Obama directs NASA to Improve Relations with the Muslim World
Are you kidding me?????
FOXNews.com - NASA Chief: Next Frontier Better Relations With Muslim World NASA exists to explore stuff, put rockets into space, and develop bleeding-edge new space/aeronautical technologies, not be a politcal/social engineering agency. Anyone who thinks Obama isn't an idealogue or that he has half a clue how to run the country needs to read this. I do some work for NASA that's probably why this article set me off. |
Re: Obama directs NASA to Improve Relations with the Muslim World
how the hell can better relations with Muslims improve our space program? or is this another rant by Fox?

Read the link, the statements are made by the Administrator of NASA on the direction he was given directly by President Obama. |
Re: Obama directs NASA to Improve Relations with the Muslim World
i read the link. until its reported by someone else, its just another rant. and if true, how can they help us?

Re: Obama directs NASA to Improve Relations with the Muslim World
It is odd but not that big of a deal. Bolden is right that in the future space travel will involve international cooperation, so there is nothing wrong with reaching out to other countries. We must have better people for such outreach than Bolden, however.

Really? If true, it is way far beyond odd and just further evidence that something is truly amiss in this admin. Even more disturbing is that a NASA administrator is now revealing Obama directives through Al Jazeera. Yeah, I find that a little odd. |
Re: Obama directs NASA to Improve Relations with the Muslim World
From the article, the NASA Administrator said "When I became the NASA administrator -- or before I became the NASA administrator -- [Obama] charged me with three things. One was he wanted me to help re-inspire children to want to get into science and math, he wanted me to expand our international relationships, and third, and perhaps foremost, he wanted me to find a way to reach out to the Muslim world and engage much more with dominantly Muslim nations to help them feel good about their historic contribution to science ... and math and engineering[.]"
Yes - Hard science, space exploration, and developing cutting edge tech - all take a back seat to making sure the muslim world feels good about themselves. <sigh> |
Re: Obama directs NASA to Improve Relations with the Muslim World
A NASA guy goes on Al Jazeera and attempts to ingratiate his agency to the station's Muslim audience, and from that we get the Obama administration is shirking its responsibilities to space exploration in favor of social engineering. Wow. If you are going to make a cogent argument you are going to have to deal with this on the level of material policy. What are the actual policies effecting the supposed change? Is there an actual funded program or is some guy just talking on TV? If there is a program, what is its cost? How is it funded? Most importantly, in what sense does it make things worse than they were before?
Perhaps an argument can be made, but no one is making it here. Stating that some immaterial modification of the stated objective of NASA is inconsistent with your notion of what the agency should be doing is not really worth much. |
Re: Obama directs NASA to Improve Relations with the Muslim World
sounds like they want funding from the Muslim world and from patting them on the back they might get it
that's what works with Muslims.. make them feel important and they will be more likely to put more money into something.. if you've ever been to a Muslim ceremony (especially weddings) this is put on full display |
Re: Obama directs NASA to Improve Relations with the Muslim World
What did you guys expect from a secret Muslim? And of course lets not forget how unhelpful those commie Russians have been since shuttle disaster. **** good will and all that bullshit they are our enemies. Oh and lets get out of that international spacestation parternship crap.

Just like you said, but I don't even think it's odd. If NASA is to be successful in future endeavors (i.e.: long-distance space travel), they cannot do it on their own. It will take the entire world to advance space travel beyond what it is today. Everyone else is pretty much on-board except for Muslim countries. So, let's get them on-board, and let's quit with the knee-jerk reactions. |

Well if its just another rant it was by the guy Obama picked to lead NASA and this was a direct quote from him. This is what you get from a past community organizer. I guess with our presidents we've had dumb now we have dumber. "When I became the NASA administrator -- or before I became the NASA administrator -- he charged me with three things. Re: Obama directs NASA to Improve Relations with the Muslim World
but this is ok?
Obama had nothing to do with this stamp, which was first announced during President George W. Bush’s administration, on Aug. 1, 2001, honoring two Muslim holidays, including Eid al-Fitr, the first day following the month of Ramadan, a period of fasting and religious observances. The stamp first came out at 34 cents, the prevailing first class rate at the time. It has been reissued several times whenever that rate increased. |
Re: Obama directs NASA to Improve Relations with the Muslim World
 This is what you schmucks voted for, congratulations! Sometimes you just have to laugh. Don't worry, the military industrial complex can still put up weapons platforms with their other un-manned, "secret shuttle".

