Re: Clinton Portis Interview-Part II
Poor, poor Clinton. He's so misunderstood. :bs:

Re: Clinton Portis Interview-Part II
i miss this Clinton Portis, but was it the line or does Portis have an extra burst?

Re: Clinton Portis Interview-Part II
He was younger and healthier back then. That was ages ago for a RB. If he's in tip top shape he could recapture some of that.
|
Re: Clinton Portis Interview-Part II
I miss those days...where Portis could break one at any moment ... sigh.

we really need a young rb to come in and step up this year, thats why i would have loved to take best in the 7th, but oh well, atleast noel devine is coming out next year :) |
Re: Clinton Portis Interview-Part II
do you realize how many of those runs were against the Rams, TB, and Detroit. Watch it looking at the opponents... and like Matty said, alot of those were 4+ years ago. I hope that if we have a stable line our RB production will go up a ton. With our OL and scheme last year its not surprising our RB production was lacking

Ryan Torain and Anthony Alridge! |
Re: Clinton Portis Interview-Part II
Cp spends a.......GREAT deal of time explaining how his actions are misunderstood. The level of persecution he must deal with regarding his comments and actions.
SEE, we have no room for...another TO. I truly hope he can shut his mouth, and....remember how to be a successful back once more, cuz this tired ass story has...jumped the shark |
Re: Clinton Portis Interview-Part II
Portis has been coddled here ever since he arrived in that trade. Now, he is no longer coddled, but he's either coming real close to the end of the line or he has already reached it and can now only take what the OL gives him.
|
Re: Clinton Portis Interview-Part II
God I couldn't read that. It seemed like the first part was ok, but the second part was simply unreadable. Clinton this, Clinton that, this was blown out of proportion, that was blown out of proportion. I can see from the other responses in this thread that I'm not the only one that feels this way.

For a player who proclaims himself a team player, throughout the interview there's an inordinate use of the ninth alphabet of the english language. |
Re: Clinton Portis Interview-Part II
Portis has several things going for him now as a Redskin. We've got a coach who commits to building a real o-line and using a stable of backs. CP's overall workload should go down significantly and he should get better blocking than he's had through most of his tenure w/ the Skins.
If his body is still capable and his head is in the right place I could see him have a big season...maybe 1000 yds, but again on fewer carries. |

what on earth made you think that Best would be there in the 7th? |
Re: Clinton Portis Interview-Part II
Im sick of his BS. He thinks he can go down as one of the greatest RBs ever? lol. He was amazing at one point, but he is washed up like the rest of our RBs.
Im hoping for some kind of zone blocking miracle. |

Re: Clinton Portis Interview-Part II
Portis 2002-06 was probably the quickest or 2nd quickest (nod to LT) player in and out of his cuts in that timeframe. He never was a great vision back (aside from that excellent cut in 2004 against TB).
Portis 2007-2009 has been one of the least elusive backs in the NFL. He's still got some power in his legs to run through an arm tackle, but really, really needs a powerful line that doesn't allow penetration to be able to get those long seams. Regardless of what happens in 2010, he's just a part timer from here on out. |
Re: Clinton Portis Interview-Part II
Once an NFL running back turns south...... east, west and north get scratched off the compass.

One might further hope a slimmer Portis will cut better than the heavy/injured Portis of the last couple years. Basically I tend to think CP is a fairly bright guy who wants to play longer and augment his stats/reputation/legacy as the greatest back to wear the B & G and one of the greatest of all time. If your analysis is accurate Tripp, which I believe it is, we should expect CP to embrace the transition to a different king of running strategy/scheme. |

Admittedly, he has lost a step, but the key to a good RB in the Zone Blocking scheme is a single, DECISIVE cut upfield. I'm hopeful that if our O-line executes the scheme well, Portis can still be a 1,000 yard back sharing carries with LJ. The biggest key is the O-line play, as they were the weak link that destroyed the offense for the last year and a half. |

How soon we all forget, it was a year ago, before the injury (head) last year, he had pro bowl numbers. It's not like he has missed two or three years in a row and had bad seasons...... |
Re: Clinton Portis Interview-Part II
Thats the problem with CP, its always all about CP. The new coaches need to get rid of these me first guys.

The first 8 games of the 2008 season is a long time ago my friend. Since then he's been banged up and very mediocre. He's got something to prove. |

Portis only has one Pro Bowl appearance in B & G. At this point Portis would need to basically carry the Skins on his back to a SB win before he's even in the discussion.

I absolutely agree. His yards have been some of the most ineffective in terms of wins that I've seen. Does he ever score? You could say the whole offense doesn't score but Portis is a part of that. |
Re: Clinton Portis Interview-Part II
thanks for posting the highlight reel. That run v. philly in 05 was his best td as a skin IMO. Many of his highlight runs are thru gaping holes though.
Although I've been very critical of him, as many of us have, I'm still rooting for him to make a comeback & get the starting job. I don't think he's gonna carry it 20+ even if he wins the job, but I'd still like to see him have great success & end his career here. In the process, he might actually grow up & learn to think first, then speak. |

Haven't forgotten, but you have to remember that just after those "pro bowl numbers" he was feuding w/Zorn & just starting to make his mouth a bigger part of his game than his legs. |

ANd just how many clutch situations has he been in with this franchise? I thought he looked pretty good towards the end of 07 with the last playoff run. |
Re: Clinton Portis Interview-Part II
Portis does seem to trip over his own feet or run into the back of his blockers at the goal line. It ain't pretty.
|
Re: Clinton Portis Interview-Part II
I am still a huge Portis fan and really hope he puts all the negative talk from fans behind him. I love how he changed his style to fit whatever the coaches asked him to do, for the team.

I think that comes with the territory when you don't practice with the team at all. There's something to be said for the chemistry improvement we saw when Betts took the field in the Atlanta game last season, if you notice, even with a patchwork line he still seemed to be more patient and confident that the gap would appear, and it often did, even Cartwright was able to show that he had some rapport with the line, it comes down to practice. We always hear about receivers and timing with a QB but the same relationship is necessary between o-lineman and RBs. |

I absolutely agree. Practice IS important whether Mr. Portis thinks so or not. |
