Worst Redskins QB in the past 20 years
I was doing some thinking and reading (I'm bored at work today) about our QB situation and was people to weigh in on the worst starting QB (more than 2 starts) we have had over the past 20 years.
In order of patheticness I would like to offer: 1. Heath Shuler 2. Mark Brunell 3. Danny Wuerffel 4. Cary Conklin (I don't know if he fit the 2 start criteria, but he was horrid) 5. Gary Hogeboom (ah, the Richie Pettibon era) 6. Tony Banks 7. Shane Matthews 8. Stan Humphries (although he led the Chargers to a SB, he sucked in WAS) 9. Jeff George 10. Gus Frerotte (the head butt alone puts him on the list) Thoughts, additions, ommissions? |
you put heath shuler above brunell? really?

Just take a look at Brunell's career. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/games/BrunMa00.htm#2004 Then take a look at PRam's. The two QB's beginning is pretty similar except for the mobility of Brunell. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/games/RamsPa00.htm#2003 Ramsey has to start NOW!! Why Brunell keeps getting the nod from Joe and Co. is beyond me. |
I agree that Tony Banks should be on the list but not at #6, maybe #10. I mean think about it, he wasnt great but he was better than Jeff George, Matthews, Frerotte, and Humpheries. Tony did what was asked of him, and if you remember that season George was fired after his second game, and Tony at least played us to an 8-8 season. They others I am pretty sure had loosing seasons for us.

those were shuler's 1995 stats, sorry
you put heath shuler above brunell? really?
To be honest, I went back and forth between the two of them.. I put Shuler because he was young and never got better. I think Brunell was damaged goods when we got him. |
i hear ya. i still sport my shuler jersey to this day! lol
|
I think we should take into account the management decisions when thinking abour Brunell and Shuler.
We drafted Shuler with a top-five pick; but we traded a 3rd rounder and signed Brunell to an 8.6 million dollar signing bonus. Which hurts us more? I think in some ways, Shuler does - considering we could have gotten a blue-chip prospect with that pick, and also, we began to look at him as a savior. The cap room hurts with Brunell, but no one had huge expectations about him and are definately not building the team around him. |
I definately think jeff george should be on there
|
Great call by Gibbie to go out and get a terrible terrible QB for a huge sum of money and a trade pick....assclown! :banghead:

Dude, do you make the effort to make an ass of yourself or does it come naturally? |

Nice sarcasm!! Does it really matter how much we moan and complain about how BAD and AWFUL brunell is? Gibbs is gonna start him no matter.. He did the same thing when theisman was playing bad, the only thing that saved him was the fact that he got injured!! I have enormous respect for Gibbs, but this is too much for me to bear. Even he has acknowledged that he has no faith in brunells arm or QBing talent, but still remains stubborn enough to stick with him.. THIS IS RIDICULOUS!! Does he have anything against Ramsey? Ramsey is the future, so he acknowledges but yet he is not willing to see what that future holds.. with brunell our offense is very one dimensional.. e'body knows he can't throw even if his life depended on it.. I don't see us making the playoffs, so why not see what Ramsey can do and whether he is the future or not.. Will that's enough ranting from me.. HTTR!! |
I don't remember Hogeboom playing for the Redskins. I thought it was Rich Gannon during Petitbon's year

You know what, Hogeboom wasn't during Pettibon's year. Hogeboom played in a playoff game for the Redskins back in the early to mid 80's. I couldn't edit the posting.. |
I dont think Banks should be on this list at all-
he was 8-6 as a starter. He didnt lose games for us. If it wasnt that that fucking fake punt vs the Bears we probably a playoff team that year. |
Let's take our top 5 and put it to a poll.
I'm going with Heath. We never really recovered from that pick. |
what about john friez, casey weldon, babe laufenberg.
and the worst redskin ever(not just the last 20 years) is Dick Shiner for obvious reasons. |
Frerotte should be on there simply for the head injury, and I think Jeff George should as well.
|
How about Jeff Hostsetler? He pretty muched sucked for us. Shuler was horrible as well but at least he was a rookie!Banks was ethier hot or could. And Jeff George was well Jeff George. Now for in Guss we trust? I think :banghead: say's it all.But I think Brunell takes the cake! It makes me literally ill wacthing him play. And I am not joking! I hope Gibbs will make a change soon.
I mean come on how long will we have to take this? Can't Mark just sprain his ankle or somthing! :httr: |
I was 9 at the time, but I never got the feeling with Heath that I have with Mark right now. It's proboly just my knowledge of the game, but I never got to experiance how bad Heath was. Let me just put it this way.... Mark Brunell has done NOTHING as our quarterback to help us win. I mean theres no better way to put it, he just dosent do anything to swing the tide in our favor. Maybe if we complete a pass over 20 yards I might think he is somewhat of a threat, but he just dosent have it anymore. Its seriously like its 10 on 11 when we take the feild, and we have someone to just hand off the ball.

Gary Hogeboom never played for the Redskins during the regular season but his stats for the 82 loss were not that bad.
17-31 | 14 29 162 2 2 | 0 0 0 I would pick any Tony Banks at the Top. Jeff George did have a cannon but just did not play with in the system. HEath, remember Norv just threw him into the fire. Brunnel should be there if you don't go by his carrer and only his redskin carrer. And lets not forget everybodies favorite last year Rob Johnson. |
god, i hated rob johnson, he acted like such a punk... he got what he wanted though...

Banks was also the last QB to beat the Eagles, which should earn him some praise. I was no Marty fan, but i bet he could have gotten them into the playoffs with one more year. |
