Where was the D today?

Palmer is throwing well, Rudi Johnson has grinded out some tough yards, what gives?

Gmanc711 11-14-2004 06:53 PM

I actually thought they played a pretty good second half. They were absolutley horrible in the first half.

MTK 11-14-2004 07:00 PM

unfortunately it was 17-0 before they adjusted

Daseal 11-14-2004 07:15 PM

Yeah, they were slow to get started. Honestly, they'll have bad games with the injuries we have =/

jamf 11-14-2004 07:15 PM

the first half the didnt play well but keep in mind that we had a turnover that gave them great field position. also, the offence went 3 and out the first half so they never had time on the sideline to make an adjustment.

and... someone teach taylor to tackle with his body not his arms.

Redskins_P 11-14-2004 07:15 PM

Cincinatti did a good job of picking up our blitzes, and our corners got exposed today. I think we did a decent job against the run...

VTSkins897 11-14-2004 07:26 PM

yeah and with 17 pts ur odds are good against an offense that's scored a high of 18 yah

RedskinRat 11-14-2004 07:26 PM

Taylor had a few embarrassing whiffs too.

SKINSnCANES 11-14-2004 07:29 PM

atleast ramsey is qb now. you have ot expect him to take a little while to adjust to starting. but if he gets the reps all week we could turn things around now. Being able to stretch the field will give portis bigger wholes to run through too. We probably wont make the playoffs but mabye we can get some momentum going into next season

Redskins_P 11-14-2004 07:29 PM
Taylor had a few embarrassing whiffs too.
Yeah, but he ended up with 7 tackles and an INT.

Gmanc711 11-14-2004 07:34 PM

I'll tell you who is stepping hte hell up is Ryan Clark. He played really really well today.

Redskins_P 11-14-2004 07:35 PM
I'll tell you who is stepping hte hell up is Ryan Clark. He played really really well today.
Hell yeah! And Pierce played solid too.

Winskins 11-15-2004 11:19 AM

Did any of you all see Taylor obliterate Johnson...that was sweet!

Redskins_P 11-15-2004 11:25 AM

I saw on another website where that guy Houshmanzadeh called Taylor a punk for some reason. I think they had a little scuffle at the end of the game. Did anyone else hear this?

Redskins_P 11-15-2004 11:26 AM
Did any of you all see Taylor obliterate Johnson...that was sweet!
Yeah that hit on Rudi was awesome. So was the one Ryan Clark layed on him. He bounced backwards and came up short on the first down.

joehardee 11-15-2004 11:29 AM

yeah but when your defense is on the field majority of the time . then that can be a problem

SmootSmack 11-15-2004 11:59 AM

I heard the same thing, but don't know any details

diehardskin2982 11-15-2004 12:09 PM

The reason the d was weak in the first half was because we lost a major part of the d in griffin leaving with an injury
The reason the d was weak in the first half was because we lost a major part of the d in griffin leaving with an injury
I was just about to mention that diehard. Did you guys see how much time Palmer had? He could've sat back there on a rocking chair.

JoeRedskin 11-15-2004 01:38 PM

Watching the D the first half, they seemed to lack a little fire out of the gate (the interception notwithstanding). I wouldn't be surprised if they just came out a little empty, nor would I blame them. Even without their "A" game the entire way they hold yet another opponent under 20 points.

Sorry, this one was all on the offense - sometimes you gotta be able to count on your teammates and Skins' D just can't do that. I can imagine that gets emotionally tiring at times.

Skins4SB 11-15-2004 01:42 PM

Whats the latest news on Griffin?

MTK 11-15-2004 01:48 PM
Whats the latest news on Griffin?
I think he's having a MRI today and they'll go from there

aehs77 11-15-2004 01:50 PM

griffin is having an mri today for some hip problem

Redskins_P 11-15-2004 02:07 PM

Did everyone forget that our D caused 3 turnovers yesterday? They gave the offense opportunities, but nothing came out of it. You can't blame the D for that.

