What do you want pundits to be wrong about?
We've seen the preseason mags, the blogs and the talking heads all regurgitating the same tired pre-camp story lines over and over again.
McNabb must be done or else the Eagles wouldn't have traded in the division. Portis, Johnson and Parker are all too old to be effective. Haynesworth is going to be a distraction. Thomas and Kelly haven't developed yet and never will. Questions along the offensive line remain despite upgrades at both tackle positions. So of the common refrains, which one do you want to see dispelled over the next 4 weeks? (mods-poll if you'd like) Personally, I am tired of the running back stuff. They're all older, yes, but only Portis has a lot of mileage and regardless how you slice it Johnson, Parker & Torrian are HUGE upgrades over Betts, Rock and Ganther. |
Re: What do you want pundits to be wrong about?
I want to prove any pundit who says any team other than the Redskins will win the Super Bowl wrong.
|
Re: What do you want pundits to be wrong about?
Could absolutely care less about pundits. ITS ALL ABOUT WINNING. JUST WIN!
|
Re: What do you want pundits to be wrong about?
So we're talking specific player/position stories here? Not just about the team overall?
|
Re: What do you want pundits to be wrong about?
All of the above.

This. If the offensive line gel quickly everything else will follow on. |
Re: What do you want pundits to be wrong about?
EVERYTHING!
Especially related to the offense |
Re: What do you want pundits to be wrong about?
I was just saying to a guy in the office here every year around this time (pre-internet) I would get so excited for the prediction mags to come out.
I would read them at the grocery store and get so mad at them, people would probaly walk by and think I was crazy. |
Re: What do you want pundits to be wrong about?
I want them to be wrong about Kolb's success in Philly. They're basing that he will be good on the back of two games where he played really well. In particular, I want it to be shown that all these years, McNabb was the weapon in Philly, not DeSean, not Celek, not even Westbrook and with DMac out, the whole team just crumbles for the next 10 years.

Re: What do you want pundits to be wrong about?
I don't care about the pundits and it doesn't matter whether they are wrong or not. They are worthless for the most part.
|
Re: What do you want pundits to be wrong about?
I want them to prove if an owner stays out the way (I like DS, an owner who's not afraid to spend money) of football operations and hires qualified people you will see competitive football & wins. I guess my questions is really directed at ourselves.

Have to agree with you. SI is really interesting in that they keep both Peter King and Don Banks on staff. The former provides decent insight and covers the league pretty well in my judgment, the latter is just worthless - honestly, I'm astonished that that guy is a paid columnist for SI when he so clearly just reads other articles on FoxSports, ESPN etc. and then just rehashes them with his own snide judgments thrown in. |

Yes, specific player/position stories. |
Re: What do you want pundits to be wrong about?
I'd like to see Malcolm Kelly and DT come in and prove everybody wrong, and break out in the process.

ok, added a poll with some options. Tough to pick just one though |
Re: What do you want pundits to be wrong about?
ALL THE ABOVE, but I chose Haslett, because if he is a bust.......we're done
|

WOW your not kidding. Im leaning on Silverback being a beast. |

Out of all my fears of having something going wrong wth the team Haslett is not one of them. I actually think this will be one of our best move and in 2 or 3 years teams will be hot on his trail for a head coaching postion. |

Ain't that the truth. |
Re: What do you want pundits to be wrong about?
I think if McNabb kicks ass, everything else must be clicking. So I'm going with McNabb. Plus I want Philly to feel like jackasses for letting him go.

indeed it is but i think first and foremost we need our receivers to work out. we can't really afford to have both of them bust, we need them both to step up, although i'll take one and my money is on dt. if they don't work out this year we are really f-ed at wr. moss is wayyy to old and undersized to still be a number one, and galloway forgetaboutit. if neither of them neither of them performs this year wtf do we do next year? get t.o.? |

I agree. The WR corp worries me the most. The line will be adequate and our trio of backs is awesome. Parker did show flashes of his healthy self at the end of the season last year. |
Re: What do you want pundits to be wrong about?
I picked the DT/MK option but I kind of cheated. Using the theory that if DT and MK establish themselves it probably also says that our O-Line and QB play has improved as well.
|
Re: What do you want pundits to be wrong about?
All of the above for sure, but I definitely want Thomas and Kelly to definitely be the best. I really see them being one of our biggest threats if used properly.
|
Re: What do you want pundits to be wrong about?
I agree with the others. All of the above.
I want this to be a great year for the team, as far as moving forward and just fielding a comptetive team. This is the time of year that I love. I always have such a sense of hope this time of year. |

Hey guys, I know this is off the subject, but how can you customize your avatar?

