NO!!! But what about my team on Madden. Doesn't Bruce realize we need like 10 pro bowlers at reciever. Look at how well it's working out for the Cowboys.

Yet again another player caves to AJ

Re: VJ saga over. He is reporting for duty next week.

He is returning to accure his season and get the hell out of San Diego.

Yes they may hit him with the Franchise Tag, but again he doesn't have to sign it.

It would really be a DICK move for AJ to do that come Feb. but it is the risk VJ is taking. From what we have heard he is actually being pressured by the NFLPA to do so. I guess we will all see how it plays out.

How much time will he miss now? He has his suspension, but what about those extra games he had to miss? Will he be back by week 11 of this year or later?

The players association asked him to join the team as well.

Re: VJ saga over. He is reporting for duty next week.

It won't be over till we hear VJ has signed with another team.

Why? cause we all know he's not happy, and He's only returning so he can be a FA next year. What happens if he shows up and .... oh lets say .... drops a few balls? especially catchable balls? will he continue to play or be benched?

Yes the saga is over for the moment but I could imagine him conveniently dropping balls so the team wouldn't be happy with him. Especially since he is not happy about going against his word where he said he would not be back and he could sit out the whole season. Now he looks like a fool. He doesn't come back the team still ownes him and has some leverage as to where he goes so basically he had to come back if he wanted to be free next yr.

Maybe he fakes an injury?

His punishment was 3 games not being with the team. Thats over. Then there was 4 games he could show up and practice but not play on Sun.

I thought they have been counting already because he's technically still a Charger. The mere fact that he has not shown up to practice is an issue between him and San Diego and I don't think has anything to do with his suspension. So I guess what I'm saying is he can play week 8 I believe.

Let's agree to send San Diego 2 #1's, AH, McNabb, and Orakpo for the rights to franchise VJ.

j/k

Re: VJ saga over. He is reporting for duty next week.

its been repeatedly reported that the NFLPA will push to make sure that the players who have been FA but for the clause in the last year of the CBA (like VJ, mankins, mcneil, rogers, etc) can not be franchise tagged by the team next year if they were tendered this season as a RFA.

Does VJ have to just report (he can show up in street clothes and refuse to do any work) or does he have to practice, play in games?

SBXVII 10-22-2010 10:41 AM

Re: VJ saga over. He is reporting for duty next week.

^ Not sure what participation VJ has to make but I'd think show up healthy and dressed out. But like I said if I was him my practice habbits would be bad, I'd drop balls in practice, if pushed on to the field I'd run crappy routes and drop balls so the team would not want to use me. They pretty much gave every player who had issues a new contract except him. I'd be pissed if I was him.

Re: VJ saga over. He is reporting for duty next week.

Thats what im confused about. I cant see VJ going out there and playing knowing that if he suffers a serious or career ending injury he wont see another nfl penny.

But if he just shows up in street clothes and refuses to do any work, what can the chargers do? deactivate him? would that then make it so he doesnt accrue enough games on team to earn FA status next year?

so confused.

He still has to serve his 3 game team-imposed suspension. That took effect once he signed his tender. Had he signed his tender before Sept. 4 he could have served the team-imposed suspension concurrently with his league suspension. But he didn't. So now he has to sit 3 games

Don't be surprised if VJ signs a deal like Marcus McNeill did. SD is 2-4, they are going to end up locking him up. This is a business, the bad blood will go away when VJ sees numbers he likes.

So, He is not signing his tender till next week, then he has a 3 game team suspension along with a 3 game league suspension? That would put him out till week 13 if correct. If not he misses week 8, 9, and 10. Allowing him to join the team and play for the last seven weeks.

Is this correct? Or does the 3 game team and 3 game league run side by side only putting him out for the first 3 weeks after he signs his tender?

His situation is so screwed up with SD right now, I would be shocked if they did try to keep him past this season?

He's technically already served his league suspension. Once he signs he will have to sit out 3 games because the Chargers put him on the roster exempt list. So let's say he does sign next week then he has to sit the next 3 games (4 weeks since the Bolts have a bye in there). And then he can play the final 6 games of the season

Re: VJ saga over. He is reporting for duty next week.

thanks for clearing that up.

Just one other question then for you Smoot, if he had been traded at the week six deadline and signed to a long term deal, would he then be eligible to play week 7?

Your right money solves everything. but sometimes people burn bridges and wonder if the Chargers burned the bridge with VJ and VJ is just ready to get out of town.

artmonkforhallofamein07 10-22-2010 02:22 PM

Re: VJ saga over. He is reporting for duty next week.

It seems as though they have. With some of VJ's comments I believe he is ready to split with SD.

One other thing about him coming back.

It frees him from the Chargers and as long as he does not get into any more trouble, he is going to be ready for a complete full season, and he will get more money from the Free Agent Market. I honestly do not think the Bolts would give him a market deal now, and it seems as though AJ Smith really has a problem with giving VJ a good contract becuase of his off the field isssues.

I do not know any of these people personally or have a working relationship with any of them so this is just my opinion.

It's not Austin's, Williams', and Bryant's fault their team keeps shooting themselves in the foot every game. I would switch WRs with Dallas in a heartbeat. What makes me mad is that we let T.O. get away, now VJ. Damn...

I know that's how it sounded when the last quick fix deadline passed. And yeah, it's hard to imagine him staying there, but I just wouldn't be shocked if Norv calms him down once he is on the field and at practice, and they get a solid deal done.

Re: VJ saga over. He is reporting for duty next week.

Since this whole fiasco started about money, it could certainly end with it too. I wouldn't be shocked if they hammer out a deal with him.

Re: VJ saga over. He is reporting for duty next week.

At 2-4, yeah they better do something to make the guy happy. Rivers is having a decent fantasy year, but nothing to show for it in the win column. If the FO and Norv don't turn it around, a lot of folks are going to be out of jobs in Chargerland.

If he shows up for practice with the team and continues to behave along the lines of his public statements for the past 6 months [I'll never wear a Chargers uniform again; I have money set aside so I can sit out a whole season; the Chargers are preventing me from getting the contract I deserve somewhere else.] he may not be activated for the games that he is eligible to play.

Suppose the Chargers' season tanks and they are 3-7 or 2-8 when Jackson is eligible. Maybe they sit him out in a luxury box upstairs to watch the game; that has been known to happen in some NFL towns.

If he shows up with his "entitlement attitude", I doubt they even offer him a contract this year or in the off-season. If he shows up ready to work hard and play well - - we shall see.

One scenario no one seems to have considered as possible is that Jackson pulls down another DUI between now and his eligibility date. Could happen...
