Dez Bryant says " I don't carry anyones pads" lol

This is a rookie "tradition" so what do you guys think about Dez Bryant's reaction to Roy Wiliams? I actually like that mindset, Dez is basically saying he's nobody's bitch LOL. Roy better worry about carrying his own pads on the sidelines this season.

He's a rook, he needs to know his place. He's not going to make many friends with that type of attitude.

I'm sure he would have caved in to D.Ware or M.Barber, but I think this guy believes he is ready to play now unlike most rookies. I kinda like this because maybe this starts a rift between the two .

Well this guy better live up to his hype. So far no OKST WR's in recent years have done well in the NFL. I watched the guy quite a bit during his time at OSU, amazing athlete but that doesn't mean he will come in and be a star any time soon.

He won't be well received in the locker room... until he dominates. Production, and winning, changes everything.

Let's hope the Cowboys hate him all season long.

Let this be the beginning of a beautifully bad season for them. A rookie who thinks he's above everyone else. lol

I doubt Roy Williams has the clout in the locker room to make a big issue out of this. If other vets start piling on in the "step two" that he was talking about then maybe it makes a wave in the locker room.

Exactly. Roy Williams can't carry his own jock. He shouldn't be worried about anyone else chipping in. He's a gigantic bum. Skinsfaninnok is right- if D.Ware or M.Barber told him to carry their pads, chances are the answer would have been different. If not, Dez Bryant will be a bad seed for the Cowboys. Hopefully that will be the case.

Something tells me that if Bill Parcells asked Dez to bring him water during practice, he'd probably say yes. But then again, a rookie who has done exactly nothing that's already doing laps around the stadium high-fiving fans after PRACTICE may have some issues.

I'd love to see him and Roy Williams have a fist-fight during training camp.

Anyone else still smiling at how much Jerrah gave up to get that loser? LOL.

he has that potential for the knockout hit, Horton and Doughty might not.. Moore might..

i just actually read this @ espn before seeing this over here... I look at it like this. First let me say that I don't think Dez Bryant is a diva, egotistical, etc. kinda guy. I think he's actually a decent guy who just has a label on him because of all the stuff that's happened in the last year. And sure this doesn't paint him in a good picture.

But I kinda think it's just Dez's way of saying, R.W., you haven't done shit since you got traded to the Cowboys and I'm letting people know I plan on taking your job and proving you even more worthless than you already are. Sure this will probably start some beef between them, but it was probably bound to happen anyways. And I doubt this will be received too harshly with the other Cowboys, because odds are they don't like R.W. anyways and even though they might think it's wrong they probably also see where he's coming from because of R.W.'s lack of production.

And I'm also sure Dez Bryant is a prideful kinda guy, but there's nothing wrong with that. His teammates might not like him not carrying pads, but it's probably balanced out because they probably like how he started practicing 45 minutes early and they probably like everything he's done so far, and if he starts out great I'm pretty sure his popularity in the locker room will grow until nobody gives a shit that he did that to R.W.

I think the best way for Bryant to do this is shut his mouth, do what he's supposed to and outplay Williams. This really doesn't help him at all, but then again I really don't care. Hopefully this is a sign that the "label" he has is not too far from the truth and becomes another prima donna that will give the cowgirl headaches.

I remember watching an NBA documentary about rookies where they said that the more you resist the worse it's going to be for you. Looks like Dez is going to learn that the hard way.

It shouldn't matter who is asking him. Fact is Roy Williams has done more in this league than he has. I would bet more players will be siding with RW vs. Bryant. Should be interesting to see what step 2 is.

Re: Dez Bryant says " I don't carry anyones pads" lol

Now I cannot admit to hazing anyone or being hazed but I can say this. There are certain traditions in this world and I'm quite sure that Dez has hazed someone in some shape or form. It's not like these dudes have to learn information, or even go through the stereotypical forms of hazing. Carrying pads, paying for lunches and stuff. Man you're in the freaking NFL, have some fun with it. I've met and talked to folks who didn't want to "go through" and hazing, felt it wasn't that serious. It's character building in the sense that you humble yourself for a second if it is done the right way. You truly can build bonds with a group of folks that you are joining up with. His attitude is a I don't need to humble myself in anyway because I'm hard and I don't need this shit type of thing. With al that being said, it's kinda ironic that he's wearing the number of the King Hazer in Cowboy country (Irvin stabbing a guy for not getting out of the barber chair) but doesn't want to be hazed.

