I hope Phil Simms is happy eating his crow. He was milking every excuse he could for them on national TV during the preseason game against the Texans. The way they were, and still are, shitting up their own bed has to be bad coaching.

I'm loving it.

My biggest fear is Wade Phillips will be fired after the season. I'm hoping he'll stay with them for a long time. I got very scared last season after the opening round of the playoffs when they destroyed Philly, I thought they might have a legit shot at the SB. Then they shit the bed against Minny and my fears dissolved.

Funny how the closer the media is to Dallas, the more critical and realistic they are of them. Non-local media on the other hand is still singing their praise like they're 3 - 1.

And they keep whining about that penalty! It was a penalty when Witten gave the ball to Colombo, whether Colombo fell down or not. Yet moan moan moan.

Further, you'd think that they'd whine about poor kick coverage, an interception-prone QB, defensive backs burnt like toast, etc. Instead they whine about that call.

Wow...can't believe Werder ran them down that much. I have a new level of respect for Ed. I always thought he was a Dallas shill. On a reflective note, how many read that and look at what Shanny is doing here and see some long term hope? No one can say that Shanny is accepting losing or that players feel comfortable with just getting by.

I do. The Redskins are the only team I in this area that I have hope will become a perennial contender in the very near future because accountability is being emphasized by Shanahan.

Along with Phillips, I hope they keep Barron for a long time also. I still can't believe how they gave that game to us. I'm still thanking Garrett and Barron to this very day!

Very good article. I hope no one in the Dallas organization reads it!
Cowboys management thinks it is unimportant which player starts as long as the better player is getting the ball the correct number of times. I disagree. I think it's important for players to know they are going to get exactly what they earn. For the lesser players to be motivated to develop, they must believe devoutly they can compete on an even playing field against a player with a bigger paycheck and higher draft status.
That actually sums up the DT vs AA debate here as well.

A side note - why is the Metrodome the nosiest place to play?

I'm a little uneasy piling on just yet. When they've lost 7 or 8 games, I'll happily do so. All of the negative publicity might just motivate them to get on track, it has in the past. If not, they might just head towards a major free fall & that would be fun to watch, after the debacles we've dealt with here in the last decade.

They are still a talented team & they are facing another talented but distraught team sunday w/head coaching/leadership issues. If dallas wins sunday, or for that matter minnesota wins, they're 2-3 & right in it. Losing this game will be huge for either team, but I'm still not ready to call either of them done.

I'm with you on this. While I've thoroughly enjoyed watching them tank the past few games, I think they'll win a few that we all think they shouldn't win. They do have the history of the December collapse, so I'm hoping that trend stays true.

I just REALLY want to see Minnesota take it to them and that will put out any little fire they had left.

We could only hope. :D

Basically Garrett and Romo remind me of an analogy I had a while back... They both remind me of Hideo Nomo. A little unconventional, and almost came out of nowhere, they were pretty good until people figured him out.

From then on, it worked out OK for him for a while, but then just kind of fizzled out.

I think Garrett and Romo will do the same...

If after the season, no. I see Norv going there after SD cans him this year. This assumes, Cowher to Carolina and Gruden to 49'ers or Browns.

If in season, say they lose the next 2, then yes Garrett is it.

Yeah, they even had someone suggest trucks with signs (and no, I am NOT kidding! Don't worry mlmPertert, I forwarded them your Kapipal link :) )

The difference, in my opinion, was Snyder had over time fluctuated back and forth between hands on and hands off. If he felt he had a good staff, he will be hands off, if not, then he gets caught up in it. With JJ, he wants to be hands on all the time, remember bringing in TO, even Parcells definitely did not want him. I don't think JJ will ever step back. Which is fine by me. (His son does seem to have a good football head though, so he may eventually hand the reigns to him).

Cowboys are a mess. Jones is a fool for paying Garrett just as much as his head coach. Phillips can't even go over and tell him to stop calling so many pass plays. IMO they just need to clean house and bring in a real head coach.

Matty you are right......Jerry will never give up control, like Dan Snyder now has done. Jerry will always think he is smarter than the guy or guys he hires. If it ever becomes a question of Jerry hiring a bright GM or coach, Jerry probably wont hire the guy. I think he is a little like a young Al Davis. Also working against Jerry hiring a guy and taking a back seat is the fact that Jerry won Super Bowls early when he had control. His Ego is too big to let go of the controls.

