Early Vegas Line: Lions favored by 2
Now, I don't want to turn this into a "we get no respect" type thread, because I've really been worried about this Lions game for 6 weeks now... and while I would not be shocked at all if the Lions won at home, do you think the coaching staff may play this up at all this week? I mean we looked pretty bad yesterday, but we're still 4-3 and going to play a team thats 1-5, can't run the ball and is having a hard time stopping the run... is anyone else a little surprised by this?
I mean I think that Detroit is a MUCH improved team (and they did beat Washington last year)...but I'm still pretty surprised by that |
Re: Early Vegas Line: Lions favored by 2
Not surprised, The Lions are a tough team. This will be a tougher game than Chicago. The Redskins better play a lot better than yesterday or this will be a loss.
|
Re: Early Vegas Line: Lions favored by 2
Wah! We get no respect! We played like all stars yesterday and now this?!?!
Seriously though, I can see the reasoning. The Lions beat us last year, we're on the road, we just played an amazingly bad game in which the main reason we won was because Jay Cutler can't tell the difference between a Bears receiver and DeAngelo Hall, and the Lions have been close in the majority of their games this year. We could very easily lose this game. With all that being said I hope Shanny takes a cue from Matt Mosley and has that '09 game tape on replay all week. That was truly embarressing. We need to be prepared to go and I know Shanny won't coddle the team after the way we played against the Bears, minus a few people who had great games. |

Yeah I agree completely... I mean its not like I don't think the Lions can't beat the Skins, because I would not be suprised if they did. They're a solid team...I guess I'm just a little suprised they were favored and I'm wondering if the coaches will play up being the underdog, since I think we have been dogs in every game except STL. |
Re: Early Vegas Line: Lions favored by 2
I will be very surprised if this line doesn't change throughout the week. If I was a bookie I'd be setting my lines at WASHINGTON -2.5
|
Re: Early Vegas Line: Lions favored by 2
Philly 35 Detroit 32 (with Vick the whole game)
NYG 28 Detroit 20 We better watch out, the Lions are better than they were last year. Plus they have confidence that they can win this game, because for some reason a lot of teams know that they can beat the redskins when the redskins think "_____, they're awful this year and haven't won any or that many games...we got this" Yeah I hope that loss from last year is still fresh in the teams head. And watch out for Suh, cause that guy isn't playing like a rookie... |
Re: Early Vegas Line: Lions favored by 2
Skins win easy .. OK seriously I think we score 30 sunday and win by 2 scores. Torain will be a monster and the Lions D is very poor, No run D and their DBs are really weak. McNabb should have a huge game.
Our D will be motivated and will force Turnovers again. Stafford won't beat us twice in a row! |
Re: Early Vegas Line: Lions favored by 2
Wait, this means Vegas likes the Skins. The home team always gets 3 points, anything under that tells me they actually like the Skins on this one, maybe in a runaway.

Re: Early Vegas Line: Lions favored by 2
For me I keep wondering how they scored all those points with Shaun Hill at QB.
Sure, you have Megatron at WR, but that's KINDA all they have. |

Re: Early Vegas Line: Lions favored by 2
Lions are rested, off a bye also... this is going to be a tough game.
|
Re: Early Vegas Line: Lions favored by 2
Yeah I think it is fair considering past history and how the lions are playing this year.
Should be a tough game. We have the tools to win, need to get it done. |
Re: Early Vegas Line: Lions favored by 2
I thought Vegas odds automatically gives the home team 3 points? If this is true, then Redskins by one.

Lions are coming off a bye and it will be our second straight road game. Det. has played much better this year. Played the Giants tough and should've beat Chicago. This one will be close. |
Re: Early Vegas Line: Lions favored by 2
Line less than 3 is good news for Skins. I think $ will go the way of Detroit tho. Coming off a bye gives a big advantage to the home team.
|
Re: Early Vegas Line: Lions favored by 2
I think the line has dropped to +1 for the Skins.
|
Re: Early Vegas Line: Lions favored by 2
we're a better team... dont like it, but who cares
|
Re: Early Vegas Line: Lions favored by 2
That's home-field-advantage-it's-a-crap-shoot line. I have the Lions winning only because the Redskins are know to have let downs.
|
Re: Early Vegas Line: Lions favored by 2
The point spread isnt designed to predict who wins by how many, its designed to even out the betting action on both teams.