The post office issues commemorative stamps for many different cultural things (including Toy Story 3 ) That has nothing to do with having NASA become a cultural fellowship mission. |

Re: Obama directs NASA to Improve Relations with the Muslim World
Latest FOXNews.com - Former NASA Director Says Muslim Outreach Push 'Deeply Flawed'
From the article: "NASA ... represents the best of America. Its purpose is not to inspire Muslims or any other cultural entity," Michael Griffin, who served as NASA administrator during the latter half of the Bush administration, told FoxNews.com. "Officials from the White House and NASA on Tuesday stood by Bolden's statement that part of his mission is to improve relations with Muslim countries -- though NASA backed off the claim that such international diplomacy is Bolden's "foremost" responsibility. "He also said that while welcome, Muslim-nation cooperation is not vital for U.S. advancements in space exploration. "There is no technology they have that we need," Griffin said. The former administrator stressed that any criticism should be directed at Obama, not Bolden, since NASA merely carries out policy." And I guess it isn't just pandering to Muslim nations for $$$$ "A Feb. 16 blog in the Orlando Sentinel reported that Bolden discussed the outreach during a lecture to engineering students. As he did in the interview with Al Jazeera last month, Bolden was quoted then saying Obama told him to "find ways to reach out to dominantly Muslim countries." He reportedly talked about the importance of helping countries establish space programs and pointed to the largest Muslim country in the world, Indonesia, as a possible partner. "We really like Indonesia because the State Department, the Department of Education (and) other agencies in the U.S. are reaching out to Indonesia as the largest Muslim nation in the world," he said. Bolden did not describe such outreach as his prime mission at the time." EDIT: The lecture was held at the National Academy of Engineering, National Meeting, on Feb. 16 in Washington, D.C. at the National Academy of Sciences Building. |
Re: Obama directs NASA to Improve Relations with the Muslim World
NASA engineers interact with Muslim students and faculty at Islamist countries? I just hope we're not teaching them how to build rockets and stuff. We really don't need NASA turning into the Peace Corps...things are just perfectly fine as they are...we hate them, they hate us...we kill them, they kill us...which ever comes first.

Well, in keeping with making people feel good and merging it with its mission to find alien life - NASA has decided to build a new space shuttle which will run between Tijuana and San Diego in order to help illegal aliens feel good about crossing the border. |
Re: Obama directs NASA to Improve Relations with the Muslim World

Only Obama would think its a good idea to teach the Middle East rocket technology. Its so bad its funny.

I wonder what other activities our....Space program might embrace?? |

This still doesn't seem like such a huge deal to me. Was it a big deal when W said he wanted to embrace international cooperation, particularly from Russia, in regards to space travel and exploration.

Well have you ever thought that wanting to join with Russia was in our interest because they have the space station we are using all the time. The only thing the middle east has been doing is trying to figure out how to get a rocket to fly a bomb over here or at Isrial. |
Re: Obama directs NASA to Improve Relations with the Muslim World
For those that can't get over it....this is not about W, or Barry O, or the next administration. This is a ridiculous (and wreckless use of tax dollars...especially now)directive for our.....Space Agency to proceed.
Administrator Charles Bolden said in a recent interview that his "foremost" mission as the head of America's space exploration agency is to improve relations with the Muslim world. |

It's this sort of backward thinking that fuels the fear-mongering of this news. |

Administrator Charles Bolden said in a recent interview that his "foremost" mission as the head of America's space exploration agency is to improve relations with the Muslim world.
That's my issue, as much as I have one, with it, not the "fear-mongering". IF NASA has a purposeful existence, it should be focused on practical application of engineering breakthroughs in order to achieve greater use of space for peaceful uses. Examples could include establishing moon based farming colonies, and the technologies which enable transferring people and goods to space based colonies. A good example of what it should not include is fostering international interest in math and science. We have several other departments and bureacracies whose funding is for the encouragement and development of educational awareness both nationally and internationally. |

Fear-mongering. Ok, then what type of rockets have the people in the middle east been experimenting with/on? How about its also not his job as head of NASA. |
