NFL Sunday Ticket On Your Laptop

Some of you unable, or unwilling, to subscribe to DirecTV may find this useful.

Only $350! So cheap! I'll take 20!

Thanks for the heads-up anyway, cpayne. The price tag is not your fault.

Re: NFL Sunday Ticket On Your Laptop

Chalk one up to the people who streamed games for free. If it hadn't been for them, the NFL and Direct TV would have been less anxious to make this service available to anyone without Direct TV. However now they see that since people are determined to stream games no matter what they've now entered the "well, we might as well make some money off it" crowd.

Personally this is all I ever asked. I understand the NFL is in the business of making money but it's kind of stupid that you indirectly punish transplant fans for not having Direct TV and having to move because of work. I mean how do you expect people to buy into your product if they can't follow their team? The fact of the matter is that if people can't see the games they want to see they're going to loose interest and at that point no company is going to want to shelve out hundreds of millions of dollars for exclusive rights.

I know I'll be getting this, but after this year I won't need it since I'll be going back to the beltway.

hate to say it...but why pay so much money when I can watch them online for FREE.

Depends on what you're looking for. The NFL is notorious for shutting down streams. I've had many a week where I was either cut out midway through a game and in need of finding another stream, and then there have been weeks where I couldn't even find a stream. On top of that the quality is much better so long as you have a good internet connection. Personally I wouldn't mind paying for it.

Re: NFL Sunday Ticket On Your Laptop

I currently subscribe to DirecTV for the sole purpose of getting the Sunday Ticket (which causes me to miss out on Phillies games). I could bundle with Verizon or Comcast and save a buttload, then get Skins games over the internet.

This idea intrigues me big time. I'll probably wait until next season to pull the trigger, I want to hear some reviews on it first.

Just go to a bar. It's cheaper. I live in Philly and go to the Fox and Hound in the city. The group of Skins fans is the 2nd largest, only to the Eagles crowd. Less money. More fun. And, no dishes to do afterward.

If you're going to eat and have some drinks it's definitely more expensive than staying home.

I'll take the comfort of my own couch and flat screen over a bar any day.

I agree mostly. I would not mind at all paying for streams and thus respecting NFL copyrights. But I can't pay $300 or so. I just don't have the money. I'd happily pay if the price were less exorbitant.

As you argued in another post, the NFL has an interest in making games available to its fans over the internet. I would argue that it benefits the NFL to make that availability more affordable.

Exactly going to bar to watch a game you are talking $40 - $50 a week. Not to mention bars suck to watch a game in unless it is a true Skins bar (or your fav team). the few times I go out to the game it is usually at a Ravens bar and either the Skins are on the 13 inch kitchen TV or yo uhave to beg the bartender to switch it on.

Going to the bar is my last resort. For the record I have DC Fox at home on Comcast so I have ever game on TV but I feel for you out of market guys.

I had it last year and it was great on the rare occasion I had to run errands on sunday.
It was $50 on top of the sunday ticket price.

You can get by for about $12/week with a burger sodas and a tip.
I do this when I need to...I have a slingbox with a buddy in Annapolis...
I sling about 2/3rds of the games and have to go to a bar about 5 times...that is far less than $350.

Yeah it sucks...expecially since there is no audio...but if you really want to get serious...use a radio and earbud while you are there.

Over the course of 16 games? Even if the Skins are nationally broadcast here for 4, that leaves 12 games where I'd have to head to a bar.

Factor a meal and about 4-5 beers and I'm spending at least $25 a trip (if you're there for a game there's no way you should be spending any less than $25, otherwise you're kind of being a chintze, IMO). Times 12 games, that's $300.

Plus gas, plus the inconvenience of having to leave the house, plus often not having audio, plus being around Eagle fans...

**** that. Worst idea ever. I'd much rather watch it at home.

You're spending 3-4 hours at a bar and only giving them $12 of business? Does your waitress roll her eyes at you? She should.