I say all of that to say this, **** the Cowboys !

Lol. I knew, as soon as I read this story online, that there would be a dedicated thread surrounding this.

I get a chuckle when I read posts about “Trouble in Cowgirl camp” about this. Trouble? Really? If this is a deep as the media has to dig to find something controversial to write about the entire Cowboys off season, then I surely welcome it. Bring it on.

So he refused to carry a vets pads. Where are the comments about Dez Bryant being the first player on the field for practice? A full 45 minutes before anyone else hit the field? Wheres the comments that Bryant was at the Alamodome ready for that first practice 2 hours before anyone else was there?

Where’s the comments that he was the first player that was selected in the, 1st round to sign?
How about when a reporter commented on how well this young man presented himself, the reporter commented on how he counted Bryant responding with “Yes SIR” 6 times in a five minute interview?

But when he refuses to carry shoulder pads for a vet WR whose only claim to fame is that he couldn’t catch water if he fell out of a friggin boat, THAT’S CONTREVERSY!?

Like I said, bring it on.

MonkFan nailed this...
This is a lack of humility thing.

Anyone not willing to lower their ego a bit for the sake of the team is likely to be prideful.

What does that mean?....me first, team second.

Does this affect ability...no...but it does affect team cohesion and trust...yes.

This issue sounds pretty familiar to Skins fans.

Re: Dez Bryant says " I don't carry anyones pads" lol

I have a problem with a rookie bucking the trend in the NFL. These rookies have to humble themselves a little in camp.

Remember last year when Orakpo was taped to the goal post. The shot of the other rookies carrying 10 helmets. This is just par for the NFL course. If he does not believe in it, I hope he isn't a hipocrite in coming years and makes other rookies do stuff for him. Which with the mobv mentality i am sure he will do.

It is just a part of the game, shut up and carry a set of shoulder pads.

I have to admit, I identify with this post a lot more than the general tone of this thread.

Bryant not carrying Roy's pads is a non issue when it comes to football. And it hardly indicates he's a TO personality in waiting.

Seems to be a bit big for his britches seeing as he's never taken a snap. That won't sit well with vets. Running laps around the alamodome high fiving fans seems a bit much too.

You keep using the word controversy (spellcheck is your friend btw). I don't see anyone screaming controversey except you. Bottom line is it's not positive and it's coming from Cowboys camp. This is a Redskins site. Why wouldn't we be all over this?

I don't see some big issue arising from this, or feel that the Cowboys are doomed cause Dez won't carry a set of shoulder pads, it is a indivdual problem with a player who feels as though he has already proven enough to win RW's job.

It was a topic of discussion on a Cowboys board as well... meh. It could (probably not) blow up in his face, but I do agree that I doubt this will make or break the Cowboys season. Now, one way it could is if it brought up some situation where JJ stuck his nose in, a la DS' meddling. Overall, any nuisance for the Cowboys is joy for me.

Good, nice to know it's working.

And I would not get too overly concerned about the Williams-Dez thing, like Williams said, he can go to "step two".

In other words, it is a player thing that will be handled by the players in the locker room. Im sure the other vets will step in as well.

Well sandtrap I can tell you that if this were a Redskins player this thread would be up to page 35 by now filled with posts of he's an idiot and he needs to be cut. I don't think this is a serious issue but it can be. If he produces then nobody gives a shyt, but if he has an issue then you will see this again. Just saying. But my feelings on teh refusal are still the same. Yes you are there to play football and to win games but don't take yourself so seriously. If it were something like "pay this $10,000 tab Rook" or "Yeah I stabbed his ass!, rookie should've gotten out of the chair so I could get a shape up" then I can understand. But bitching about carrying pads and masking it with the whole I'm here to do business thing..... that's bs to me. That's just me. But like I said before, I could care less what goes on in Texas. F that bastard and that ugly ass star!

You're actually alright with me though, besides the fact that you're a dirty worthless Cowboy fan.
