Brian Westbrook Meeting with Redskins on Wednesday
Could be nothing, but thought it was new thread worthy for now

Re: Brian Westbrook Meeting with Redskins on Wednesday
Interesting, but the backfield already seems pretty crowded.
|
Re: Brian Westbrook Meeting with Redskins on Wednesday
Injury waiting to happen. We already have Torain for that.
|
Re: Brian Westbrook Meeting with Redskins on Wednesday
If BW comes, my guess is parker would be the odd man out based on contract structure.
|
Re: Brian Westbrook Meeting with Redskins on Wednesday
Even without Westbrook, I still don't see Parker making the final roster (wishful thinking? perhaps)

Re: Brian Westbrook Meeting with Redskins on Wednesday
By the way, I apologize for the thread title. I know it doesn't fit with the current theme on the WP.
However, "Brian Westbrook ain't getting paid a dime by the Redskins yet he can still find time to meet with them, but Mr. $100 Million is too selfish to be with his teammates for 3 days?! Explain that bitches!" was too long a thread title |

Re: Brian Westbrook Meeting with Redskins on Wednesday
When will we sign Barry Sanders and Eric Dickerson? Heck, let's sign Cliff Battles and Jim Thorpe while we are at it.
I am being facetious but we sure seem to want RB's who are long in the tooth. |
Re: Brian Westbrook Meeting with Redskins on Wednesday
Yes, this sounds like more Dan Snyder Fantasy Football again. Please no!

Re: Brian Westbrook Meeting with Redskins on Wednesday
Shanahan probably noticed at least one of the running backs was not working nearly hard enough so he is looking to bring someone in that will work their ass off like proper NFL players do.
Westbrook is probably just a warning shot across the bow of ParkerPortiJohn. If he notices you are not 100% commited the new general's attitude if GTFO! |

With old guys (already).. |
Re: Brian Westbrook Meeting with Redskins on Wednesday
I think McNabb told Westbrook that there is something special going on here and it will give him the opportunity to play with his brother once before he retires. I don't think we will sign him but if we do in an UNCAPPED year we will keep all four backs.

Re: Brian Westbrook Meeting with Redskins on Wednesday
I think Parker was a long-shot to make the team from the start. If Westbrook is healthy, i think he's essentially garaunteed a rosterspot and Portis and Johnson battle it out to be the other veteran RB. Unless something crazy happens, i cant see keeping a 3rd RB who doesnt play special teams.
|
Re: Brian Westbrook Meeting with Redskins on Wednesday
Pass
|
Re: Brian Westbrook Meeting with Redskins on Wednesday
I'd rather have Brian Westbrook than Parker, but I don't think I'd really want Westbrook anyway. When healthy he'd make a great pass catching 3rd down back, but how often is he healthy?
And if signing him means we're also keeping Byron Westbrook...well then, just shoot me now |

Wow! I don't know about that one BHA, the Rams didn't even offer him a contract. I think this team is in need of RB's, but of the younger more talented/durable variety. |

well, i honestly dont get the impression that westbrook is healthy, so the point is probably moot. |
Re: Brian Westbrook Meeting with Redskins on Wednesday
McNabb & Westbrook in b&G, too weird! Already weird enough w/#5 here.
this looks like another due diligence move by the FO & Shanny, might as well take a look at the guy. I agree w/most here who question Parker's ability to make the team, and I also don't see Westbrook making it even if signed. I hope its CP, LJ & a rookie come sept. 12. |

Actually, after he passed his physical with the Rams, some reports made sound like it was Westrbrook's decision of whether or not to join the team. Report: Brian Westbrook passes physical with St. Louis Rams - ESPN |