The waitstaff must love you, they get to wait on for 4 hours and get a $1.80 tip. Sorry I am not that cheap and if you are wearing the walkman also while sipping your soda for 4 hours you my friend are a nerd.

You can also get by with water, a lemon and some sweet and low if you want to go really cheap!

Sorry the bartender in me just hates folks like you.

Also keep in mind you are taking up a seat or even a full top (if you are at a table) that could be used on a well spending customer.

My DirecTV goes out maybe twice a year for a total of 30 minutes due to rainstorms.

Agree 100% I can't live without DTV, or Sunday Ticket. And as far as the satellite signal.. I had a blizzard last year on XMAS and had little to no problems at all. Why watch a game on a 20 inch com. monitor when you can watch it on a 50" Flatscreen! LOL

MTK 08-24-2010 02:46 PM

Re: NFL Sunday Ticket On Your Laptop

The ticket works out to be about $21/wk for the season. It's well worth it to me, I love being able to flip through all the games.

Well, the service will support 720p, so you can watch it on your 50" flatscreen. ;)

I dont know why the OP titled the thread sunday ticket on your laptop - when the application would work on any PC. I have a HTPC and this would be a great solution for me... if it were cheaper.

Fortunately, my brother has Sunday ticket and if I can't make it to his house, i use his sign-on to stream games in HD to my PC, which is connected to my entertainment system. the quality is not nearly as good as watching it via a directv box, but its a good alternative when i cant make it to my brothers house.

Seriously?

It's just a title. Of course it will work on any PC (although it may be limited to Windows).

If someone can't figure that out, they probably are too dense to even use the forum anyway.

Yeah, I have a friend that at this point is begging for Comcast. A couple of months back we were trying to watch the NBA Finals during clear weather and DTV kept going out 10 seconds after we would try and turn it on. The next day when we tried and watch the Stanley Cup Finals the same thing happened again. The only thing about Comcast that I don't like is that they don't have an NFL package.

Re: NFL Sunday Ticket On Your Laptop
You could do like me and patch your laptop into your tv and thus do both.
Exactly. All you need is an Analog or HDMI chord. Most HDTV's have slots for both. Of course according to Direct TV the speed of your internet will determine weather or not you can rake in the full 720p picture. Obviously it's different strokes for different folks, but I've been watching games on my laptop for years so it's no problem for me to do it for another year.

Re: NFL Sunday Ticket On Your Laptop

I go to a firend's house who has the "Ticket" and I almost hate to tell him that I think it has become a real rip off. I would say that most people who have it, do so because they want to watch their one team each week. So its like Saden1 said, basically a pay per view of $22 each week to see your team. Yes you could watch other teams, but I doubt most people do. Also, in the case of the skins, they have several nationally televised games anyway that you can watch for free like the Cowboy game and the Colts game. Its become a real money grab by Direct TV with the monopoly they have.

Re: NFL Sunday Ticket On Your Laptop

I have DTV and unless it is a monsoon do not loose signal, and if it is that bad I can always watch in SD. I had some issues a few months back but my dish was knocked 22 degrees out, and I still got most programming. I love the Ticket but would love a team specific package for cheaper.

Re: NFL Sunday Ticket On Your Laptop

This DTV vs cable is a beaten horse here, basically it boils down to what is best in your area. For me it is Comcast. I had DTV in NOVA no problems, moved to Columbia MD stuck the thing in bucket outside my sliding glass door in my apt no problem, move up north of B-more to a 4 story townhouse can't pick a damn thing up, switched to Comcast and I see every game.

What is your DL speed, out of curiosity? I would glady not pay for the ticket if I could watch a quality feed. Being in the sticks, hence the DTV, I only get DSL with 3M down on a good day. I rarely get HD from streaming Netflix so I am hesitant to try it.

The beauty of living in College Park, is you can go and just drink a few beers... at 1.00$ each.

I usually go to catch the Skins and Phins games... and you wont spend more than 15$ a week.

Plus the atmosphere is great. A bunch of rabid fans of every team, all decked out in their jersey.

I only have one more year left of the luxury, but it's fun nevertheless.
