Down time things to talk/think about.

I can't wait for the opening of Training Camp but in the meantime I found this article on the net. What do you think? Please add other articles to it to keep the convo going. |
Re: Down time things to talk/think about.
I hope he is right. If we can stay healthy and either trade for a receiver or one of our receivers step up, i think we can be a very good team.
|
Re: Down time things to talk/think about.
I can't open the article via cell phone, but without reading it i ask why the hell not? And for all the naysayers and pessimists I just want to say the offseason is for hopes and dreams of this finally being the year. Rome wasn't built in a day, but why the hell cant we dream big after 6 months of coaching changes, a new front office, and a 50-45% roster turnover rate. We pieces in place, but do we have enough.

Re: Down time things to talk/think about.
I just saw that Jammal Brown will wear 69 for us and not 70..I guess thats because of Sam Huff..(?)

god, i cant wait for the season to start...

Re: Down time things to talk/think about.
It is nice to read positive articles about us, for a change.

Re: Down time things to talk/think about.
First it was the best OL, now winning the division, what's next someone picking us to win the Super Bowl?!

Re: Down time things to talk/think about.
B.S. headline.
"I think they’re going to challenge for the NFC East title next year." "I think they’re going to be relevant and challenge for the NFC East title." Big difference. |
Re: Down time things to talk/think about.
Seriously, some people need to cool down and not get into it too much.. Or otherwise they would be VERY upset and do something stupid if things doesn't go well for us this season.. I guess that's what we get for being Redskins (or NFL) hardcore fans..

Don't worry, I have my Kapipal account all set up, and I will get in touch with mlmdub about using his sign if we do anything less than 5-1 out the gate! |
Re: Down time things to talk/think about.
Every year there's a trendy (or as some would say "sexy" but I hate the use of such a word in football) pick in preseason from some of the media. For years it was Arizona, then they finally got somewhere.
I recall someone on nfl live saying that the Skins would be the surprise team of the nfc. I wouldn't be surprised if in the next month or so as predictions start rolling out that some will have us as that sleeper team. I would prefer that didn't happen, would rather we "sneak up" on teams. But w/Shanahan in charge there's quite a track record to look to, and his name alone brings some attention to the team. So I don't know that we could surprise teams much anyway. I'm still thinking 8-8 at best, if for no other reason I've learned to lower my expectations. Or maybe I'm just "staying medium" for now. |
Re: Down time things to talk/think about.
Well, on Sirius a while ago they looked at which team was most likely to be this year's worst to first, and we were consistently mentioned. I doubt any NFC East team will be sneaking up on any one this year. They all bring too much to the table, and yes, I include the Skins in that this year.

Matty let me keep my job but insisted I take a pay cut. I now make $0 instead of $0. :) |
Re: Down time things to talk/think about.
I have no real expectations, but I am a fan of the Skins. I don't want to doom us. We have a hard schedule, and new sytems on o and d. It's a learning process, but we could really get on a good roll after 4-5 games. Who knows where we will end up.
I could see us beating Dallas and Philly in the first four weeks and that could propel this team into something special. We will see. |
Re: Down time things to talk/think about.
Wow...the kool-aid is particularly strong this offseason. Am I the only one worried about these little facts:
1. Completely new coaching staff (top to bottom) 2. Completely new offensive system 3. Completely new defensive scheme + system 4. New quarterback working with our receivers 5. Rookie LT 6. RT coming off an injury Those are just the big things -- I know we have made some great moves and I am certainly a fan (check the avatar) but at this moment BEFORE THEY HAVE EVEN PUT ON PADS, personally, I would be very happy with an 8-8 finish. In fact, that would be pretty miraculous considering the factors, division etc. |

