Round 4 Pick?

Provided there are no trades that affect our position, we have the 5th pick of the 4th round. I've listed SI.com's 5 Best Available players. Who do you want to see join the team?

Re: Round 4 Pick?

The tackles on our team, aside from Williams, are nondescript. Heyer is the only one with starting experience, but he also has sack-giving-up experience, which is not the direction we should be going. Bruce Campbell had a 1st round workout, but he really is a 4th round player. His measurables show that he could do well in a zone blocking system as well.

Re: Round 4 Pick?

Cam Thomas, DT, UNC - Big, strong, space eater at NT. Kemo isn't a long term solution and may not be 100%. With Thomas, Kemo, and Golston, Haynesworth stays at DE where he should be more effective in the 3-4.

Re: Round 4 Pick?

WR Mardy Gilyard, C Matt Tennant, or LB Eric Norwood....either of these I would be happy with...Bruce Campbell would be a good value here as well.

Shanny held a private workout with Gilyard at Skins park. Ive said all along Shanny is going to want his own guy at receiver, this is his chance to make that pick. If Gilyard is there, I think Shanny takes him.

Re: Round 4 Pick?

I think the majority of us would like Campbell, and assuming any team isn't moving up, he'll be there. If he's there (I think he will be be) he's easily our starting RT opening day. He fits Shanahans Zone blocking scheme, has good speed and lateral quickness, he's a big guy that can move in space (which MS likes), and can slide to LT if T. Williams gets hurt. Shanahan isn't afraid to take a gamble on talented players and I think he'll get the most out of Campbell.

Get Campbell, and you have two bookend OT's for the next 6+ yrs.

Re: Round 4 Pick?

campbell. im a terps fan, he has the athletic ability shannahan looks for in an o lineman, he can sit behind whoever we start at rt until hes ready.

campbells drop reminds me of duke robinson. once a top 10 potential pick dropped to 2nd round projection when the draft nears, then drops out of the 3rd round duke got selected in the 5th i beieve and ened up starting at seasons end. i wanted duke back then given how far he dropped. whod we take? henson instead?

campbell or a lb. seems cb got hit real hard already.

I wonder if Allen or Shanahan see any benefit to Evil Dead's local connection?

Oh yeah, I'm calling Bruce Campbell "Evil Dead" from now on. You should, too. It's pretty fun.

Re: Round 4 Pick?

I picked Campbell; but I could be happy with Tennant or Capers. Question is the poll who we want or who we think they will take? I could easily see MS/BA going QB or RB. I would like one more lineman here.

edit: ok, I just re-read the original comment, and see BrudLee was clear it's our choice. so Campbell Tennant or Capers.

I think a QB will be available later on. I can't see anyway Campbell makes it to the 5th rd.

Re: Round 4 Pick?

I know we will move down because we have more needs than we have picks.
My Redskins top options:

Bruce Campbell-T-Maryland
Ed Wang- T/TE- Vtech (convert to Tackle)
Kyle Calloway-T-Iowa
Matt Tennant-C-Boston College
Myron Rolle- S- Florida State
Kam Chancellor-S- Virginia Tech
John Skelleton- QB-Fordham
Dan Lefavour-QB-C. Mich
LeGarrette Blount -RB- Oregon
Jonathon Dwyer-RB-G. Tech
Eric Norwood- LB-South Carolina

Re: Round 4 Pick?

I would get Wang from Va Tech for RT

Campbell is a project but this is the time to take someone like that.

Any decent WR options out there? Can't rule out the Shanahans looking in that direction.

Unless we trade Chris Cooley, I'm not sure why Aaron Hernandez is on this poll. Don't get me wrong, I love the kid, but he's nowhere close to a need.

I dreamed last night that we took a WR at #103.

I personally would take Joe McKnight. Cam Thomas or one of the tackles also would be good picks, although I think we can still grab a good tackle in the 5th.

Totally agree. There are some spots on this roster I figured are set. One being our TE position. The only issue is that both Cooley and Davis are more pass catching TE's. However I thought we picked up a TE after M.Shanahan was hired that was more of a blocking TE?

OL, QB, and I think now WR might be a concern on offense. I could see us picking up whoever is still on the board and is best in those catagories.

OL- I'd take Campbell
QB- Crompton, Pike, and LeFevour are still out there. Sporting News has Crompton listed higher then the other two but I think M.Shanahan brought in LeFevour.
WR- Gilyard, M.Williams, and Briscoe interest me. Gilyard at 5-11 is like DeSean Jackson. M.Williams at 6-2 is like Antonio Bryant. Briscoe at 6-3 is like Kevin Walter of the Texans whom K.Shanahan used extensively.

Who knows what their planning on doing on defense? I'd like to think our DL is set right now unless we want to get younger and healthier. Otherwise I see LB, and FS as an issue. I'm not sure at this point who is best suited and is left on the board. Yesterday there was a run at LB, CB and S or so I thought.

I know some of you are high into character but I'm sorta interested in Blount the RB. He impressed me in the Pro Bowl. I could also see us picking up a FB, maybe.

Dude is a flat out stud and when I look at who is left...Gilyard is clearly the best player availible.

Surprise to hear Wang being mentioned...I didnt know Capers was still around, I'd probably take him over Bruce Campbell at this point.

Im feeling pretty good at this point with the amount of talent left actually. Tackle, RB, QB, LB, C...those positions still have some decent prospects

I don't think Campbell is going anywhere. Kinda sad that he was our starting QB and there isn't another team that wants him.

RedskinPete 04-24-2010 09:59 AM

Re: Round 4 Pick?