I hear you, I would love a circa 2006 version Brian Westbrook. I just haven't seen that guy for a few years. His injury time has been steadily rising. |
Re: Brian Westbrook Meeting with Redskins on Wednesday
I'd rather have Brian Westbrook than Portis....Come on guys seriously a Westbrook/Johnson combination could be too much for most teams if both of these guys are healthy!!
|
Re: Brian Westbrook Meeting with Redskins on Wednesday
as of now, without getting to see what johnson, portis or parker look like in preseason and training camp, id welcome westbrook into the fold as well.
i think portis is going to be here and probably be the most productive back of the four, but i think its a toss up btw johnson, parker and westbrook if he is signed. If westbrook is cleared to play, i could see him beating out johnson and parker. johnsons's contract has a little more staying power than parkers who isnt guaranteed a thing, so that might play into consideration as well. i dont see any downside to bringing westbrook in. if healthy, he could be a serious weapon. thats a big if, but even getting 12 or so games out of him wouldnt be a bad result. |
Re: Brian Westbrook Meeting with Redskins on Wednesday
playing sparingly Westbrook is very dangerous.
|
Re: Brian Westbrook Meeting with Redskins on Wednesday
Westbrook hasn't even been remotely healthy for almost 4 seasons. No reason to think he could be now. I'd love to have Westbrook ala '05-'06 but not so much now.
|
Re: Brian Westbrook Meeting with Redskins on Wednesday
He's finished. Portis is on a mission to prove people wrong. He's far better. The same applies to LJ, who has far less mileage on him than Westbrook. Parker may even be better than Westbrook at this point.
I'd pass. He's consistently been an injured player. I won't even call him an injury risk, because it's a lock he'll get hurt, every year. Westbrook somehow passed a physical in St Louis in late April. They're still interested and he'll probably go there...he may not have any other options to choose from. |
Re: Brian Westbrook Meeting with Redskins on Wednesday
At this point in his career BW is a 3rd down back which will probably help him stay healthier.
|
Re: Brian Westbrook Meeting with Redskins on Wednesday
Umm, why?
I presume Brian wants to be on the team with Byron but our back field is stacked with old guys, and I was hoping we could keep one of the new Rookie guys for the PS. Now unless he's being brought in to compete and all know they have a chance to be knocked off the team then I don't see why we need to bring him in. Bring him in and make sure from Portis on down they know the best RB's will be on the team. Maybe Portis will work harder knowing that even though he's got a nice pretty contract, it doesn't mean squat. |
Re: Brian Westbrook Meeting with Redskins on Wednesday
I would welcome this move. Weird as it may seem to have BW and DM in Washington, we would have some winners on our team. Guys who know what it takes to win in the NFC East. Good mentors for this club. We didnt have any of those guys on this club last year. There are guys here who want to win, but they haven't. This club is prime tobreak out of that mold.
I am so ready to be proud to be a Redskins Fan again. Bringing in Brian is a wierd mesage to send to 3 proven NFL backs and some young guys. Now I know the three headed tandem back there has something to prove, but this could be a 3-4 headed monster awaiting to waken. I could see this being one of the greatest Backfields in NFL history. But I calm my enthiusiasm for a bit. There are strong possiblities here though. |
Re: Brian Westbrook Meeting with Redskins on Wednesday
This is just my opinion but I think CP is going to get cut sometime within the near future. Otherwise why bring in/ look all these high profile backs? As soon as CP doesn't get his carries he's going to be a total cancer, as will LJ so one of these guys is going to go. My guess it's CP.
|
Re: Brian Westbrook Meeting with Redskins on Wednesday
^ Winning could cure all attitude problems. I don't see Portis getting cut this year.

And since his role wouldn't be full time I could see BW playing a few more years and not making a hissy fit about it. CP is not going to be quiet about being a part time back. |

He hasn't made any noise about it so far. What is going to change? |
Re: Brian Westbrook Meeting with Redskins on Wednesday
I imagine "Hissy Fit" is considered a negative personality trait in Shanny's mind?

One of the more intriguing training camp questions will be not only which RB starts for Redskins, but which ones don't make roster. about 1 hour ago via UberTwitter |