Re: What do you want pundits to be wrong about?
Its gotta be McNabb.
1. First I dont want to get screwed by the Eagles FO 2. This is Shanny's guy, he wanted him so he pulled the trigger and grab McNabb. The 2 WRs Thomas and Kelly arent Shanny guys, so if they were to be "busts" I careless cause this a new era with Shanny and Allen running the show. 3. It would be nice to have our first decent QB since Brad Johnson. 4. I know people hate "its all about the QB" talk...but on the offense its not all, but more like 60-70%, so its pretty f*ing important 5. Our running back depth is pretty solid and I have a feeling Haynesworth is gonna come around....the Williams vs Okung is a very good question, I will be following closely |
Re: What do you want pundits to be wrong about?
I said McNabb...because if we screw up QB again...we are screwed...all those other situations have some sort of a backup plan...kinda
But I gotta tell ya...great thread and VERY tough choices |

You can't, you have to select one from the pool. |
Re: What do you want pundits to be wrong about?
I know that I could care less about whether Kelly makes it or not. I do wish they're proven wrong about Thomas though.
|
Re: What do you want pundits to be wrong about?
Dallas...ranked #4 in "Power" Polls...it's laughable.
*Voted for RBs being old...this is going to work out well, ESPECIALLY with Shanny. |
Re: What do you want pundits to be wrong about?
Yeah I went with the MK DT one but I hope that they are all wrong.
|

That doesn't seem to make much sense to me. Why one so clearly over the other? |
Re: What do you want pundits to be wrong about?
This is really tough because I want them to be wrong about everything, but I chose McNabb. If that was a mistake I think that sets us back more than anything.
|
Re: What do you want pundits to be wrong about?
The risk/ reward scenario.......It has to be Haynesworth. If he can suck it up and be what he can be, our defense should be top 5. With the new scheme and our players, I think AH has the chance to make the biggest positive or negative impact on our team this year. Only time will tell. Ive heard people saying that we will do fine without him, and that may be true, but it sure will be hard without him.....

Re: What do you want pundits to be wrong about?
That doesn't seem to make much sense to me. Why one so clearly over the other?
I dunno. Probably because Thomas has shown real flashes of being a playmaker while Kelly is like glass. Maybe I'm just satisfied if only one of them comes through and have unconciously put my chips in Devin's corner. |
Re: What do you want pundits to be wrong about?
I voted for Haslett because I'm really hoping the defensive coaching switch brings the new ideas/energy and stuff, but I'm going to comment on the age of the running backs instead.
It's hard to say when old becomes too old. It's not like age thirty is a magical number either. For Willie Parker, I would say 29 is probably too old. For Portis, there was a decline/altering of style at age 26. He probably has a year or two left at the same "heavily dependent on the OL" level, where he can go for 5.0 YPC if holes are being blown open, and 3.2 if he's running into backs of lineman. Larry Johnson was an older back coming into the NFL, so 30 isn't a very critical age for him. Johnson was a fairly useless player by age 27, so whatever he had in the tank then, he probably still has. Brian Westbrook has declined more in the last three seasons than any of these guys, but still had his short area running and receiving skills. Breakaway speed is history though. |
Re: What do you want pundits to be wrong about?
I went with the draft class of 08 sucking or not sucking. I was leaning towards Donovan. But I decided that i partially agree with the Eagles trading Donovan. They had a plan, and they stuck to it. Donovan is on the decline, and they needed to start looking towards the future. We needed a stud to give us a chance to win immediately, and that's Donovan. I don't fault them for making that trade.
