Charlie Weiss: NDs new coach.
Wow, I didn't think he'd go to college with NFL teams ready to call!
6 years 12 million dollars. So much for his career =/ http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=1943710 |
2 million a year for a college coach?
|
As an ND fan, I like the hire. The past two weeks have been a disaster for ND. ND needs a ND guy and someone who knows a thing or two about offense and they found it in Weis.
|
anyone think he'll stay with the pats until they finish in the playoffs and/or superbowl?
It is kind of puzzling that he'd take a college gig when he was gonna be one of the top choices for several pro teams this year, but I guess bailing out your alma mater from this PR debacle meant more to him. plus he's already got 2 SB rings and possibly a 3rd on the way. |
Cush:
Saban at LSU purportedly makes $2.5M per year. And lots of college coaches get "perks" that are not part of the contract package from the university; players are the only beneficiaries of boosters' "generosity". |
isnt he obligated to finish out the season
|
Any coach that doesn't have the mental discipline and determination to lose weight the right way is not someone I'd as my head coach.

Weis hasn't had NFL teams banging down his door despite his success as a coordinator. One of the reasons is the restrictive interview policy which keeps assistants from being interviewed easily while they are in the playoffs. One of the reasons that a "used-to-be-hot" coordinator will get hired is they are more easily interviewed after a poor season than a good one. Mularkey, formerly of the Steelers, didn't get any heat from his 5-11 season last year - he was a prospect for the years before. That's why the Bills hired him.
The Patriots shuld be commended for allowing Weis to interview for this position. For their sake, let's hope it doesn't bite them in the ass. |
As a ND fan, I really like the hire considering what htey had to work with. How many guys were gonna turn down that job?? ND was really dragged through the mud, but they defintley derseved it. I thought Firing T.Willingham was a huge mistake and I think it was proven after this "coaching search"

Losing weight isn't an easy thing to do for some people, and for some it has more to do with genetics than determination or discipline. I'm guessing he's probably tried to lose weight the traditional way and turned to this surgery as a last resort. |
Well, I think that there's a stigma put on overweight coaches in the NFL, you don't see many of them. Holmgren is the only one I can think of. A lot of people said Marylands coach, Ralph Reagent (sp?) would be in the NFL right now if he "looked like a coach"
|
Andy Reid is doing ok for a big guy

I'm sure he tried the conventional way for a long time and it just wasn't working I'm not sure why it's that big a deal how much he weighs. As I understand it, a lot of it has to do with "how can you ask your players to stay in shape if you can't yourself". That's one of the reasons George Allen used to stay fit and run with the team, right? By the way, I think Ralph Friedgen should definitely get a shot as an NFL head coach. |
Here's another big guy who I think deserves a shot as a head coach

Parcells is another guy who's overweight but is a 'ok' coach
Madden back in the day did alright too |
I'm not saying thats the first thing they look at. Madden was in a different era, and Parcells got in when he was young and skinny. You can't fire a guy that's winning because he grew a gut at 60 something!
|
The whole country owes us a debt of gratitude if we keep Reid out of those damn tights.
|
I kinda wanna see it. I don't want to see the TD on us, but who knows, maybe Andy Reid will like it, abandon his coaching career, and be the best damn Peter Pan EVER!

I am also an Irish fan, and have been disappointed in our record the last few years, unfortunately, unless ND lowers it's strict requirements especially academic standards ND will be in the same boat no matter who is the coach....IMHO |
Well this is pathetic: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/news/story?id=1946901
I have no sympathy for him. |
Everyone who decides to have that surgery knows the risks, so unless the doctors really screwed up or he was never informed of the risks, I don't see where he has a case.
|
I once wrote that Andy Reid was so heavy that if you threw a football at him it would go into orbit around his waist... :biggthump

Andy Reid resembles a Walrus more than any human should.
