DWOC's International Burn a Koran Day

Dove World Outreach Center has decided to hold a nice commiseration event on September 11th that involves burning Qur'ans. If they go through with it how long do you guys think these nice people have before they meet their maker?

p.s. Their mortgage lender has called in the balance of their loan and their property insurance has been cancelled by their insurer.

That could get uglier than the Redskin tailgate party this weekend......

Re: DWOC's International Burn a Koran Day

Yes DWOC, you have the right to free speech. That doesn't make expressing yourself in this way a good idea. At all.

What a bunch of ignorant losers.

Re: DWOC's International Burn a Koran Day

This is one of those free speech issues. The same as the freedom of religion. Our constitution will allow you to do whatever you want as long as you are not hurting yourself, anyone else, or their property.

If you own the Qua'an, you are free to burn it. If you own the land you are free to build a place of worship there. If you own the flag, you can burn it too. Doesn't mean everyone has to agree with it. I sure don't, but who am I to take away your constitutional rights.

Basically I think extremism of all kinds leads to nothing but problems. What I want to know is how do we get to this point nine years later. Was this happening in 2001? Is this just media talking heads whipping up fear and feeding it to those willing to listen. Our nation is so messed up right now sometimes I wonder how much worse does it have to get before people snap out of it.

Very interesting about the insurance being canceled. One can only sit back and wait for this to unfold.

Sure, they are entitled to do so under freedom of speech.

That doesn't change the fact that this is the dumbest, most counterproductive idea that I've heard in a long time.

Nice "outreach," Dove.

Teaching tolerance, one crispy Quran at a time.

Re: DWOC's International Burn a Koran Day

there is a distinction with what is constitutionally protected speech and what is not.

burning a cross is not protected speech, it is hate speech.

the classic yelling "FIRE!" in a movie theater is not protected speech

burning the american flag is protected speech.

i guess the burning of the Koran falls somewhere in the penumbra of the gray area betwen burning a cross and burning a flag.

this could be interesting for con law scholars.

Good point about the hate speech. I wonder if since they own the books, and it is private property if that applies.

Seriously, this is a stupid, stupid idea. I think my views on religion have been pretty well established, but there is no good that can come of this. What exactly are they hoping to accomplish? Let everyone know that they don't like Islam? Ok, done. This is just going to provoke more violence.

So this guy wants to burn some Koran's and all I see are people talking about how this will promote violence. They want to build a Mosque and no one talks about fear of violence. HMMMMM I wonder why that is.

MAYBE because one is a non aggresive, standard approach to congregational worship, and the other is an aggresive and intolerant act of violence against a book which is considered sacred to millions + of non aggressive members of a recognized religious group? Maybe?

This piece of sh*t pastor is too stupid to understand this is exactly what the terriost love. This guy is creating a platform to rally their ideology. This pastor is no better than the terriost when they boarded the planes to kill Americans. Gen Petreus have vehemently come out against this action stating it puts soldiers lives at much greater risk. I believe it is within his freedom of speech, so dont be mad when there are counter protest with Bibles afire.

Nice leaving the sacred part out of your quote. Because it is a sacred text you are committing violence, or atleast sacrilege, in the eyes of those who hold to it's teachings.

Of course this is gonna promote violence. Not only is it going to extremely piss off every extremist Muslim, every Muslim, regardless of whether or not they are extremists or not, are gonna be pissed at America, not just these ignorant church-goers in Florida. What a horrible idea. They'll probably even videotape it and then the extremist Muslims will get it and boom! new recruitment tape right there. It's shit like this that feeds Muslim's hateful perception of America.

Do these guys really not understand when they do shit like this, they represent America to the bad guys. Which means Muslims aren't gonna be pissed at just them, they are going to be pissed at all of us, and they are going to take it out on our soldiers overseas.

Probably because the majority of Muslims are peaceful and denounce the those who practice radical forms of Islam like those who acted in 9/11.

I can't wait till people start burning the Bible again.

It's a respect thing.

People don't burn Bibles anymore, they don't burn Torahs, so why burn the Koran? What's the point of it? I mean hell, if you're gonna start burning religious manuscripts, I think the Bible deserves it just as much as the Koran does.

Or hell, while we're burning Korans, why don't we just fly a plane into Mecca? That'd be the ultimate disrespect. That'll show em.

Well, I am not generally an advocate of such things but if we did, would muslims then conclude that it was just a small violent faction of Americans responsible and not the majority who are peace loving?

Of course not right off hand but I don't think anyone was extremely comfortable with Islam for a good time after 9/11 happened. But it helps that a lot of building bridges and investigation went on after that. I mean the whole, "you hurt me, so I'm gonna hurt you back" thing is so Neanderthal, especially after so much work has been done to get Americans and Muslims to come to terms and understand what happened in terms of 9/11.

They understand its politics which divide the governments of the us and iran. He says its more obivious with the 30 and under crowd. Got it.
I think you can probably look for more of it, and it's hard for me to believe that was not a consideration to those that contrived the notion to build it there. Kind of surprising.........