I just can't see Cowher there, not his speed. He's going to want a certain level of autonomy and JJ isn't going to give that up. Carolina definitely seems like the logical landing spot for The Chin for many reasons.

Deziree Bryant possibly out this week. :D

Coach Wade is worried at least.

Cowboys Corner: Bryant and Gurode might miss game
October 14, 2010
Bryant and Gurode might miss game

Receiver Dez Bryant missed another day of practice. His right ankle, which he injured in training camp, is sore again.

"I am worried that he might not be able to play," Cowboys coach Wade Phillips said. "...It’s been on and off. Those high-ankle sprains tend to last for a while and sometimes don’t get completely well."

Starting center Andre Gurode also might join Bryant on the sideline Sunday. He injured his knee on an interception at the end of the 34-27 loss to the Titans but did not have trouble with it until practice Thursday. The Cowboys sent him for an MRI.

"That's a concern, obviously," Phillips said.

Starting left guard Kyle Kosier would start at center if Gurode is unable to play. Kosier had never played center until the Cowboys cut backup center/guard Cory Procter during the off-season. Undrafted rookie free agent Phil Costa would be active to serve as Kosier's backup. Montrae Holland would start at left guard.

Bryant has had a series of nagging injuries so far in his young career. He also has a rib injury, though Phillips said Bryant's ribs were not a concern.

Bryant, the Cowboys' first-round draft pick, initially injured his ankle July 30 during training camp in San Antonio. He missed all of the preseason, playing his first game in the season opener against the Redskins. Bryant is the team's fourth leading receiver with 17 catches for 180 yards. He has returned a punt 62 yards for a touchdown.

"Anytime you're not practicing, it hurts, as far as young players knowing assignments and what to do," Phillips said. "Now, he’s worked hard in the classroom, and I think that’s helped him. He’s still practiced quite a bit. That’s also helped. We’ve also had walk-throughs and things like that that we do with the players that he’s been able to participate in."

The Cowboys could activate receiver Jesse Holley off the practice squad for Sunday's game. Holley has been practicing with the first team special teams.

Safety Alan Ball (shoulder), linebacker Bradie James (knee), defensive end Igor Olshansky (knee) and tight end Martellus Bennett (ankle) were limited in practice.

Jerry Jones won't give up control because his method brought him 3 SB rings. Snyder had to change his method because he didn't accomplish ****, and the team actually got worse during his ownership. Snyder had no choice but to change.

Gurode is the bigger loss, they don't have a backup center and would have to move their starting RG over. I can't believe how many parallels you can find between the Skins of last year and Cowboys this year. They have put up better stats that's for sure, but so many things there are just outta whack. I hope JJ sees the stats and refuses to back out from his position.

I also thought this pargraph sounded familiar:

You cannot make losing easy or acceptable, which is what I believe Phillips has done. He has created a culture at Valley Ranch in which he insulates everybody from criticism, never singles anybody out for blame, refuses to hold players accountable and has convinced his team that the media is the cause of any problems. When Leonard Davis admitted he is at fault for playing badly and was deservedly, albeit belatedly, benched, Phillips soothed him with praise, referring to him as a Pro Bowl player and returning him to his starting job.

Well realistically, the 3 SB rings were a carry over effect, and Jimmy Johnson had a LOT to do with them. I would think not having a playoff win for 14 or 15 (or whatever it was) would represent getting worse under JJ also. He doesn't see that because of his very early success. If one good thing came out of the last decade it was the (hopefully permanent) realization by DS that a football team is better off run by professionals and not the owner.

As much as I hate the Cowboys, and I do enjoy seeing them getting criticized by the media (for once), it is unfortunately early in the season and any team can turn it around. I will be much happier when they are 1-9 or 2-8 and well out of playoff contention.

Ed Werner makes some points but is really writing this from his own selfish perspective. To him the heroes are the guys who talk to him, and allow him to get more material for his articles? That's a dumb way to judge which players from the Cowboys have their heads on straight and which ones don't.

It doesn't matter if you shy from the media IMO, just perform.
