Just amazing. And he has an amazing voice. Ted is a recovered drug/alcohol addict. God Bless America that someone will give him a second chance.... |
Re: Former Homeless Man Ted Williams could be new voice of NFL Films
I needed that!
|
Re: Former Homeless Man Ted Williams could be new voice of NFL Films
I saw this earlier good story
|
Re: Former Homeless Man Ted Williams could be new voice of NFL Films
He may not know a damn thing about football...but I'd rather listen to him than Sam Huff
|
Re: Former Homeless Man Ted Williams could be new voice of NFL Films
This thing sure has gone viral eh? I still haven't clicked on the story yet, yeah I'm a rebel like that
|
Re: Former Homeless Man Ted Williams could be new voice of NFL Films
More proof that anyone can make it in this country. And barring mental or physical disaster, if you haven't made it, it's your own damn fault.

Re: Former Homeless Man Ted Williams could be new voice of NFL Films
Yes... It's easy for anyone that tries to make it in this country. Oh wait, this guy sat on the street, some guy recorded his voice and it became viral, and he got a job.
Good story, but lets not act like this guy is a success story. He got lucky. Best of luck to him, but it's not like he pulled himself up by his bootstraps. |

But that is all history...now he seems to have his head on straight and has a chance to get the rest of his life straight. Good for him. These voice guys never look like what they sound like. |
Re: Former Homeless Man Ted Williams could be new voice of NFL Films
I just watched a video of him last night standing by the road where they interviewed him. That's awesome.

Re: Former Homeless Man Ted Williams could be new voice of NFL Films
that's a great video, he does have a gift.
Also, the owners may have found a new way to cut some labor costs! |

Re: Former Homeless Man Ted Williams could be new voice of NFL Films

Wow, that's awesome about Ted Williams. That guy has an incredible voice, good to hear about him getting a second chance.

Go kick your puppies elsewhere. |

Best of luck to him, but it's not like he pulled himself up by his bootstraps.
This is more of 2nd chance for him, as Ted Williams was trained in radio and journalism since he was 14. Another article told his life story. He went to college, worked in Radio and doing voice overs as a career, but his life was derailed by drug addiction and alcoholism, and he lost his way entirely, becoming homeless when he was about 55 years old. One Article says Ted can't quite remember how long he had been on the streets, but based on events he described from when he was still in radio, the author guessed that he had been homeless about 15 years. Hope he makes the most of his second chance to get back on the air. |

Hey! Sam's a color guy, Ted will be a PA guy - youre just taking a shot at poor Sam for no reason. I think i might be the only one on this site that likes Sam. Also I heard the last minute or 2 of Sunday's game on the ol’ FM and Larry explicitly said that him Sam and Sonny will be back next year. Obviously another year on Sam and Sonny is going to add to their "color" commentating so im pretty excited. This guy does have a sweet voice, glad hes back on his feet. Doesn’t he kind of look like a cross between Obama and Andrew Jackson? |

Whether he deserves it or not... that is one HELL of a voice.

Well, in that case he could be right, there may not be a next year (for the NFL, at least)... |
Re: Former Homeless Man Ted Williams could be new voice of NFL Films
Ted Williams is selling his voice like John Holmes sold his pecker.

Great story. Sincerely happy for the guy.

Re: Former Homeless Man Ted Williams could be new voice of NFL Films
He looks way different now. He got all cleaned up and got a haircut, because he was flying to New York today to do some business meetings and see his mother, which he got very emotional over. He said he hadnt seen his mother in about 15 years, and he said that she was 91 and he wanted her to see him get his second chance. In his own words, he said that his mom was alive when he made it the first time (when he was young), and that she had been praying that she would get to see him get a second chance...just such a good story.
He seems like a wonderful, loving person, he was talking about seeing his family and his children again, and he seemed so happy. Apparantly at the height of his drug/alcohol abuse in 1996, his children and family tried to save him, but he voluntarily chose a life on the streets. I am so glad he gets a 2nd chance to enjoy his life again doing what he loves. Edit: Despite arrest record, Cavaliers offer job to homeless man with golden radio voice - KansasCity.com So it appears he is not the saint that I thought he was. But despite that, the team is thinking with their heart first and is going to go from there. The article also said that he is 53 years old, not 71, as some other articles were saying. |

He has family that tried to get him sober and off the streets. He has been sober for two years but is still on the streets and his family has done nothing. He also has a pretty bug rap sheet which has current arrest. I think its a great story that can have a cool ending but something keeps telling me this story takes a strange twist before its over. |
Re: Former Homeless Man Ted Williams could be new voice of NFL Films
I know its been said in other places but one of my biggest hopes for this guy is that whoever ends up hiring him, be it the Cavs, NFL, MTV, etc, they not only provide him with a salary but with the help and guidance he needs to stay clean and sober. I just worry that such a dramatic rise could easily followed by an equally fast fall if he isn't careful.
Cool story though, I wish him the best. |

There is an article out there, that explains his most recent years. While technically "homeless", he has spent the last two years staying with relatives and friends. Some nights i imagine he spent on the streets, but he was not totally "homeless". He seems to have changed. But i'm like you. I hope that he gets the help he needs to stay clean and sober. He has found God so that will help him tremendously when the urge arises... |
Re: Former Homeless Man Ted Williams could be new voice of NFL Films
He's got 9 kids, hes the Travis Henry of voice overs....
I do wish him well like i wish most people well, but id take the under on 2 years before he slips up |