With the 4th pick Campbell would be nice but others like Mitch Petrus OG, Cam Thomas NT or Marcus Easley WR would do. If a LB or QB left in the 5th like John Skelton QB or Dekoda Watson OLB would be nice. Also Eric Olson G could fit the bill!

Re: Round 4 Pick?
I wonder if we'll be able to move Campbell today.
I was thinking that Campbell might change his address to Buffalo or Oakland today. If Shanny wil drop his asking price, now is the time. And neither of those teams have addressed their QB situation, and a QB taken now is a project, not a solution for the near future.

Re: Round 4 Pick?

Best available players, with the Skins pick in mind:

Anthony Dixon, RB, Mississippi State
Joe McKnight, RB, USC
Jonathon Dwyer, RB, Georgia Tech
Mardy Gilyard, WR, Cincinnati
Blair White, WR, Michigan State
Riley Cooper, WR, Florida
Dennis Pitta, TE, BYU
Aaron Hernandez, TE, Florida
Bruce Campbell, OT, Maryland
Selfish Capers, OT, BYU
Kyle Calloway, OT, Iowa
Sam Young, OT, Notre Dame
Matt Tennant, C, Boston College
Everson Griffen, DE, USC
Corey Wooton, DE, Northwestern
Cam Thomas, NT, North Carolina
Ricky Sapp, OLB, Syracuse
Eric Norwood, OLB, South Carolina
Perrish Cox, CB, Oklahoma State

But I think we're going to end up taking a safety

the really sad part is that our new front office really shit the bed on this one and took his trade value way down by getting mcnabb before moving jc, not to mention our old front office shopping him around last year, it really is a shame that we might only get a 7th for jc

Re: Round 4 Pick?

^ Nice post my only concern with Campbell is he's played LT and we now have Silverback. Can he move to RT? I love his size and I think he could take on some big guys with his size and strength alone.

and again I know we have a ton of talent at RB, Blount might be good to bring in also to take over next yr. But I'll admit that spot could wait till next yr. Our coach's are being extremely difficult to read. We know where our problems were last yr, but the coach's have made comments to some of those positions otherwise and they have supported some of those spots in FA.

If WR is a concern then any of the 3 I mentioned, Gilyard, M.Williams, or Briscoe.
ProFootball Draft says: Bottom Line;

M.Williams- He's a huge risk, but anyone who can straighten out Williams would be getting a very good deep threat.
Gilyard- At worst, he's a potentially great return specialist. Even if he's never a true starting receiver, Gilyard is capable of making an impact as a part-time player.
Briscoe- His measurable will be hard to ignore, and he's the kind of field-stretching threat who will at least earn a role as a third receiver. But Briscoe might not be tough enough to be an every-down player.

Re: Round 4 Pick?

I don't like Riley's negatives....
Bites hard on fakes and lacks the agility or sudden redirection and acceleration to recover. Pass coverage isn't an asset and he might be moved to inside in the NFL, as he lacks the agility to turn and the straight-line speed to run with tight ends and backs. Not a pass rush threat, has marginal burst off the snap and limited technique. Lacks great speed in pursuit.
skinsnut 04-24-2010 10:33 AM

Re: Round 4 Pick?

2010 NFL Draft Prospect Scouting Report:

person
Perry Riley, OLB, LSU
After playing in a backup role at linebacker for his first two seasons at LSU, Riley exploded onto the scene as junior in 2008. He played in all 13 games -- starting eight -- and recorded 60 tackles. Riley, a finalist for the 2008 Butkus Award, was named Defensive MVP of the Chick-fil-A Bowl, in which the Tigers hammered Georgia Tech. As a senior, Riley finished second on the team with 97 total tackles, including 4.5 for loss.
Riley has good size at 6'1 and 245 pounds. He has the look of an inside linebacker, but his instincts are not the best and he sometimes gets caught by the play-action pass. Riley also has good speed and has been clocked as fast as 4.53 in the 40-yard dash, although he generally runs that distance in around 4.60. He played weakside linebacker in Baton Rouge, but the speed and athleticism might not be there to play the same position in the NFL. As such, Riley could be a risky pick as teams consider him to be in between the those two spots on the defensive side of the ball. Still, he has the talent to emerge as a solid middle linebacker after spending a season or two as a backup. Look for him to go off the board in the fourth or fifth round of the 2010 NFL Draft.

I agree. If you ask me this is the most questionable pick in the draft at this spot. Not just ours. From what I'm reading on him I would have questioned whether he would have even have been drafted. One magazine had him projected for the 5th round.

Again we reach too high for a questionable player. Hell I'd have taken any of the OL we mentioned, Any of the WR's we mentioned, hell even the RB's we mentioned and we don't need RB's.

Re: Round 4 Pick?
The Raiders just took Bruce Campbell...I'm really pissed off.
I was just going to ask if the Skins thought he would not get drafted or would fall farther down. Again my only concern was the experts said he doesn't bend his knees and gets beat because of it. He would have to work on that as well as learn to block from the other side. That might have been a stretch for him. But I would have prefered they take an actual RT over Riley.

They must be happy with the thought of using the other Tackles we have on the right side.

freddyg12 04-24-2010 10:41 AM

Re: Round 4 Pick?

After reading about Riley, the pick makes more sense, they will probably look to use him as an ILB. Still, if you want to take a guy that is a "project" B. Campbell seems to have much greater upside.

RedskinPete 04-24-2010 10:41 AM

Re: Round 4 Pick?

Campbell when to the Raiders. Well now who plays RT? Anyway I don't think that Oakland is a good place for this Maryland player.