Right, which I get. I bet a lot. But wouldn't you be more inclined to bet the Lions if they were getting a point or two? |

A lot of people dont get that, they think the line is designed to predict the final score margin. I would but I think the betting public doesnt trust the Skins since they tend to play down to their opponents. I was shocked to see the Lions we giving points but nobody know better than the book-makers about these spreads. |

Michael Wilbon always points this out on PTI & it's worth repeating. I think the line makes sense, most conservative gamblers would take the skins w/this spread. |

They are coming off a bye but we are going into a bye, I think that's often overlooked, teams may play well because they are given incentives by their coaches for the bye week, or simply because it's psychologically easier to give max effort knowing that you'll get more rest afterward. |
Re: Early Vegas Line: Lions favored by 2
Bye week matters more I think if you have an elite coach and Jim Swartz isnt one of those at this point. I do however worry about this game especially Calvin Johnson having a huge game. I think Shanahan makes little Shanny pound the ball down the Lions throats, and torain has a big game and we win 27-17.

Right, and it's got nothing to do with respect, or a team getting dissed. |
Re: Early Vegas Line: Lions favored by 2
I'm not surprised -- there's a lot of playmakers on that Detroit Lions team and there hasn't been one game, IMO, that we should have won all season with the exception of the Houston game. Every one has been the other team losing, not us winning -- we should prepare for this game like we're going to play a division rival.

No way we win by 2 scores, like all our games it will come down the last play with either team having the chance to win an ugly game. |

Excellent point but wins are wins so I'm fine with this season so far! |

I really get tired of this take. Teams win or lose each week, it's that simple. There's no style points given for blowouts, and none taken away for close wins. You are what your record says you are. |

I agree and im tired of hearing how we have been given 4 games this year. We won and the other team didn't. Outside of the Rams Loss u could say we should've won against the Colts and Texans as well. If other teams are that good they shouldn't be giving us games. U win or u lose plain and simple. |
Re: Early Vegas Line: Lions favored by 2
^I with you Matty. I think its hilarious no one wants to give our defense or Haslett credit. Our D is making the others teams Offense look like sh*t. Our offense is a work in progress, no doubt, and dont just point to the defensive stats of yards allowed, its misleading. The talent of this football team lies on the defense...for the last ten years it has.

Re: Early Vegas Line: Lions favored by 2
You don't have to apologize for winning games in this league.
|
Re: Early Vegas Line: Lions favored by 2
For years it seemed we were always counting up the near wins; 'if only we'd hit that FG, if only that bad call was challenged,' etc. This was the story w/Zorn & Gibbs II, and Spurrier to some degree. Even Norvelle said that if he'd had a good kicker he'd have won a lot more games in DC (he didn't mention cutting Akers).
Now that we're winning some close games & winning when some aspects of the team perform poorly, we should be happy. We're in this thing, even though this team has pretty noticeable deficiencies. I chalk it up to good coaching. I was listening to Coughlin last night & thinking about the success he's had in NY. Shanny is on a parallel track, a disciplinarian, long-time afc coach that's re-established himself in the nfc east. |
Re: Early Vegas Line: Lions favored by 2
Don't care who is favored....but McNabb better button his chin strap cause the Detroit D-line is for real. Our offensive line has a long day in fornt of them.
You ever notice how McNabb has a routine or superstition about waiting until the last possible moment after the huddle breaks to button his helmet? I sometimes worry he is going to forget. Drives me nuts. Plus, I would rather him concentrate on reading the defense then looking to button his helmet. I am weird. |
Re: Early Vegas Line: Lions favored by 2
I have no real expectations for this game however, I love it when the Skins are the underdogs because they play better. Just give me an entertaining game for a change.
|
Re: Early Vegas Line: Lions favored by 2
Strange but I always think that he is going to forget to snap the chin strap in place also.
|

I agree, style points are for college games not the pros. Win by 1 or 100 it doesnt matter, its a win. |
Re: Early Vegas Line: Lions favored by 2
A lot of QBs don't buckle their chin strip until they step up to the line, or put in a mouth piece if they use one. It's easier to communicate the play in the huddle without those things.
Kinda odd that some fans stress about that. |
