Question that needs an answer before the night is over
Why in the hell did the skins not blitz kevin kolb not ONE TIME once he entered the game? I mean they just let him sit back there and dink and dunk his way down the field and came very close to losing the game because of this stupid defensve strategy.
Did anyone else besides me almost have a STROKE on the last play of the game? |

Re: Question that needs an answer before the night is over
Probably because we didn't want Jackson or Maclin torching us. I thought it was a good game plan on D.

Kolb doesn;t have big play potential so for them to take it away was stupid. |

Re: Question that needs an answer before the night is over
Hard to argue with the results. 12 points is a nice defensive effort.

But it was a game plan that kept their DRIVES ALIVE. Why not go after kolb since he is not a big play QB? |

How can you say that? The guy hasn't even started 10 games in his career. |
Re: Question that needs an answer before the night is over
I have never in my life been so mad after a victory. I was on the edge of my seat the entire 4th qtr and maclin came within a finger tip of a winning TD.
Now that was a good game plan if Vick was in the game but with Kolb you just go after him and force him to throw |
Re: Question that needs an answer before the night is over
Relax dude, we won. Enjoy it.

I seen enough of Kolb to know if won't hurt you with his legs so it's best to go after him on 3rd and long. |
Re: Question that needs an answer before the night is over
on another note...how about that horrible drop pick 6 that one eagle defender had? that was a catch he makes nine times out of ten! total break for us there.
defense played awesome today, I don't care, our O kind of put em in a bad spot 2nd half when we stalled out a lot. |

Re: Question that needs an answer before the night is over
Some people are never happy.
Our defense played great, they knocked Vick out of the game, kept the rushing game in check and kept the other team to only one touchdown./ |
Re: Question that needs an answer before the night is over
I thought this was going to be an important question. Does this really need to be answered tonight?

Move it to the drunk thread for further......scrutiny?

Yes because they came close to losing by allowing Kolb to throw 5 yd passes all afternoon. |

I didnt have a stroke at first, just until I saw the replay
They didn't replay it enough. I genereally hate 4pm games. They start when the 1pm game is still on and end abruptly on Fox. And please rid of useless "bonus" coverage when the 1pm game does end early. |
Re: Question that needs an answer before the night is over
I have to agree with Matty. Haslett did not blitz the hell out of the guy because it has been killing us the last few weeks. He coached us to a victory. It is much better than sitting here and talking about how Macklin and Jackson each had a big play that changed the game.
No comment from me here about the D. If anything I have a problem with the offense getting shut out in the second half. Not with holding the Eagles to 7 points. Although I was very much in doubt that we would win the game in the end. If we beat Green Bay next week, I will believe. |
Re: Question that needs an answer before the night is over
I think we were all concerned about the all out blitzing approach the first 3 weeks, so they dial it back and people are still complaining.
Scoreboard. Big road win. 2-0 in the division. Enjoy it. |

Re: Question that needs an answer before the night is over
When you blitz, there's a lot of reward at a big risk.
Haslet was trying to keep the ball in front of the defense with the eagles out of TO's with under a minute or so to go. More likely, when you blitz and the QB hits his man..is a big gainer if not a TD. That's why. and with the WR's the eagles have,I don't blame haslet at all for playing soft with a 5 pt lead. Yes.they were dinkin' and dunkin' but they were 5,6,7 yard dunks...as time was ticking.. We blitz heavy and Kolb hits jackson on a 5 yard crossing route over the middle like bradford was doing and it's 6 pt's and eagles win. We didn't play GREAT,but we were a hell of a lot better than we've played in the last 2 weeks. I was very impressed with our run defense as well. Hey guys...we're 2-2 with a 2-0 Division record and 2-1 conference record and the packers coming to our yard man!! :) Oh..and now we got BB! Our very own Devin Hester:) |
any old joe can answer this....
Its because Phili has Desean Jackson!
Yes. And they beat us with a couple of screens early in the game, so anyone with a brain is going to rein in the blitzes. |

Re: Question that needs an answer before the night is over
I think are DF was better, the sheagles only took what we gave them no big plays and they only got the middle of the field 5 to 20yds.

This team is not very good right now. We had folks on this board predicting an Filthadelphia blowout, we should be thankful for this win and hope as the season progresses we improve. |

Did anyone else besides me almost have a STROKE on the last play of the game?
The answer to your question is because Kolb is an unknown. Last week Sam Bradford was certainly not known as a big play quarterback but he was extremely effective against our blitzes because he knew they were coming. Granted Kolb was effective towards the end but when you have an unknown like Kolb you don't blitz, especially not when you have big play receivers like DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin out there. Did you not notice how they were shutdown? In the end we gave up 12 poins and we won. Much improved over blitzing Bradford all last game and we gave up 30 and we lost. What happened if we blitzed and he got it out there quick and Jackson beat our secondary for a touchdown? Would you be on here questioning the blitz? Btw the Skins did blitz 5 on one play, and the result was an incomplete pass. So we did blitz him once. Idk if you've been watching the past two weeks but everybody and their mothers knew Jim Haslett was blitzing and that's why the Texans and Rams were so effective against us. If Kolb did his work this past week I'm sure he was prepared to be heavily blitzed even though he knew he wasn't starting. |
Re: Question that needs an answer before the night is over
Who cares? We won. Would you have been happier if we blitzed our brains out and Avant held that Hail Mary on the last play?

What keeps drives alive is allowing 3rd and 10 completions. Our D HAS to get better at stopping 3rd down and long situations. |
Re: Question that needs an answer before the night is over
Agree with the comment that Jackson or Maklin would have burned us if we blitzed. I mean I guess we could have thrown one or two in, but the team defensively just isn't that good.
|
Re: Question that needs an answer before the night is over
I guess I just never been big on giving a QB time on 3rd and 11. I want drives to end so we get the ball back and add to the lead.
My point is when kolb frst entered the game he had no confidence so why not keep him feeling that way and go after him? He was able to settle in and relax once h was able to dink and dunk and no longer looked scared. |
Re: Question that needs an answer before the night is over
relax people .. we won .. D played great .. Rogers #22 dropped another clincher and we left about 21 pts on the field... (Davis overthrow, Armstrong falling down, ETC ETC ETC)
uhh we freaking won .. 2-0 in one thing that matters |
Re: Question that needs an answer before the night is over
Philly beats you with big plays this year. We took that away and challenged them to beat us in another way. They got close. But close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.
Slingin Sammy has it right--the D was fine, but the dang O couldn't ice the game, AS USUAL!!!! That's where I was freaking out. We NEVER get that last first down to ice it and take a knee. We are always relying on our D to save our bacon at the end. How about, JUST ONCE, a first down to end it on offense? The game should have ended when Torain got 7 on first down. Then it's two plays to get three yards and we take a knee. But NOOOOOOOOOOOO. False ****ing start. 2-8. Run gets two. Incomplete pass. We punt--LAMELY. Can we ever get a clutch ****ing punt???? And you want to blame it on the D, which took away philly's real weapons, a D which got TORCHED in the secondary in the first couple of games. Sure, the D can do more, no doubt. But that ending was not the Ds fault. A huge win. But, man, we never make things easy, do we? A holding call and a dropped hail-Mary in our wins. But a win is a win is a win. |