SmootSmack...you are the sole reason for this Kool Aid frenzy going around lol |
Re: Down time things to talk/think about.
Every team has questions this time of year, some more than others. A few things that make me feel ok despite all the changes:
1. We're in good hands with this staff. In Shanahan we have one of the better coaches in the game, Kyle is an up and coming OC, and Haslett is a respected defensive mind. 2. In McNabb we have a proven veteran QB who's been to 5 NFC Championships and a SB. He is very familiar with the pressure packed NFC East and will have a little extra something to prove this year. The WRs are a concern but McNabb got by with a lot less for most of his time in Philly. How about a 1-2 punch of Thrash and Pinkston... anyone? 3. The coaches must be convinced Williams can handle the LT spot just fine otherwise we would be hearing whispers of Brown being moved over. Brown's injury situation isn't a big concern to me. He was reportedly ready to come back during the season last year but the team decided they couldn't wait and shut him down. He's had plenty of time to heal up. All in all my expectation remains 8-8, with a possibility of 10-6 if things come together quickly. |

LT whom our FO thought was the best in a deep draft 6. RT who was a bargain if he regains probowl form, at worst he should be better than hicks at RT who can move to RG now. for the past few years on here i predicted 8-8 for us, give or take a game. years past the best we could hope for is a strong push at the end to ekk our way into the playoffs. now, idk man. i feel like we dont have this ceiling on us, sky is the limit if everything works out well. |
Re: Down time things to talk/think about.
We have to have to stay healthy. We do have an older team, but we have alot of talent. If we stay on the field, we can be 10-6.

Re: Down time things to talk/think about.
I realize some of you, well one of you, feel that nothing Schefter says about the Redskins should be considered since he is friends with Shanahan. And it is just one man's opinion..but as long as we're swimming in the kool-aid!
Clay (Charlotte) Adam, I know with the McNabb trade the expectations for Washington skyrocketed. But, as we saw last year, that offensive line is terrible and the Skins don't have nearly the weapons that Philly has. What should be the realistic expectations of Washington fans? Adam Schefter (10:17 AM) Funny you should ask that, Clay, because I just wrapped up a segment on Sportscenter in which I said the Redskins went from having one of the worst offensive lines in the league to now having perhaps the best offensive tackle tandem in the NFL. Trent Williams is going to be a star and Jammal Brown is a two-time Pro Bowl selection that is going to be superb in Washington. When a team has bookend tackles like that, it gives the offense the chance to do great things, and the team to succeed similarly Chat: Chat with Adam Schefter - SportsNation - ESPN |

And in the best scenario, there will be growing pains for the reasons you mentioned. I'm still (cautiously) hoping for that best scenario, though. I'm also hoping that the Cowboys get nowhere near a home Super Bowl date. |

What two cheerleaders will make out in a bathroom this year?
|
Re: Down time things to talk/think about.
I think we'll be one of those middling teams that wins or loses every game by 7 points or less. I love the personnel changes and the coaching changes, and especially the QB change. It's just a massive amount of change to go through.
So many players have to learn a new scheme, new teammates, everything. We're going to have a lot of mistakes. That said, we have our fair share of athleticism and leadership. So to me we could be anywhere from 6-10 to 10-6, with small margins of victory/loss every time. I see hope for the playoffs, but I wouldn't consider it a failure if we miss. |
Re: Down time things to talk/think about.
I think it was Rabach that said discipline can win you 4-6 games alone. Shanny's tight ship will make an impact for the good, from there it's a matter of just trying to manage through the change to pull it all together.

Anything will be better than last year. Sure, we'll take our lumps this year... just not as many as last year.

If there's one area where I have concerns, it's the defensive backfield. Other than some departures, I haven't heard of many additions that make me feel any better. Will Haslett alone be enough of a difference to turn this segment of the team around? I hope so. |

Haha...ouch. Go easy on him...right now, there's predictions ranging from 5-11 to 10-6 on this team so we are at a point where the best prediction about this team is that they are difficult to predict. |

Re: Down time things to talk/think about.
Screw it, I'm going to go out on a limb here and say there's a good chance we're going to win the Super Bowl. Right now I'm thinking there 3% chance of us winning it all but I'll have a better idea once the playoffs start.
Hail to the Redskins!!!! |
