.

mand and for a 5th rounder too....shows you what the steelers think about him.

Re: Holmes traded to jets.

I think on the field it's a very good pick up for the jets, he's a solid number 2.. I think if somehow he can take care of the off field BS then it's a steal. I think the next wr to be traded will be Marshall. Interesting off season that's for sure

They should have asked us if we wanted him. I'm sure we'd of given our 4th this year and next years 5th.

Since we can't get to the Super Bowl we need players who have been there to tell our players and fans all about it. We could market our Super Bowl tandem of McNabb & Holmes...lol.

Classic buying low scenario. Who else do they have though? Hines Ward is getting up there in years, and Limas Sweed hasn't done a thing. Maybe they're really high on Mike Wallace? Holmes was a 25th overall pick a few years ago, is a legit deep threat, and was Super Bowl MVP just a season ago. A 5th rounder to me seems like they're dumping a bad apple for whatever they can asap.

Come on Skinny, you cant talk trash on our organization every time we make a move. If McNabb makes it to the PB and we are in the playoffs you won't be talking trash.

Interesting move by the Jets. I still think the Jets will take a WR relatively high in the draft because looking at that roster it's the one weak spot.

Like someone else said I think the Jets are the primary SB contender from the AFC. That defense will be unbelievable we the return of injured guys and addition of Cromartie. The offense can only get better too.

So happy watching people from Pittsburgh freak out. Yeah I know the Redskins and Steelers aren't rivals and it wouldn't be close the last few years if they were but there is a certain hockey team that I love to hate.

Ruhskins 04-12-2010 12:44 AM

Re: Holmes traded to jets.

Seems like a low-risk/high reward for the Jets. Now Sanchez has Braylon Edwards, Jericho Cotchery, and Dustin Keller to throw the ball while being protected by that all pro offensive line. Honestly, the only mistake I think the Jets did, was letting Thomas Jones go and downgrading to LT.

I guess the Steelers got rid of a troublemaker, but now they have no one for their troublemaker QB to throw the ball to.
Not quite. Wallace is AT LEAST decent, and can only get better.
Mike Wallace had 756 yards on 39 receptions and 6 TD's. Hines Ward got a 1,000+ yards last year, Heath Miller is healthy again, and they got back ARE who is a solid 3rd reciever.

They're fine at receiver. With that said this is a HORRIBLE trade. This is like reverse Vinny where instead of giving up to much you sell for to little.

The Jets on the other hand are starting to look like the Lions a couple of years ago with three quality recievers (Edwards, Holmes, Cotchery), a quality Tight End, and a young QB from the west coast. Hopefully it'll end up better for them then it did for Detroit. If Sanchez can't succeed with that receiving core and O-Line then he doesn't deserve to play in the NFL.

By the way, just like Pittsburgh to steal our thunder. Here we are celebrating the one week anniversary of the McNabb trade and their go the Steelers, so desperate for attention they trade their star receiver for a Ham Sandwich and a draft pick.

I don't think the Lions had a defense like the Jets do. Although, in order for them to succeed, Sanchez has got to be efficient with the passing game, since I think their running game won't be as good as last year's with just Shonn Greene (unless Leon Washington is healthy and LT doesn't decompose).

That's the difference between me and the blind homers of the world (Not calling you a blind homer). I don't see change just for changes sake and think the new numbers on our lottery ticket could hit the jackpot.

I see the variables put in front of me and compile the given scenarios and then sum up the likely outcomes. It may be unglamourous to do that since you can't enjoy the offseason Lombardi's with the rest of the crew but it gets me by.

BTW, I don't hate McNabb, he's at least likable even when he was an eagle. I also don't think that he sucks. I DO think that he was good playing under Reid and the eagles scheme...I just don't see that translating ounce for ounce to the Skins, and playing behind our dilapidated line will be sure to prove that.

A great move by the Jets, but is also a really good thing in my eyes for Santonio. Hopefully this will open his eyes big time. He will be a FA next year and with only 12 games to prove himself hes also going to have to make some off the field commitments too.

Also pft is reporting that the Stealers contacted “every team” out there. Obviously Shanahan has been willing to take some chances on potential “distractions” during his time in Denver, and now with Larry Johnson. To me, especially since the addition of McNabb, this is a vote of confidence to our current receiver corps and the soon to be rags to riches story of Marko Mitchell.

They better. Randel El won't be Holmes' replacement.

The NJ Jets are building up a great team around a bad QB, which could actually work.

RB, they're solid. LT may be a slight downgrade at this point from Thomas Jones and Leon Washington, but as a part-time back, he could do fine.

WR, they're solid with Braylon Edwards and Holmes.

O-line is the best in the NFL since The Hogs.

One of the better defenses in the league.

If Sanchez can turn his 20 INTs into even "just" 15, they could win it all. I never see Fez becoming a top NFL QB, but in a Trent Dilfer role, he could win.

Well if making the playoffs all the way into the AFC championship is looking bad, then you have ridiculous standards.

That being said, I think any offensive ineptitude shown by the NYJ last season probably just had to do by Sanchez' growing pains. Although, I think this upcoming season they should be fine and should be a contender unless Sanchez has a sophomore slump and/or LT and L. Washington breakdown.

The Steelers must have really been sick of his act because they pretty much threw him out with Monday's trash. Once Holmes is exposed to everything NYC has to offer it wont be long before he's in trouble again.

What style makes who look worse? The Jets have some legitimate threats on the outside. If anything they were already dangerous, now they are down right scary. Their run/ pas options have increased significantly. I would hate to be the team that has to defend that running game with those threats lined up on the outside.