SmootSmack 11-15-2004 02:16 PM
Did everyone forget that our D caused 3 turnovers yesterday? They gave the offense opportunities, but nothing came out of it. You can't blame the D for that.
That's a good point. They really could have taken advantage of that Walt Harris INT to build momentum going into halftime and they squandered that opportunity

MTK 11-15-2004 02:31 PM

The D did create some turnovers but Palmer carved them up pretty good for the most part, it was easily the worst the pass D has looked all year. To Cincy's credit they seemed to do a pretty good job in blitz pickups, and Palmer simply made some nice throws at times.

RedskinRat 11-15-2004 02:50 PM

Any other offense could have turned those 3 turnovers into at least 9 -21 points. How deflating is it to every week give your offense the ball back only to have them go 3 and out? I wasn't surprised that they weren't as perky as they were previously. They seemed to perk up when Ramsey came in though.

skinsguy 11-15-2004 02:51 PM

If you look at the whole picture, momentum plays a huge part in how well our defense plays. The Bengals dominated in time of possession, which leaves our defense out on the field for a longer time. Our offense could not move the ball and Brunell had turned the ball over which caused the Bengals to have momentum to drive down the field and score. However, the upside is that the Redskins shut the Bengals' O down in the second half..not letting them score a single point. Again, it comes to our offense being so terrible right now. If our defense was scoring like the Colts, then 42-17 would reflect pretty well on our defense.

celts32 11-15-2004 03:24 PM

Terrible defense. No tackling, no pass rush, no covering. It's a miracle Cinci only had 17 points. To be fair though, Cinci did only get 17 points when all was said and done and this defense deserves the benefit of the doubt at least once. This defese has played well enough to be 9-0. With average or even slightly below average offense they would be 7-2.

That Guy 11-15-2004 05:19 PM

with half the starters essentially out for the season (maybe more than half), the D is going to play bad sometimes... they had their worst half this week, but even without griffin, they were able to bounce back. I just hope it doesn't happen again...

btw, taylor had some great plays... can't wait till he's consistant...

sportscurmudgeon 11-15-2004 07:46 PM

There is no question that the offense was awful yesterday - even AFTER Patrick Ramsey entered the game.

However, the defense gave the Bengals 17 points and 226 yards in the first half of the game. I don't care how inept the Skins' offense was yesterday; that cannot be called a stalwart defensive performance.

Why did Ramsey enter the game with a deficit on the scoreboard? It's because the defense allowed Carson "Bleeping" Palmer to march down the file on them and score touchdowns.

I doubt that Mark Brunell was put onto the defensive unit in disguise so you can't blame him for that. The defense dug the hole and the team couldn't get out of it.

backrow 11-15-2004 09:07 PM

Maybe it's me!

But I thought we got away from our running game. Did we lose any OL starters or anything?

Was Clinton not feeling well?

Brunell didn't have to be the starter, did he? Or is HOF Coach Gibbs still in love with him for saving his life the night they first met?

Do we still pay Brunell if he suddenly retires at the end of the season?

Did anyone see LDS (lildannysnyder) during the game?

Did we leave the home field advantage at RFK or in Reston?

Can we change our colors to "Buckskins" with the Feather up the back of the helmet now please?

Can we adopt a horse and call him "Warpaint"? Or "Spearfeather"? and have him ride around the field?

Will the egirls lay an egg next week?

Will the cowroids lay a big one in the "toilet bowl" tonight?

That was the worst I've seen our defense play this year, but the Bengals deserve some credit. They seemed to handle us very well on the line and Palmer was very sharp. They really had us offguard with the playcalling as well. I was disappointed in our tackling, especially Taylor. Also, I can't understand how they could let Chad Johnson get so open over and over again.

I give our D credit though, they did a great job in the 2nd half and gave us a chance to win the game (as usual). These guys have been a pleasure to watch all season. Kudos to Williams and I'm ecstatic that he plans to hang around for a while. I would have no problem with him succeeding Gibbs in a few years.

PS - Anyone seen Arrington?
PPS - RYAN CLARK IS PLAYING POSSESSED!!!!!!!!!!!! :FIREdevil
