WSH v.s. JAX game analysis
Since GTripp will not be breaking down the game and next, I thought that maybe we all could throw in our 'analysis' and discuss..
Trent Williams played pretty good most of the game, except for that last play before OT. I'm not sure if we can say for other O-line men though, because Torain had few negative plays.. Cooley, he had like 4 drops.. Granted he caught everything in 4th quarter, but come on you must do well every quarter. I'm surprised at our defense, that we held Jax's rushing to under 80 yards. Yes, I know MJD didn't play, but still. Barnes played good, but Macho didn't. We definitely need an upgrade on FS, probably through FA.. At last, Rogers held onto the ball?! |
Re: WSH v.s. JAX game analysis
From what I saw we might, MIGHT, have some young talent to take a look at next year. Barnes did play well as did Buchanon. Bryant played well again at the NT position for a second straight game. I was really really impressed with Rob Jackson. I thought for a converted DL, he played very well at the OLB position. He had a sack and a couple other highlight reel plays. I would like to give him a hard look next year. Maybe there is some hope for some of this young talent.
I mean to go into a road game against an 8-6 teams playing for a playoff spot and shut down their offense like they did with the patchwork defense we had, with no Orakpo, was really good IMO. We had what 4 plays signed off the practice squad this week play or start for us today? Impressive. |
Re: WSH v.s. JAX game analysis
I just wonder about the offense. Why can't they score 30 points when they don't need to? Is it a mental thing? Seems like they only score a lot of points when there's a shootout. Same thing goes when they're in the 2-minute drill like we saw against Tampa Bay. Only when the game is on the line does the offense wake up and play with intensity.
If the other team is struggling offensively, as we saw today, it's practically a given that the Skins will struggle too. |

Grossman didn't look like a starter material in this game.. I really hope we will bring in a good competitor for Grossman.. We gotta love how Torain pounds the defense, it would be nice to have a different style of RB for a change of pace next season.. Lots of passes and very few runs. Then Kyle decides to finally call a few runs when our backs are against the wall. That's when we scored. |

Yep.. I think me and you were on the same page that game SCP. I was saying the whole game I didn't like the playcalling for the 1st 3Q. Don't qoute me, but it seemed like Kyle was trying "to hard" to prove the Rex is the man to run this offense, and in doing that. He actaully made it harder for Rex to get into a rythem, and get the offense into motion. I don't think they are spelling Torain enough either. I understand he wasn't getting enough carries so he didn't want to come out, but when the man is running 22 yards in 2 plays, and it takes him forever to get back to the huddle, and get off the turf. He should let Keliand get in there a few more times. I have confidence in both of those backs now that they;ve had the experience. I wouldn't mind seeing Portis, Torain, Williams in the RB rotation coming into camp. not specifically in that order. |

After all, that Grossman INT for Moss would had a better chance at being a TD if AJohnson was running that route instead of S. Moss |

You should have 4 in a season, not 1 game.I love Cooley, but its time to either trade him or give Davis the starting nod.And back to Kyle,Ive said it before and I'm gonna say it again,it was a mistake to hire him in the first place,Mike's not gonna let his son be the fallguy,it will always be someone elses fault. |

I hate to agree, but I do.. Cooley is the man and my favorite Redskin, but if we can get soem value from him like a 2nd rounder then I wouldn't mind seeing Fred Davis take the role. It's not like we are running the 2 TE's sets that we dreamed of here. I've only seend them in short yardage situations. Paulsen was played well as a blocker, and catcher in the situations he's put in. |
Re: WSH v.s. JAX game analysis
CC isn't going anywhere I think Davis will be gone.. Maybe for a 3rd. I wouldn't mind trading Chris if we can get a 2nd but I don't see that happening.

yeah those dropsies started last year.. it's freaking contagious it seems first we blamed it on JC being too hot on short passes, then this.. then that.. Cooley's gotta catch the damn ball, TEs shouldn't be known for drops love the guy but Davis is probably the better option now |

Re: WSH v.s. JAX game analysis
This is a good team as it is now. Barnes should have been in competition for FS from the jump. Is he better at FS than he is at CB? I like Alexander, Jackson, and Wilson at LB. There appeared to be few (2) break downs on the DL. I was really surprised of that especially considering Golston was out. OL and DL both are probably one starter away from being really good. I said it before, Grossman leaves something to be desired. Maybe his INTs have made me nervous about him. He's patient in the pocket but, lives a little dangerously outside of it, taking forever to decide when to throw it away. A change of pace RB would make a difference. Moss can still play, Armstrong has value but, another starter-caliber WR needs to brought into the mix. Whichever TE has more trade value won't be missed. Paulsen is a legit #2. Not that Rodgers or Buchanon are totally bad, they both have their supreme weaknesses, but, a true cover corner needs to be brought into the mix. Without the Shanahan-shenanigans (McNabb and Haynesworth) this team doesn't seem far away from competing. Keep Kyle and Haslett.

Re: WSH v.s. JAX game analysis
Defensively, in the secondary, there were too many passes completed over the middle. That's on Barnes and Macho Harris. Harris probably won't be here. Barnes likely comes back and gets a chance to prove himself.
There was a nice highlight reel on Philip Buchanon during the game, he had a nice game. |

he has come on during the second half I think because of more playing time. I thought he played pretty average to poor as our nickle corner...I dont think anyone on our D have had a career year, more like a year to forget. This is the worst ive seen our unit in awhile |

Agree, it was a horrible drop but didn't matter in the end. |
Re: WSH v.s. JAX game analysis
Cooley really had a piss poor day, probably his worst as a pro. He'll bounce back though, I'm sure that performance is eating him up.

He looked really pissed every time he would go to the side lines. I think he will be okay. He still gets to go home at the end of the day and bang out his decent looking wife to release his frustrations. lol :food-smil |

Offense:
o playcalling was typical of Kyle all season -no emphasis on the run -what happened to the screen game? -still not using double TEs often/ although it works effectively when used o OL was solid once again even w/ Stephon Heyer at RT o Torrain ran hard overall, shows good vision at times o would have liked to see Armstrong get targeted more often o Cooley had a terrible 1st half but bounced back strong in the second o Rex was Rex Defense o it was nice to see Haslett get aggressive and attack the Jaguars pass protection w/ blitz pressures especially from the ILBs o Kevin Barnes shows his versatility as he gave a decent performance at SS o Macho Harris was okay considering he basically got thrown in there at FS o Rob Jackson played well and makes you wonder why Chris Wilson almost never plays? o Anthony Bryant wow, in 2 games he's made me question what the heck was haslett doing playing Kemo for the previous 14 weeks? Bryant was stout at the point he's a keeper o Carter was solid |

He kept calling play action stuff w/out actually setting it up with the run. |
Re: WSH v.s. JAX game analysis
I was disappointed in Kyle as well, especially in first half; the announcers showed the stats - we threw 22 times and ran only 8 times? What the hell is that? I know we are to evaluate Grossman, but even any QB won't be likely to play good if he's going to throw all the times (excluding Brady and Manning).. Torain showed he could run, we need to feed him the balls.. I just hope Kyle won't be like that next season..
Anthony Bryant, I'm with 30gut on this one.. I'm wondering why he didn't play much until Kemo went on IR.. But then again, coaches see everything in practices and videos that we don't.. As for Rob Jackson, I don't know if he actually did play well as many claimed.. I thought he played decent, nothing big.. I'm glad Barnes is playing well, I'm curious to see how well he will play as nickel back next season.. Also I hope we will resign Rogers and possibly Buchannon for right kind of money.. |
Re: WSH v.s. JAX game analysis
I'm aware that people reflexively look at the stats at the end of the game, see that we threw the ball more than we ran, and automatically assume that if there were more rushing attempts, the score would have been higher. I just don't know if that's a given.
Isn't it at least possible that all of the passing set up the good running game we saw in the second half? |
Re: WSH v.s. JAX game analysis
Isn't it at least possible that all of the passing set up the good running game we saw in the second half?
Yes definitely. My point is Grossman didn't play well and yet Kyle kept calling for pass plays? We would have thought as if it was Redskins who's trialing behind, but really we were the one who's ahead.. And not to mention, we sucked at 3rd down and long, absolutely terrible.. Giving Torain the balls will take care of the problem most of time because Torain would give us 3rd and short. |
Re: WSH v.s. JAX game analysis
Torain had several short 1-2 gains and negative runs too. Overall I thought the Jags were fairly stout against the run and the coaches must have thought attacking through the air would be more effective. We still ended up with 24 rushes so I didn't think the pass/run balance was that bad.
|
Re: WSH v.s. JAX game analysis
Yeah, we probably should run the ball more -- make it more of an even mix. I just don't know if Torain is a 25-30 carry per game type guy. If we're a 60/40 pass to run team, with a fresh RB deep into December, ***and we're winning***, I'm fine with that.
|
Re: WSH v.s. JAX game analysis
Matty, you are right.. Right after game, I immediately checked the stats because I felt like Torain was given ball like 10-12 times but I saw that he got ball 20 times, which is good balance.. It's just that I believe that by giving Torain more balls would put us in better position to convert 3rd down plays..
Beem, I'm not sure if Torain is a type of back who can carry the rock 30 times or so neither.. But we do have Williams who showed us that he is a capable of running the ball.. |

Look around the league for the good offenses and they all have such a quick tempo to them. The plays come in quickly and they get out of the huddle fast (or they no-huddle). The Qb gets up and switches protection and then snap and the play is over. Do it all over again. When we pick our tempo back up we seem to execute better too. |
